First LOCH2008, now this :)

Seriouly, who wrote this, and how come he resides in my id? Because there just might have been shrieking in my house when Creepy Creepster, after kidnapping Lady Doctor, bullied her parents into agreeing to "challenge for a bride" thing - i.e. he is going to issue a challenge for her hand and if he beats whoever comes/nobody shows up, he gets to marry her. He's also been taking major drugs to get stronger (hope you die of an overdose, jerk!) and boasting how he is going to beat Four to a pulp if he shows up because Four is still injured (ummm, that's not much of a macho victory then, is it?). I love that she tells Creepy Creepster whether Four loves her or not is immaterial. (a) She still loves him and (b) even if Four never existed, she is never going to marry Creepy Creepster ever. Go go go with your common sense, Lady Doc!

Anyway, and then the day of the challenge arrives, and nobody shows up, and Lady Doctor is sitting there, thinking that Four won't come:

And then!!!!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Bonus. I love that Four and Seven are BFFs now (and being Yangs, express that through martial arts practice, LOL). Nobody can resist Seven! Together with Eighth Sister and the rest, he totally turned Four into someone who *gasp* occasionally smiles.

Second bonus, because he's so pretty he makes me flail. Ahahaha, I remember when I started watching Summer Desire as a full-fledged and rabid Huang Xiaoming fangirl (which I still am) and kept going "why why why would anyone pick Peter Ho over HXM? He's not appealing at all! I don't get why people like him." Ah, the irony! Just look at me frothing at the mouth over him now (or by the end of SD actually). I had to eat every last one of my words. Luckily, they tasted delicious.

In case anyone is interested, I plan to watch YWotYC only through Seven getting an OTP and then bail. I know what happens next and have no desire to watch it. In my head, all the brothers are going to live happily with their wives, parents, and Eighth Sister, and occasionally ride off to war and come back victorious. The end.

We are less than a minute into the first episode and we see the hero and the heroine do this:

That's more action than kdramas get all year, all put together.

This is pretty tame compared to enter for youtube goodness from other twdramas )

But still. I've been watching too many kdramas and thus found my eyes get o_O.

Anyway, pervy fun aside, the first ep is adorable. It's cute and funny and shippy. I liked Janine Chang in Black & White and I am a huge fan of Mike He - he's not the world's greatest actor, but he's good-looking, charismatic, and has scorching chemistry with his leading ladies. Fun fun fun.

As of now, I am actively watching 7 dramas - this, 3 Kingdoms, Jade Palace Lock Heart, The Holy Pearl, Endless Love, Young Warriors of the Yang Clan, and New Tales of the Gisaeng. Only one of these is non-Chinese/Taiwanese. It makes me feel like old times - Taiwanese dramas were my gateway drug after all.

No points for guessing they are shippy.

Seriously, how are they so perfectly what I want in OTPs?

Some really really awesome scenes, or why Lu Bu is the only character in this that is decent husband material )

I have guests all Sunday so no more Three Kingdoms for me until Monday which is probably just as well for my sleep patterns and sanity :)

Also, I am now thinking Summer Desire would have been a lot more entertaining if Peter Ho and Huang Xiaoming showed up as Lu Bu and Yang Guo instead of their SD roles and decided the shippy rivalrly by various fighting bouts to the (almost) death once per episode. And Barbie Hsu would actually be playing her Meteor Garden character and periodically kick both their asses when their battles would destroy her furniture too much. It would be the best drama ever.

I am in the middle of ep 10 of Summer Desire and my summer desire to stab Ou Chen in his face continues unabated.

I think we are supposed to find it sweet that he is the one who picked the date, the location, the venue, the bridal gown, and even her jewelry for their wedding but I find it creepy as hell - he did not even consider having her input into any of these. Control freak extraordinaire! Ugh. I think you are looking for a mute submissive, Ou Chen, not a proper wife.

Then there is the fact he keeps asking her "will you regret marrying me?" over and over which is a frelling ridiculous, selfish thing to ask under the circumstances - she is only marrying you to save her brother's life because you frelling blackmailed her - what do you expect - an undying declaration of love? (Nicely, he tells her whether she regrets or not, she is still his bride. Awwwwww. NOT). Just look at him being all hurt when she tells him her acting solicitous is an act - proper for an engaged bride to do and watch him feel all emo when she treats their marriage as a contract. WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPECT, MORON????

Ugh. I hate him. The reason I hate him above all is that feisty, strong Xiao Mo has basically become this beaten-down sleepwalker, wrapped in her desperate misery and he does not care one bit because he's busy being happy over finally getting her. That's some love you got going there, paragon of humanity! Why don't you drown somewhere?

Luo Xi may be deeply deeply flawed and need decades of therapy instead of a girlfriend but he has NEVER coerced Xiamo Mo, never killed all her spirit, never blackmailed her with her brother's life.

Ou Chen is total scum.

Yes, yes, they stuck the scene in there in ep 9 where he sees how miserable she is over her little brother (this is before she accepted his condition of marriage) and tells her he withdraws the condition - she can have the transplant and doesn't have to marry him. But she is so zoned in her own world of misery she basically doesn't hear it and tells him she'll go on with the marriage if he becomes a donor. BUT. It doesn't really make it better - because he knows she does not want him, she knows she didn't really hear him, and his little attack of scruples is over without any effect, he just agrees to her and pushes on. UGH DIE DIE PIG.

ETA: Yes, I realize I am being unfair. He's fucked-up in the head and brought up by wolves, not to mention Xiao Mo herself should have told LX the truth and planned to divorce OC as soon as transplant is complete, if she really didn't want him, and he did try to be unselfish but gave in to temptation. And I know he does learn proper unselfishness later. But whatever. He is currently hurting my Xiao Mo so I want him in a frelling pit. Viikii commenters who view him as an angel and castigate XM for not luuuuuurving the woobie make me even angrier.

ETA2: Heeee, Ou Chen just found out his whole life has been a fake. Yum yum yum. I gotta say the viikii anti-butler comments are hilarious. The Old Guy is pretty insane.

ETA3: OK, I don't hate OC any more and feel pretty sorry for him. Man, people around him should all be in jail for something - I can't think what but doing that to someone is horrid and evil. Also, I keep hoping Butler gets run over by a truck but no luck. Oh how I hate that man.

ETA4: OK, back in OC/XM train, EEE. Yes, am bipolar.

The excellent Stormy Subs have released subs for the first ep of Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku, i.e. Matsujun and Takeuchi Yuko's drama. They always do excellent subs and they are very fast (less than a week) and I am so giddy! The only three dramas I am following this season are this, Bad Guy, and Summer Desire (one each from each country :))

I do mean to check out Coffee House and Gumiho's Revenge in kdramas - loved the first ep of the former and concept of latter is exactly my thing. Plus, I want to check out Comrades (it's supposed to be excellent) and Baker King simply because I want to see why a show about baking rivalry with no-name actors is such a huge hit. I also want to check out that jdrama about wrongly accused lawyer on the run and that Nagase drama (whenever that one comes out).

Full summer!

1. DRAMA/TV SHOW MEME

Day 01 - A drama that should have never been made.

This one is really hard - even the most abysmal drama usually has a few moments of fun and keeps hard-working actors employed. But I am going to go with Vampire Gigolo - a low-budget jdrama about a vampire who solves crimes and his schoolgirl assistant that doesn't even manage to be deliciously campy but is just dull. Alternatively (and I am going to get flack for this) but Liar Game - the characters are paper-thin, the plots idiotic, and the whole thing is useless. And it's two whole seasons of this - two seasons in which Matsuda Shota and Toda Erika, both of whom I adore and who could do much better, wasted their time instead of being in something awesome.

Day 01 - A show that should have never been canceled

Oh, this one is easy. Farscape. It's the best show I've ever seen and they had a promise from scifi through season 5 - so they set up basically a 2 season arc only for scifi to cancel it at the end of s4 for masterpieces like Tremors the Series. Luckily later they got a chance to wrap their story in a miniseries but when I think of how amazing that arc would have been over 22 eps I get a bit crazy. My husband still teases me about the screaming and rampage around our apartment I went on when s4 ended on that insane cliffhanger.

2. I have been slowly continuing with my watch of Easy Fortune Happy Life - am on ep 6. This drama makes me laugh like a maniac and I do believe this is the one should have been titled "Devil Beside You" instead of the Mike He vehicle. Da Feng (played by Lan Chen Long who does funny things to my insides) is a lot more of a devil than the poorly-socilized sweetie of DBY. Da Feng is a few steps away from a sociopath, unsurprisingly with his upbringing. But he is so entertaining and I love how the heroine basically awakens his conscience without trying, just by being her smart/naive, kind/practical combo. Heeeee.

Caps from a shirt that made me laugh like a hyena. Warning for shirtlessness )

3. I made a crack about Summer Desire being my Twilight but I got to thinking - while both drove the girls in their respective countries into a hormonal frenzy, there is a reason why, while I find SD a cheesy/trashy/delightful combo and not great art, it does not bother me the way Twilight does:

a. Neither Luo Xi nor Ou Chen have any desire to make a meal out of Xiamo. Whatever they may or may not do, they don't have any murderous urges around her, unlike Bella's supposed soulmate.

b. Bella is someone who needs to be saved from everything including walking, she spends all her time describing Edward's amazing beauty and lurve is everything to her - when Edward leaves her, she becomes suicidal. She has no purpose or personality outside of worshipping the guy of her dreams. Now take Xiamo - tough as nails survivor - love is second to family and independence, to her. As to suicide over a dude - hah! It's the guys who get suicidal when she leaves them, Xiamo just moves on.

c. Edward being possessive = awesomeness of supreme degree. Everyone should want a guy like that. But in SD, Ou Chen's possessiveness is viewed as a bad and unreasonable thing - and that is what leads to Xiamo dumping him in high school and to her family tragedy. When they hook up again as adults, the author goes out of her way to portray that his possessiveness is way tamped down and under control - that he has changed.

Anyway, SD is no modern masterpiece, but it does not give me heebie-jeebies, hooray.

These aren't Summer Desire spoilers, this is from some photoshoot for a magazine Barbie Hsu and Peter Ho did.

There is more at this link.

Also, new chapter translation is out for anyone who is stalking the translation page obsessively following along. All I have to say about it is: AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. I think utlimately that is why I ship Xiamo with OC by now - it's only around him she gets a very stable, peaceful kind of happiness which is exactly what she needs. All the drama drama drama is not for her. Plus, poor OC, so happy with so little and so afraid to hope. :( Awww, woobie

Btw, in case you haven't figured it out yet, I am not sure exactly how/when it happened but I am now officially Team Ou Chen :)
