Things that make me happy today:

1. Battlestar Galactica season 4 starts this weekend! YES! Can’t wait! It seems like forever. Starbuck, Adama, Roslin, Apollo, Helo, Athena, Six, Anders, Tigh, Leoben, Tyrol etc etc. And…sigh…Baltar. He annoys me a lot, if for no other reason than that I want to forcibly shampoo him, but ahh, well.

I really need to embark on a mad BSG rewatch. Will buy S3 later in the week.

2. Doesn’t Doctor Who start this weekend as well? YES again.

3. As far as I remember, the remaining eps of Moonlight should air sometime this month? I miss my angsty vampires and the spunky reporters who love them! Me want. Now.

4. I don’t even watch Prison Break but I am glad both on principle and because I know it made happy a number of my flisters that spoiler )

5. Romantic Princess continues to be so incredibly cute! And the OTP is so incredibly shippable and squishable. It really does come across as a rather more well-integrated Rui and a Makino. Eee. I am always a push-over for spunky girls and reserved boys who are flabbergasted by them. Spoilers for first couple of eps )

6. I thought I couldn’t be any more excited about the upcoming kdrama Powerful Opponents, about the first lady bodyguard in the Korean version of White House. I was wrong! The guy who is going to be playing the President’s Son (please, PLEASE tell me she is assigned to protect him and that he will be her OTP) is not only the Secondary Guy in Smile Again that I fell madly for and have been scouring the net to see if he was in anything else, but:
a. he is younger than she is!
b. he is supposed to be “egotistic, tough outside but was hurt inside, a typical rebellious character.” LOL. Yes, please.
c. I saw some promo pics and he gets the snot kicked out of him. I approve.
d. Some awesome pics. Pics here )

7. I am finally going to restart the super long (126 eps!) soapy melodrama about hot (currently ex) serf actresses and the angsty aristocrats who love them, a.k.a. Bednaya Nastya. When I stopped, Vladimir was just carted off to be questioned for treason, as poor Anna stared uncomprehendingly at it all (to be fair, she isn't too bright) after her great success singing at the ball and exchanging flaming glances of passion with said Vladimir. Heeee. This never eases up, does it :)

Brief trailer for Battlestar Galactica's season 4 (the last one!!!)

You don't want to know how many times I've seen this.

In other news, Mr. Mousie and I watched The Darjeeling Limited and I loved, loved, loved it to bits. Not just because it's the first movie I've seen where Adrien Brody wasn't horribly tortured, either. (Pianist was one of the best movies I've ever seen and I plan to never rewatch it). It's delicious and delightful and off-kilter. Basically, your usual Wes Anderson flick. If you are a WA fan like me, go watch.

Oh, and I am so glad I am not into Prison Break. It seems like some huge fandom brouhaha brewing. *hides*

I will reply shortly to everyone I owe replies to.

I have been rather LJ neglectful lately, but that is because of good RL things, so I don't feel sorry a bit...

ETA: You know what drives me insane? I bold movie/book/show titles. But am I supposed to bold the apostrophe as well, if it's e.g. "BSG's?"

WARNING: Vague spoilers for latest ep of Prison Break in comments.

You know what I realized? I am so mercenary when it comes to fictional men. It hit me when I was looking at a Michael/Sara pic that [livejournal.com profile] koalathebear posted. I never really got into PB, though it’s likely something I’ll rent one of these days and I know a lot of people on my flist are Michael/Sara shippers. But the thing is, I am looking at that pic and it’s cute and everything but I just don’t see the Michael thing. He’s attractive, smart and angsty, but he is a guy on the run with no career prospects. And I just can’t ship or be invested when a character is like this. I am all like ‘yeah, he is hot and you love him, but you can totally forget him and find someone who is more safe and with a brighter future.’ For them to be viable shipping potentials, I want them to be either really really sane or really really well off. It’s not just the ‘capability’ point (I hate incompetence in characters and I want my fictional men knowing what they are doing, but Michael clearly does). It’s sort of in all shows, books and movies, there is my inner mom/aunt/grandmother going ‘but honey, he isn’t good for you, you can do better.’ And that better is being measured by how socially desirable he is.

Odd.

In other news, I am reading three very different but fun books. One is Daniel Keyes’ Flowers for Algernon which I read years ago and which still has the capacity to make me cry. Such a beautiful, heartbreaking book. (It’s about a man, Charly, who is retarded but undergoes experiments which make him become a genius, only to relapse back. The whole thing is his dairy and wow…). The other is (because [livejournal.com profile] linaerys recommended it on her lj, Vikram Chandra’s Sacred Games which is set in Mumbai and is just fascinating. And then there is a fluffy book by I-forget-her-name called How to Kill a Rockstar which is a good chick read, even though my interest in music is nil.

Also, and completely unconnected, but because [livejournal.com profile] tatterpunk mentioned her love of bikes and it made me think about cars. I love being able to drive. I love the speed, and the fact that it will get me where I want to go much faster (and a lot of places I want to go aren’t public transportation accessible) and the flexibility. But most importantly, I love that I can (I learned to drive relatively late).

First off, a giant WELCOME to everyone who've recently friended me. Don't feel shy about commenting. I love to blab.

Saw Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna for a second time yesterday, with [livejournal.com profile] aliterati. Knowing the story made the viewing experience quite different. I found Rhea and Rishi a lot more at fault and Dev and Maya nicer. Hmmmm.

I just found out that subbed ep 20 of Ouran High School Host Club is out. Yay! I wasn't into 19 as much because Lobelia Girls School=boring, but this one is supposed to be twins' centric, and my twins love is second only to my Tamaki love.

What day of the week is Prison Break on? I really do want to give it a chance.

For those who are interested, subs for ep 5 of Silence (SQUEE!) and ep 9 of Tokyo Juliet (less squee but still squee) are out. I know what I am watching later in the week.

Have any of the dorama fans on my flist seen either Prince Turns Into Frog or Loveaholic? Are either of these worth getting?

Watched more of Devil Beside You. Yeah, DBY is enjoyable mush. YAY. Random observations follow.

But first, I am amused to note that the uni here is the same one used in Mars. Is it the same one used in Meteor Garden and Tokyo Juliet? I am blanking out. If so, do you think I am too old to transfer? Just think of all the drama I'd be able to see around me (not to mention bevies of hot angsty guys with questionable hair). Why didn't I know about that place when I was applying to schools?

Thoughts on eps 4 and 5 of Devil Beside You. Wherein I wax poetic about OTPs )

Oh, and here is my dorama playlist (ones I am planning to watch in the future. I am always looking for more suggestions.

dorama playlist )

Also, since I have apparently abandoned dignity and became a pathetic Rain fangirl, here's a youtube vid that made me kinda crazy to check out Sang-doo, let's go to school (Yes. The school of ANGST).

Vid here )

OK, Prison Break and/or Queer As Folk. Yay or Nay? I am thinking of dling or Netflixing, but don't want to have a Felicity or Dawson's Creek mark 2 where they made my head hurt.

I tried a couple eps of PB and found them too unpleasant. But should I give it another try? This time from the start and in order? You know what I like: angst, some OTP (not Michael/Linc :P), iterativeness. I keep seeing PB posts on my flist, so curious.

As to QaF, something [livejournal.com profile] bigboobedcanuck posted on her LJ got me interested, but is it too soapy? Sort of like Dawson's Creek (eeek) with men? Or is it really good beyond the eye candy? Boysex is not a deterrent for me, but it's not a plus either, so I don't want to watch just for that. It does have other cool stuff, right?

Hey, anyone who is sick of me posting about doramas, look at it this way. It's a chance for me to be obsessed about something else :)

I am reading The Book and the Sword by Louis Cha, which is amusingly labeled as a "martial arts novel." Does this novel wear a lot of black, do strenuous exercises, and can chop bricks in one stroke of its pages? Not sure.

It's quite interesting, actually, though mainly for the 'never read anything like this before' factor. Not great literature though. I am not sure whether it's the fault of the author or the translator but the prose is very simplistic and clanky. Also, it has way too many characters and I find it very hard to keep track of them, despite a helpful index in the beginning. Of course, seeing the rapid rate at which they seem to drop off in sudden and amusing ways, this is becoming less and less of a problem. But despite all this, it's keeping me entertained.

I am also amused by one of the OTPs because all they do is argue and insult each other, even though they are OMG attracted. Of course, since their first meeting consisted of fighting each other, as he was trying to kill her father (a giant misunderstanding as the characters in this book are prone to act first think later. Much later), that's rather understandable. I am not too worried about their future as the helpful character index, which clearly does not believe in suspense, states they marry each other.

Oh, and then there is a character who is madly and angstily in love with a wife of a fellow secret society member. He finally confesses and says that he's always taken long missions for the society so as not to be around her but after all he is closer to her in age than he elderly husband but she is all outraged and tells him older guys are better in the sack he should be ashamed of himself. And then he goes emo and tells her he knows he is all wrong and evil and paraphrases the famous song by admitting "When I think about you I cut myself" and shows her his arm which is full of cut scars. Yes. He cuts himself. When he isn't clobbering bad guys or scheming against the evil government. And when you add in the fact that he fights using a flute, I am forced to admit the man is a fruitcake. Ergo he is my favorite character.

As to the plot, it's much too confusing, but it involves a noble secret society out to overthrow the evil bad Manchu emperor. And there are some Uigurs who want to get their Quaran back. And lots of fighting. And men with flutes who cut themselves. And the leader of the secret society falls tragically in love with the same woman evil Emperor wants. It's delicious.

Also, I caught the last 10 minutes of Prison Break ep last night and I didn't know much of what was going on (I saw eps 5 and 7 and that's about it), but I liiiiiked it. It's like a hit of angst straight to the veins. I think I'll start watching the show now.
