This quote from The Defamer just made me die:

Indeed, Superman would seem to be great husband material. With his highly desirable qualities of virtue, truthfulness, and good looks, Lois Lane knows better than to screw up a good thing by asking too many questions when he requests that she wear a bald cap and shout her plans for world domination during their weekly sex date.

Ten Couples that need just "do it." This is inspired by the fact that I've found myself sifting through ff.net (yes, indeed) looking for Sousuke/Kaname stories. Additions? Suggestions?

1. Logan/Veronica, Veronica Mars: Almost two seasons! There are limits to what a girl can stand, especially when the chemistry is as combustible as it is with those two. If slow-dancing together is enough to melt my screen, I can only imagine how hot a real get-together scene would be. Come on, after Dullnut, Veronica deserves a good lover. And wouldn't it be nice for Logan to actually do it with someone he loves and who loves him back for a change?

2. Sousuke/Kaname, Full Metal Panic: OK, a blind mouse can tell that you love each other. A blind, mentally challenged mouse. You love each other, you are available and, oh yeah, you risk your lives on regular basis to save each other. The staring at each other in the rain? The almost kiss in scenic locations? The rescuing, and the jealousy. The waiting up by his door waiting for him to come home (Kaname), or disobeying direct orders to save the other (Sousuke)? Stop teasing me, TPTB! Yes, he is clueless emotionally due to his background, and yes, she doesn't want to take the first step, but take pity on me. Kiss already, at least. Besides, face it. No one else will be able to deal with either Kaname's pushiness or Sousuke's off-the-wallness on a regular basis, so you might as well hook up.

3. Doctor/Rose, Doctor Who: What's a trifling 800+ age difference? And what's a nice bloke of a boyfriend? My newest and shiniest OTP so needs to get it on in the back of the TARDIS, it's not even funny.

4. Lee/Kara, BSG: Oh, my OTP. You came so close. Forget Zack. Forget Baltar. Forget Anders. Forget Dee and the Ho of Doom and the Nameless Girlfriend that Lee left behind to be toasted. From the mini, I thought the two were OTP. And TPTB tease us with looks (eye fucking masters, these two), and the kissing, and the drunken desperate making out. Come on, Lee so clearly wants Kara. And short of being brain-damaged, I see no reason for Kara to prefer Lee Lite (a.k.a. Anders) when she can have the real deal. Let Anders bite the big one (Leoben can sit on him), and Kara and Lee get together.

5. Logan/Max, Dark Angel: Come on. Mutually acknowledged love? Check. Mutually acknowledged hotness? Check. Angst and eye fucking and UST? Check. But where is the seeeeeeeeex? Yes, I know, Max's virus would kill Logan on touch, but come on, full-body condom? Not optimal, but you could get really kinky! Considering how hot it was when he was merely examining her tattoos in latex gloves, the possibilities are endless.

6. Mal/Inara, Firefly: I have such a thing for the two of you. Because honestly, if the UST got any hotter, it would become a health hazard. Eye-fucking is all well and good, and so is the angst, and the unconscious kissing, and the crying after you pushed him in someone else's arms, but I am a greedy, greedy, GREEDY bitch and I want more. Not that I should complain, seeing that I got Simon/Kaylee make-out, but I can't help it. I've fallen for the two of them so hard.

7. Lex/Clark, Smallville: Come on. Sexy woobie gazillionnaire, ogling and befriending a teenage boy? Hot and dumb farmboy exchanging lusty longing looks with said millionaire? On second thoughts, I should take them off the list, because they are so doing it already.

8. Aoshi/Misao, Rurouni Kenshin: I have never seen a man more in need of some sex as a means of de-stressing than Aoshi. And let's face it, killer looks or not, not that many women would want to put up with the full of guilt, driven, serious and issue-laden Aoshi. Plus, Misao loves him and wants him, even though she knows him so well, and that's good enough for me.

9. Fry/Leela, Futurama: Because the poor slob Fry is Everyman. And Leela is Everywoman, if Everywoman was a mutant with one eye, flying a spaceship. Because this is Leela's only chance to make out with a guy a thousand years older than she is. And because Bender could sell the videos. Basically, Futurama rules and I couldn't not mention it.

10. Vash/Meryl, Trigun: Come on, when a Catholic Priest is getting more action with his OTP (and I don't mean Jesus) than you two, it's time to get serious. Vash might be close to immortal, but Meryl isn't. Now that Vash's brother problems have been taken care of (or alternatively, just beginning), it's time to settle down and have some adorable rugrats to boss the Deadliest Man Alive silly. She is into you, you are into her, and face it, you won't find another woman to put up with his baggage or another man to put up with he bossiness.

No doubt, because of the traumatic news of BSG Season 3 being moved to October, I had a dream that I was watching Season Finale tonight. In RL, I put the breaks on my K/L tendencies because of self-preservation. I have no intention of being dragged too deeply into a ship which might never have anything. But clearly, my subconscious is a bigger K/L shipper than my awake self, because the whole dream revolved around Kara telling Lee that she knew he loved her and she loved him but there was no way she was going to get involved with him and get him hurt like she's done with everyone else. And then she flew off to meet Anders. Yeah, my subconscious is also clearly a bad fanfic writer.

In any event, in my dream, I was watching this on Saturday morning, for some reason, and was so excited I was running around the room and being impatient to wake up my sleeping husband (though being a considerate girl even in dreams, I didn't).

Oh, and I also had a Smallville dream (and I haven't even seen any eps since my slashy binge a few months back), where Lex and Clark were patrolling in the farm fields (why? who knows?) and Clark got annoyed with Lex suspecting him of Supermannishness and electrocuted him. As in "RIP Lex." And then caused a fake fire and a whole big set-up so no one would suspect him. It seems, in addition to being a rabit K/Ler, my subconscious doesn't like Clark. Well, on that point, the rest of me is in total agreement.

I have also realized that I haven't seen a Bollywood movie since Rang De Basanti (which was amazing, but was also a month or so back). Ahhh, RDB. Aamir is my least favorite of the "Three Khans" (I will watch anything with Sharukh like the pathetic fangirl that I am. Yes, I say that even after Anjaam. And I'll watch most anything with Salman as long as it's not slapstick.) Aamir? I can take or leave. He won't save a bad movie for me. But when he is in a good movie? Not much can beat it. RDB is added to Dil Chahta Hai, Rangeela and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak as an Aamir movie I adore. But re: no Bollywood flicks. Nothing exciting is coming out though, and I've caught up on my backlog. I tried to get in to see a special showing of Deepa Mehta's Water on Saturday, but when I showed up 40 minutes early, the line was snaking for a mile or so, and they told me I had no chance of getting in. I guess I'll have to wait until it opens wide in April. Because come on? Social issues, women's rights AND a tragic love story? Plus John Abraham? That's a movie designed expressly for me. If you want to read an article/review of Water, go here and here.

Also, I've been slowly working through Rurouni Kenshin, and it's definitely LOVE. It's a steady fun kind of love, as I can't see myself marathonning the whole thing (for one thing, it's over 90 eps long!) but I have so much fun with each episodes. Highlights of recent viewing include Yahiko just hugging Kenshin and sobbing into him (because he was afraid Kenshin was going to be killed and it was his fault) and Kenshin not being mad but just gentle and holding the kid and I realize that Yahiko has found a father figure. Oh, and the bit where everyone was at the hot springs, and Kenshin was absent-mindedly thinking of potential opponent and so he got up and walked over to talk to the girls' side, not realizing that he was giving them more of the view than they wanted (well, except for Kaoru probably :P). And then he realized it...Heeeee. Oh, and everyone ganging up on the bratty kid who wanted Kenshin for an instructor (especially Yahiko, but Sano and Kaoru as well). Yesssss. I also get the vibe that Megumi is being sticky-sweet to Kenshin because she loves annoying Kaoru. So much love.

Saw Memoirs of a Geisha tonight. Not bad not good. Astoundingly mediocre, a Disneyland version of Japan. The characters aren't very well developed and I never really understood or felt for Sayuri. The love story was also a bit bizarre. He gave her candy when she was little? O-kaaaay. Also, the Japanese part in WWII was glossed over. Also, felt much too long. However, it's visually astounding and it was a treat to see Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li sharing a screen. Gong Li in particular is a favorite of mine, not to mention unearthly beautiful.

I lent my Smallville DVDs to [livejournal.com profile] aliterati. She is listening to commentaries and is telling me they are way way waaaay better than the show. Must listen when I get back! Want Lex for personal fictional herem, except convinced he's gay. And taken. Oh well.

I am leaving for a vacation tomorrow, so have a great time everyone! I actually like packing for a trip. So full of possibilities. Taking four books: Michael Chabon's Adventures of Kavalier and Clay a book I read already but love and want to reread; Alexandre Dumas' Le Dame de Monsoreau (in Russian translation), a huge favorite of mine; and two books I've never read: Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint, as recently recommended on friends' list (a fantasy about swordsmen gay lovers) and Louis Cha's The Book and the Sword, something that is labelled as a "martial arts novel" so sounds unusual.

This line is from the best book I've read this year, Rupert Holmes' Where the Truth Lies. Felt like using it.

This is going to be a big grab-bag of a post because I am going away for a vacation and won't be back until the beginning of January. Happy (early) Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, New Year or any other holiday of choice to those who celebrate! If you'll allow me to be sappy for a moment, last year, I knew only two people on my friends' list ([livejournal.com profile] aliterati and [livejournal.com profile] katranna) because I didn't even have an lj. And this year I got to meet all of you really fun, interesting, clever people through lj. Yeah, it's mushy, but reading my friends' list makes me happy way too often to mention. So thank you.

1. You know this period of time when you know that you can't save yourself from falling and the best you can do is try to twist in such a way so your bruise won't be too bad, but you haven't yet hit the ground? Time really does slow down, or more accurately, you become much more aware of each instant. Unfortunately, what you are aware of is frustration and anticipation of pain. Yuck. Yes, for future reference to self, watch out for ice on the sidewalks.

2. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It's out now. Go see it. Go see it even if you have to rob a bank to do it. It's a film noir homage and parody that I fell madly in love with and which is in my Top 5 of the year. It's post-modern and it's old-fashioned. It's intelligent, twisty, funny, witty as hell and surprisingly tender and romantic. Any absence of marketing on this movie is a crime. And no matter how outrageous or clever it gets, you never really feel the shellacked indifference to violence of a Tarantino movie, primarily because of the look in Harry's eyes (Harry is played by Robert Downey Jr who should stay off drugs, please, because I love him.) Oh, and Val Kilmer is the coolest gay private detective ever. The Flick Filosopher [sic] said it better than I can in her review here. Why are you still reading this? Go buy a ticket!

3. I know in Smallville the smooshed term "Clexana" refers to the Clark/Lex/Lana triangle (barf) but every time I see it, I think it refers to menage-a-trois instead, and it suddenly becomes a heck of a lot more interesting, especially since I have a hilarious picture in my head of Lana horrifiedly realizing that the boys are sort of more interested in each other and abandoned her to fend for herself while they get it on...heeee.

Items 4 through 9 here. Containing Superheroes, One Tree Hill, Bollywood, BSG and Star Wars )

I was thinking about Veronica Mars earlier in the day and realized that despite my crankiness, the second season really isn't going badly. My opinion was colored by the fact that we went into hiatus on One Angry Veronica which is hands down my least favorite VM ep ever (unlike as with BSG where "Pegasus" was one heck of an ep).

But so far we've had 10 eps and I've rated them thusly:

Ep blabberings behind the cut )

Also, [livejournal.com profile] aliterati came over yesterday and showed me some Smallville fanvids. They were quite good, but what really caught my attention was the scene that [livejournal.com profile] thelana mentioned with Baby Lex and Baby Clark, which is from S2 so I haven't seen it. When adorable Baby Clark reaches out and strokes passed-out Baby Lex's head I just go awwwwwww and I think my biolgical clock just got jump-started.

Saw Brokeback Mountain yesterday. Since we were in Dupont, this was the most male audience I've ever seen a movie with, including the Matrix.

[livejournal.com profile] aliterati thought it was "overwhelmingly OK" but I liked it more than she did. I thought it was an understated, moving film that isn't my fave movie of the year but defenitely deserves the bunches of awards it's been getting. I especially liked Heath Ledger. Whoa, who knew he could act. When I think of him being in Roar, mind kinda boggles. I was especially interested by the thought that HL's character problem wasn't even that he was gay in a society that couldn't accept that (I think that was JG's character's problem) but that his upbringing and life left him emotionally crippled. There is a reason he barely talks, a reason he is so awkward with tenderness. Small Spoiler ) I got the feeling that he couldn't have had a happy marriage with his wife even if he was ramrod straight, because he didn't know how to open up to anyone but another person who was just like him, another cowboy. The reason Ennis could "work" with Jack was because they both were from very similar environment and worlds.

In other news, I was rereading one of my favorite novels, Frank Yerby's Goat Song, which is a book published in 1960s and is angsty and complicated and great. It's set in Ancient Greece in the time of Socrates. The main character, Ariston, is a Spartan youth (the book starts when he is 17) who after various complicated events ends up suicidal and captured by the Athenians during the endless wars of that century. He is sold into a brothel (for men) but eventually extricates himself and tries to build a life for himself in Athens. This book almost maxes out my angst buttons (there is a good reason he is suicidal and his life doesn't get better from there) but I love Ariston, who is drop-dead-gorgeous but comes to hate physical beauty and view it as a curse (it resulted in him being a sex-slave after all), who really wants to love someone but believes he isn't worthy because he just brings death on all those he loves, and who goes through life believing he doesn't deserve happiness, etc etc. [livejournal.com profile] aliterati, you won't like it, because even though he has bi leanings in the beginning of the novel, his time as a sex slave to men effectively knocks those out of him forever, uderstandably so. I also love the secondary characters, from the real historical persons of Socrates, Alcibiades, Autolucos, Kritias to the various clearly invented ones. I am also sappy enough to adore the love story with Kleothera, and the fact that he eventually finds happiness and respite from his demons. So, good read I highly recommend locating. The funny thing is, after ODing on Smallville when I was rereading GS I was imagining Tom Welling as Ariston, because he has that almost inhuman beauty with a slight girlish tinge and the air of innocence and he looks the right age. True, he can't act at all, but he looks exactly right.

Btw, [livejournal.com profile] aliterati, you were looking for more Clark/Lex stuff, here are three sites that have a lengthy list of recs:
