I mean, ep 11 gives us baths of angst, starring Wu Zun and his marvelous arms:

Argh, evil cousin of Wu Zun's character, I hope you die in a fire. Seriously, wtf, psycho! Dude just manipulated the situation to take away not only the company but even the house and is now gloating in WZ's face for being too trusting - i.e. not thinking his family is a pack of two-faced hyenas. DIE! I mean, the rationale isn't that WZ ran the company badly or treated people awfully - nah, it's just that he trusted his family. WTF.

He was about to propose to Rainie, too, and you ruined it! On plus side, it did result in the above-mentioned bath, so it's not all bad.

In case you need more convincing, two shippy scenes from ep 11 - one funny and one touching )

My current/asap twdrama roster is this, Love Keeps Going, Material Queen, Calling for Love, I Do, KO 3an Guo, The X-Family, That Love Comes, Marry Me, Because of You, Bump Off Lover, Roseate Love, In Time With You, Ring Ring Bell, and Material People (though I suppose the latter is a cdrama). Plus a few others. And I feel like rewatching Wish to See You Again. Good Lord.

I have a craving for a c/twdrama of the "intense melodrama with a happy ending" kind. Luckily I have just the thing on hand - twdrama At Dolphin Bay, starring Angela Zhang, Ambrose Hsu and Wallace Huo.

From the synopsis, it seems as if it's one of those "Taiwan does a kdrama" things - and there are few things I love more. I mean - does this not sound like a kdrama? Our hero and heroine are kids in the orphanage together until the boy gets taken away by his supposed grandfather to inherit a huge fortune. He promises to come back for the girl but by the time he is able to fulfill the promise, the orphanage is long gone. Little does he know that their paths are about to cross again...There is childhood love, family secret, angst in the rain, etc. Ambrose Hsu even has a bit of the Bae Yong Joon vibe going.

Have a MV:

It's 28 eps so I am pretty sure I'll have to ff through some draggy bits but I almost always do it anyway.

Other emo/melo candidates included Lavender (postponed because even though it has everything I love, I believe the girl dies at the end) and Love at the Aegean Sea (because after [livejournal.com profile] ockoala praises I want to see Alec Su in action but I have to dl it while I already have Dolphin on hand). Roseate Love was also a strong candidate but I haven't seen subs outside of viikii and am not biggest streaming fan. I'll get to all of them one of these days though.

I am still dling IRIS and JIN and Next Stop Happiness has only 2 parts of ep 6 subbed (never fear, I watched them) so I decided to check out Hi My Sweetheart.

*shudder*

The horror the horror!

The unfortunate hero of this drama is welcome to be anybody's sweetheart, I suppose, but how he doesn't get dogs set on him in the street is a mystery. His face can stop clocks and give miscarriages to pregnant women. The fact that his personality makes an average dweeb seem cooler than James Dean is not helping either.

I have never, in all my years of drama watching, have seen a leading man so horrifically, appallingly repulsive-looking. I have never seen anything even approaching it. Show Luo, the actor, is an attractive man, and the amount of effort the makers have spent making him look like a fat, greasy, slightly-retarded mushroom is commendable but puzzling.

WHY?

Yes, I know, eventually, under weight of disappointment of being rejected by Rainie Yang, he will turn into a smokin-hot and cool dude but there is no way I, or anyone else I can imagine, would be willing to sit literally through episodes and episodes of disgusting, snail-like gnome to get to that point. Seriously? What the hell were they thinking.

I generally prefer more serious or off-beat twdramas to funny ones because I find the humor completely over-the-top but there have been exceptions through the years. Alas, with a human gargoyle as a male lead, there is no chance this will join the ranks.

I am indifferent to Show Luo one way or another but Rainie, darling, what are you doing in this? Oh well, if this horror is trade-back for the utter perfection of To Get Her, I can deal with this.

To cleanse the palate, TGH mv:

Ahhh, all better.

I do think I want to check out Roseate Love. Angsty shipping and a happy ending. YES.
