Because we have conversations like this:

Me (out of the blue): Who would win in a fight, the main character from Parade's End or Green Arrow from Arrow?
Mr. Mousie (without missing a beat): The main character from Parade's End. He has a gun. He's also probably killed people. It's a revolver, not an automatic but it still has better range than a bow.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa I love him. Only he would treat a bizarre question pitting a CW superhero against a protagonist of a literary adaptation as utterly normal. And have the literary adaptation person win ;)

Sorry for being relatively MIA for the last few days. What with Baby Mousie's birthday party, family visiting, Valentine's Day, it got a little busy. But now the family went home (boooo, I love having Mr. Mousie's parents around), the party is over (it was a big hit - 9 of her friends came and she had a blast. She's been muttering "Happy Day, Heehee [corruption of her name]" ever since and demanding cake). And V Day is behind us - it was our 11-yr anniversary. We got a babysitter and went to a dinner and a movie. Munchkin was verrrry grumpy at me this morning for 'ditching' her but eventually condescended to forgive me. Oh, and Mr. Mousie gave me an amazon gift card among other things, which I have already partially used to acquire for my kindle a book on the Tang Dynasty as well as a book on the Incas I've been eyeing for months.

Anyway, back to dramas.

1. Dream High

Dream High ep 13 quick thoughts )

2. Jade Palace Lock Heart:

Jade Palace Lock Heart ep 8 )

3. Haven't had time yet to catch up this weekend's eps of New Tales of the Gisaeng but seeing that I am only watching one storyline, it won't take long. I honesntly cannot imagine any circumstances under which Saran will become a gisaeng, but supposedly she will, so I am very curious.

4. Is The Duo done with its childhood scenes yet? I want to check it out but only once adults come on the scene.

5. The first ep of the Inuyasha-type The Holy Pearl is about halfway subbed so I am going to check it out. Apparently they credited Inuyasha so it's all cool :)

ETA: Just finished the first ep and I like. It helps that I always found Gillian Chung immensely likeable on-screen though she isn't much of an actress. It's fun, animeish fantasy - not a serious materpiece or anything, but quite enjoyable. Plus, horned dude is hot.

6. The list of unsubbed cdramas that I really really would love to watch if only subs were out there is as long as my arm, but I am adding another one to it: The Conquest/The Warriors, starring Chen Kun and Sonija Kwok as star-crossed lovers in the Warring Kingdoms period (I think). There's slavery, angst, shippiness and other good things. Have a MV:

7. I've pretty much lost interest in Bu Bu Jing Xin, the upcoming period/timetravel drama with Liu Shishi, because [livejournal.com profile] fishcake gave me some details on the plot and it has some really big dealbreakers for me, but I have to say the design looks gorgeous. Hellochloe posted some new stills on her blog. Go take a look :)

8. Great news! Jiang Hu picked up cdrama Iljimae for subbing! You probably know them from Legend of Condor Heroes 200, HXM's Shanghai Bund etc. They are really really really good! It will probably take them a while to get to it seeing that they are busy subbing the monster Three Kingdoms (which I am dying to watch), but when they do, it will be excellent excellent subs!

If there is a better way to greet New Year than on the beach with champaigne, fireworks, sparklers, and the man you love, I have not discovered it. EEEEE!

Also, I have started Summer Scent, one of the four seasons dramas, starring Song Seung Heon and Son Ye Jin. A sort of Korean take on "Return to Me," SS is a story about Min Woo, an architect (played by SSH) and Hye Won, a florist (played by SYJ). Three years ago, Min Woo's fiancee died and donated her heart to Hye Won who is not aware of the identity of her donor. And now Min Woo and Hye Won's paths cross...

Three episodes in and I am in love, Min Woo's questionable hair notwithstanding. Like all the seasons dramas, SS even more about the mood than the story - this is a rare drama I do not feel tempted to fastforward, even when I have ffed many a drama I loved more. You can feel the heat haze and the summer rain and the lazy contentment of summer - long shots of fields and woods and Hye Won walking in a summer dress, or Min Woo sheltering under a pale umbrella - it makes me feel unhurried and happy, like a long summer day.

Moreover, I really like both protagonists. Hye Won is a very sweet-natured person but she is educated and ladylike and grown-up. She is someone ejoying her life extra-hard because it's only recently she's been able to fully partake on it. And Min Woo is a very good, very well-adjusted guy underneath the trauma. I fell for him when he was so kind to Hye Won when he met her on the hiking trail even if he did not know her and wasn't in love at first sight or whatever. No, here was a person that needed a helping hand. And all his help was done so lightly - not gloomily or imposing obligation. He is clearly a guy with a great potential for fun.

Hye Won and Min Woo's chemistry really clicks, as well.

(I know I owe replies to everyone, I promise to get to them asap).

1. Mr. Mousie's reaction on walking into the room just as I was watching that scene in Next Stop Happiness was laughing at my embarassement and asking "Am I so much a failure as a husband that you need to watch Taiwanese porn?" LOLOLOLOL. He teased me mercilessly over this. Heh. Also, even though he's only watched 2 dramas in his life (Hong Gil Dong and The Grand Family) he has picked enough of my ramblings over the years to guess right away that there will be amnesia. Heh.

But the scene is my favorite lovemaking scene in dramas, even with his teasing, because it all happens after he rescued her yet again and then tries to do the whole 'push her away for her own good' thing he's been doing since he found out he was dying and she is totally not buying and she tells him she is in love with him and tells her he owes her the real reason and he breaks down and tells her he's got only a month to live and he's crying and she leans up and kisses him and takes his hand and puts it to her face (she is totally the agressor here which is so sweet seeing his rep and her utter lack of experience). And dangermousie forgets her commas. And off it goes and they are so desperate and sweet. And then they wake up all clinging to each other...

2. When we were in a bookstore today they had two Mr. Darcy-as-a-vampire books within a foot of each other: Vampire Darcy's Diary and Mr Darcy Vampire. Ugh. UGH. I finally understand the book-burning guys.

1. Am still obsessing over Star Trek. If it wasn't for the baby, I'd so see it repeatedly in the theater. It's such a well-made scifi movie - I am so in love. I am not a hard-core Trekkie by any means, but I used to like the classic Trek a lot when I was younger (never got into any of the other Trek offspring) and this is like everything I liked about old Trek only even cooler.

More comments on Star Trek, spoilery for shipping )

2. Also am still obssessing about The Brothers Bloom. Such a wonderful, off-kilter movie, purposefully anachronistic. Also, sibling love=FTW. Also, it's a delicious souffle.

3. In news of movies I am excited about, Ralph Fiennes is planning to make and star in Coriolanus. I am so excited! And daddy!Kirk has been cast as Thor in an upcoming movie directed by Kenneth Branagh. YES.
