So I just picked up Matthew Stover's novelization of Revenge of the Sith* on kindle. I have a paper version somewhere but digging through my piles of books is kinda insane.

* I hold the highly unpopular opinion of finding RotS the best of SW movies.

Hmmm, maybe I should catch up on Clone Wars as well...

Flist!

Flist!

Why did none of you inform me of Blue Harvest, a 48-minute long Family Guy spoof on Star Wars?.

I am getting this tonight.

Also, must restart my rewatch of Farscape. It's just I am right before the second part of IP two-parter and don't want to cry like a five year old.

I am watching Empire Strikes Back, which I haven't seen in years and years and years, and I've forgotten how incredibly awesome and OTPish Han/Leia are. *mad squee* Yup, I just got to the kissing bit and the whole 'you like me because I am a scoundrel' thing. SQUEE.

It's funny, with the Original Trilogy, because the effects and hair styles are rather dated, acting is still not the best seen ever, and I know the story backwards, and yet somehow...it all still miraculously works together into something of an almost ur-story. It's still grabbing me and holding on like mad.

And because I still think Revenge of the Sith is the best of SW movies (don't care whether it's blasphemy or not, but I think it's the only one that is really...art), and because I love the doomedness of Padme and Anakin and the whole Wagenrian opera feel and the darkness and tragedy of it all, here is a vid about ROTS:

1. When I walked into the office today, there was a dozen mutli-colored roses in a vase on my desk. Mr. Mousie has ordered them 'just because' because he told me on last Valentine's Day he'd pick four random days of the year to get me flowers. I am still giddy.

2. I have finished Tatta Hitotsu No Koi and there was weeping and squee. There will be long meta too, but later because I really need to collect myself.

3. Times I have rewatched Makino and Domyouji reunion in New York City scene? Eight so far. Times I've watched it today? Once. It's what I do before I leave for the day. Yeah, I need help. I turn it off as soon as they open their mouths though because, to quote [livejournal.com profile] alexandral, 'my poor heart.'

4. Green Rose continues to be amazing and I will meta on it shortly, but for now (in the middle of ep 5), I will just take time to note that Jung-Hyun might be falsely accused, on the run from prison, utterly broke, with a dead mother and never being able to be with the woman he loves, but throughout it all, he manages to maintain amazing skin. Those prison moisturizers must be awesome. Yeah, let's look at the positives.

5. I keep impatiently waiting for Friday for a new Hana Yori Dango episode. Seriously, counting the days. Just the thought of there being more, soon, and Fridays, feels me with glee. Haven't been like that since early Veronica Mars. Even though it will be hardsubbed so I'll have to re dl, I definitely plan to get raws.

6. I am reading Valentine by George Sand, and it's a fun book, but I must say I am amused at the whole 'ooooh, Grandma is too vulgar, Valentine is delicate with womanly modesty and not wanting to cheat on her husband with her OTP' considering Sand's personal life. I guess it's a case of 'do as I say, not as I do.' I think I prefer Musset's Child of the Century, though I remember the protagonist being overly-emo.

7. I am watching The Painted Veil later in the week. Edward Norton! SQUEE!

8. This awesome Star Wars cartoon still makes me smile )

9. Because I can. Ponies )

10. Nothing. Why should ten be a special number? Abolish the tyranny of the decimal system!

Ohhh, It’s been so long since I’ve done one of these.

And I am grumpy, so this is extra fun.

Badfic summaries from FF.net (disclaimer: I am only going by the summaries. For all I know, the stories migth be amazing. But then again…seeing it’s FF.net). I am not even going to bother mocking. They speak for themselves.

HARRY POTTER (aka the fandom that keeps on giving)

OK, this is not a summary, but an intro paragraph. I’d snark, but my jaw is still open:

Fleur knew… she just didn’t care. It was her wedding night and she wanted to enjoy it with her friends, not her husband. He had long gone from their reception, on their honeymoon which she was pretending to be on right now. Her features covered by a glamour so no one could tell who she was. She didn’t mind her husband was gay and had gone off with his boyfriend; she had only married him to escape an arranged marriage. They were friends and he had told her he would help her as long as he didn’t have to give up the one he really loved. She had agreed, she’d always known about Bill’s lover.

Btw, his lover? Harry. Whyyyyyy? Is it the new chic pairing, Harry/Bill? Why? Whyyyyyyyy? *yells ricochet off walls*

More pain )

STAR WARS a.k.a. Hasn't Anakin suffered enough?

Christa Xha wanted nothing more in the Universe than ObiWan Kenobi's love. WILL HER HAPPINESS BE SHORT LIVED? AND WILL OBI WAN STAY WITH THE ORDER? WARNING: Mature Sensuality in chapters 8, and 33. Han Solo is born. Anakin n Padme are in love.

How mature can it be? You sound fourteen. Also, 33 chapters? 33????? I weep for humanity. And so does Han Solo, who is apparently a Mary Sue offspring.

Natalie, a fifteenyearold Earth girl, finds out she is a jedi. She is, basically, living her Earth life. She has to cope with boys, school work, peer pressure, and even Count Dooku! Has most of the characters plus a few of my own!

Well, at least her name doesn’t have twelve syllables. But I bet she has amethyst eyes.

Faster, pussycat. Kill, kill! )

Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] danceswithwords, this is a great article on the Star Wars fandom that made me ROFL.

The Complex and Terrifying Reality of Star Wars Fandom )

Also, Veronica Mars got three more eps which is sort of odd for the supposed arc, unless they will wrap up the second arc by ep 16 (which they might). I find myself not caring because the show has lost me this season, unfortunately.

All of a sudden, I have a mad urge to rewatch Revenge of the Sith and bits from Attack of the Clones. Shall I give in to it?

Oh yes I shall.

RotS is actually one of my all time favorite movies and the only one of SW ones that goes on that list (I've enjoyed the rest, with the possible exception of TPM, but it's not the same). It's also, even if you don't like scifi, or think Star Wars is overrated, or get hives at the word "Jedi" a really genuinely good one. And it's also one of the rare movies that has the courage to be bleak. Not in the falsely "we are all sad and grubby but life-affirming" kind of way that some movies that generally come out around the Fall season are, but in a Greek tragedy sense: you are watching a flawed but good protagonist brought down by his flaws. And as a nifty extra, a whole civilization crumbles.

Actually, even the fact that PT is made now when flashier tech is available than OT, which was made thirty ears later even though it's set in the future, is in keeping with everything. The glorious golden world of PT is gone, wiped out, never to be rebuilt again, no matter what will come after.

Whatever you may think of Anakin in the first two movies (I like him fine but I know MMV), in the third, he comes across as this incredibly larger than life character, in a way neither Han nor Luke were. Not that they weren't great characters in their own right, but Luke is a beginner, learning as he goes, and for most of the OT, he is just developing. And Han is awesome and all, but he is a grubby, cynical, street-smart type of hero. Not like Anakin, with that awesome power, and complete mess inside his head, a perfect golden knight gone horrifically wrong under pressures not of his making.

The thing is, RotS is so grim and yet I love it. Maybe because it really makes me feel. That scene of Anakin on his knees to Palpatine, grovelling, is sort of encapsulation in miniature of everything I love about RotS: it's painful and you cringe for him and you want to look away, but you can't and you are mesmerized and you must keep watching.

I was too old when I first saw the OT to really get emotionally invested. I enjoyed it, cheered the heroes etc etc. But I never got that breathless lump in throat, this denial that there is other reality outside, this being caught in the hyperreality of the movie world. (I've enjoyed Attack of the Clones, but once again, it was enjoyment, not obsessive giddiness). And of course I knew how it ended, too. But with RotS, it's precisely knowing how it ends, that gives the movie its power. It's interesting how Lucas made the fact that everyone knows the ending (the boat sinks! Romeo and Juliet kill themselves! Darth Vader is Luke's father Anakin!) actually make the movie, as opposed to have people lose interest because you know the ending, duh. And RotS is the one where I did get caught up in the hyper-reality. I remember walking outside the theater that first night and needing to take a breath because I'd forgotten about the real world for a moment.

It's weird, because with PT, I realized by favorite character in SW is Darth Vader and that's a rather startling change in perspective. But now I can never watch OT and see Vader stride around all evil and people-choking without feeling horribly sorry for Anakin trapped inside while still appalled at his actions of course.
