dangermousie: (Anime: Ouran by sinfulintention)
I am sure everyone who's interested has heard by now they are making a live-action version of Ouran High School Host Club. My expectations are not high. I adore the anime and the manga, but jdrama adaptations of manga rarely work for me (Hanadan being a big honking exception, rather than the norm). Twdramas, otoh...

I will definitely check it out though. At least the guy they picked for Tamaki looks Tamaki-ish (also like Angelina Jolie, but that is by the by) Pic here )

I am going to find other cast pics (I was lazy - this was the only one posted on d-addicts). Hopefully they got Haruhi right too.

Oh, and I am not posting much about it because it's not too meta-able, but I am quietly watching Muscle Girl and continuing to enjoy it. It's such a low maintenance, sweet drama. Plus, the OTP is adorable!

And with Mommy issues.

I felt like watching a jdrama, and instead of checking out the acclaimed second season of super-amazing JIN, I decided to go with Muscle Girl.

Dwell on that name.

Yeah.

Hey, I never claimed great taste (and I do plan to binge on JIN2 once all the eps are out and subbed - I loved s1 too well to be able to wait weeks instead of devouring the whole thing at once).

Anyway, MG is about a young woman who has inherited a female pro-wrestling facility from her Dad. It is heavily in debt and about to go bust but it all changes when she meets a young Korean man who seems lost. She has no idea he's a famous pop-star looking for his mother. Coolness ensues. He saves her from loansharks!

Yeah, the budget for this thing was probably $20, and it's not really ground-breaking or anything, but I liked it. LHG plays a normal person (thank God, afer YAB) and speaks Japanese quite well, and he and the leading lady have lovely chemistry.

Plus, both the leads are just well-adjusted nice people determined to 'ganbate' and that makes for a nice change from the usual icy jerk/klutzy nitwit hero-heroine combo often beloved of kdramas. Plus, each ep is a manageable half-an-hour. I'll be following this one. Serenity Fansubs is subbing this one.

Also, I didn't plan to check out either Romance Town (since I am watching Best Love and plan to start on Lie To Me asap, this is romcom overdose) or City Hunter (the story looks like a hot mess) but even though I should know better, LMH looks so smoking in CH previews and stills. Snap out of it, self, it's thinking like this that got you to suffer through Personal Taste! And some stills of RT made me want to check it out - looks so cute.

So yup, both added on the list, Between the two of them, 49 Days, Gisaeng, Can You Hear My Heart, Best Love, Lie to Me and Ripley, that's 8 (!!!!!) kdramas to follow at once. Which is sort of insane even if you don't take into account all the non-kdrama stuff I am watching. I have a job and a baby and need to sleep. I am not sure how this is workable.

1. It just occurred to me that Yoochun's character in Ripley is basically a continuation of his character in that mobile jdrama which is so hard to get ahold of - the whole angsty arrogant rich chaebol thing. Mmmmm. I must admit out of all the upcoming May dramas, I am most excited about Ripley. Lee Da Hae is my favorite kdrama actress, bar none, and Yoochun is so freaking yum. Plus, I love my dark dramas.

2. Despite my misgivings, I tried Drunken to Love You despite my loathing of the name and lack of enthusiasm over the cast. Ummm....no. Just no. I am not one of those people who claims that a drama is bad just because I didn't like it (though sometimes the two do correspond - nobody will convince me Vampire Gigolo is a masterpiece), but while this may not be a bad drama, it is very much not my thing in every possible way.

3. Muscle Girl, the jdrama which stars Lee Hong Ki, apparerently premiered a few days ago. I am pretty interested in checking it out. I couldn't stand LHK's character in You're Beautiful, with his blond hair, endless screams of 'Jolieeeeee' and IQ of lettuce, but I think LHK is a decent actor with a gorgeous singing voice, so I want to see him in something else. I'll get back to you on whether it's any good. It has a typical wacky jdrama premise but hopefully he'll be a little smarter in this one than YAB.

4. Any idea when Yuan Hong's period cdrama Mi Wu Shuang Long supposed to air? I've just seen the trailer and it looks like cdrama Indiana Jones with a lot more angst and cool clothes:

5. Speaking of trailers, teaser for Lie To Me is out. It's cuuuuute. Thanks [livejournal.com profile] ockoala, for the heads-up!

I am more excited for Ripley and Best Love but that is certainly on my list to check out and squee over.
