Yes, still at the beach. I love the dry air and the giant cacti and the winding hilly roads with goats lazily wandering across and a myriad of birds flying overhead. And the brightly painted houses with thick slanting walls, and the blueness of the ocean from the cliff, and the cloudy sunsets.

But this is not why I have an LJ, so here continues my chronicle of watching.

I found a preview for ep 13 of Snow Queen on youtube and OMG! Big plot spoler )

I have also been continuing with my Farscape rewatch. Thoughts on 2.02 Vitas Mortis )

I am also four episodes into Samurai Champloo which continues to be excellent. I confess Mugen freaks me out, with the 'fun' violence, but he is an interesting character (who is certainly having fun) and I like Fuu and adore Jin (who seems to make a habit of rescuing people from brothels? Yeah, yeah, I know I am not supposed to have seen the later ep yet).

I have also finished six episodes of Magicians of Love and it continues to be awesome. I really like that Yasi and Xiao Bei seem to be getting genuinely good friends first, before all the heavy necking or what not. They get to know each other and their misconceptions fly away. I love that Xiao Bei admits that she now prefers him to his 'brother,' after getting to know him, and actually defends him to his grandmother. I really can't wait until poor Yasi's house of cards will fall down and grandma and Xiao Bei will find out there is no Yayun, as he and Mother died a couple of years back. Ouch. Well, Yasi is clearly falling apart as a result of doing such an odd charade, so it's probably for the best (the look on his face as XB unwittingly hits on it by saying he can pretend to be his twin with a different demeanor and clothes). And I love it when he ruffles her hair. Eeeeee! And he finally decided to give up on his awful ex (who ditched him for 3 years!) not knowing she just came back. And XB basically summed him up to his face, as someone nice who builds walls in order to keep from being hurt (a sheep in wolf's clothing) and they had fun and now Richie likes her too and she thinks she likes Richie, who is liked by Kelan (who should stop with the cooking) which has Fernando pissed off and eeeeee....getting good!

And in conclusion, youtube is your friend. Why? I have been a bad girl, watching Hana Kimi RAWs. And I bring you my fave scene so far, Quan rescing Rui Xi from annoying guy's attempted rape and her being all feverishand unconscious and there being kissing. (Trust me to pick the angsty scene in a near angst-free manga).

Yup, still in tropical paradise. Had a bizarre dream in which the Winchester brothers ended up on Moya, which is probably a hint I should watch more Farscape but not before bed.

Watched the second ep of Samurai Champloo which was neat and second episode of Hana Kimi which was neater. Spoilers for HK ep 2 )

I have also finished the Takizawa Hideaki jdrama Boku Dake No Madonna though judicious use of ff button. TH was excellent in it (and was angsting most prettily in the shower) but the female lead drove me nuts. That is actually a big chunk of the reason I adore kdramas and twdramas but not jdramas for most part. The female leads. Most times, I fall madly for the female leads in a kdrama (usually before I fall for the hero, actually). And most times, that's true for twdramas too. But in jdramas, with a few exceptions, I want to strangle them, and here was no exception. I totally loathed her and she never changed. Still, worth watching for vague spoilers for BDNM )

Now I am sort of torn. I don't want to watch a jdrama, so I am probably going to finish Magicians of Love. I have a mad yen to rewatch Mars though (both of which dramas I have here). I'd actually rewatch Meteor Garden which I also have here, but HYD 2 is going to start before I finish and I don't want to be confused. Helpful hints?

I still have the bulk of S2 of Farscape to get through, and Samurai Champloo, and I started Nana the anime (very pretty) but I am thinking of doramas as well...

Magicians of Love continues to be amazing. I have to admire it for sheer refusal to adhere to reality. Most dramas take place in real world, however farfetched. This one? Is not hindered by that requirement and thus rocks mightily.

Hairdressing is clearly where it’s at.

Also, OK, it’s official.

Yasi is my newest dorama boyfriend.

Because, OMG.

He is so in love with Xiao Bei and he doesn’t even realize it.

OMG.

I foresee ANGST.

And there was this one scene which just KILLED me.

Spoilery gushy ramblings on eps 4-5, including my reasons for abovementioned crush )

Because Tatta Hitotsu No Koi has finished and I spoiled myself (I was literally clicking ‘refresh’ on several pages that would have mention of the ending on a loop of ‘refresh’ like a psycho) and know how it ends and can binge, I’ve been continuing in my watch (and also because [livejournal.com profile] winterspel and [livejournal.com profile] kitsune714 write the best meta). Mind you, I am still on episode 5.

First off, I have to say, this show has really made me fall for Kame. Granted, I still want to force-feed him several large fatty dinners in a row, but OMG. Not only is he pretty, but he can act amazingly well. And is very expressive and subtle. Yay. Does he have any more dramas coming up? And I am definitely watching Sapuri just for him (and also because I saw posters for it when I was in Tokyo, so this will be cool). And I really must get back to Nobuta Wo Produce when I am less tired and can follow things.

Rambly meta, ep 5 centric but with spoilers for the whole thing. )

In other drama news, I’ve been continuing with my watch of Magicians of Love. I am about three and a half eps in, and it continues to be mushy and awesome. And Yasu/Xiao Bei are totally OTP and the best thing about it they don’t realize it yet.

Squeeing rambling on MoL )

I have also been reading, off-and-on, manga Kare First Love. It’s a very shoujo ten volume manga. It’s actually a bit low key despite all the potential melodrama. The geeky unattractive girl who is actually pretty when remade, evil ‘best friend’ and playboy gorgeous guy who is actually a photographer with angsty family? More cliché than cliché, not too much drama, and the proposal at the end is sort of tooth-ache inducing, but I still couldn’t help mainlining it like heroin. Maybe because I am a sucker for fluffy shoujo, or maybe because it’s so darn cute and sweet and pretty.

I have only one thing to say about the beginning of the episode 3 of Magicians of Love: Water. Maze.

Yes.

But the drama I want to glee about now is the currently airing Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu (also known as Hana Kimi, an adaptation of the Japanese manga I adore).

I am only about halfway into the first ep, but I am IN LOVE! It’s delicious and fluffy and adorable and funny and romantic and everything.

It combines so many genres I love: a romance story, a school story, a dorm story, an adorable wacky girl and an AWESOME quiet boy and a cast of wacko supporting characters. It’s perfect.

The plot is simple and at first glance insane. But it works. Rui Xi (Ella), who lives in America, has long admired Quan (Wu Zun), a high jumper. In fact, she admires him so much, even though she has never met him, that she persuaded her family to let her enroll in the same school Quan goes to, in Taiwan. A minor problem. Quan goes to an all boys school. But Rui Xi is nothing if not resourceful. She chops off her hair, binds her slight breasts, and enrolls as a boy.

In fact, she ends up not just sharing the school with Quan. She is assigned to be Quan’s roommate. A pity quiet, reserved, and politely stand-offish Quan is nothing like she’s imagined. And he’s given up high jump.

Oh, and there is Xiu Yi (Jiro Wang, rocking the adorableness!), the sociable, friendly, teasing soccer player who befriends Rui Xi. And Si Nan, the playboy R.A. And Mei Tian, the gay school doctor, who figures out and keeps Rui Xi’s secret. And a whole bunch of other wackos.

Thoughts on why I love it so much. Ep 1 spoilery )

And here are some HK pics.

Bringing you cuteness )

In other dorama news, I am about half an hour into the short (2 ep) Korean drama, Bride from Hanoi (otherwise known as Hanoi Bride). I’ve summed it up and posted pics of it earlier, so no summary all over again, but may I say, it’s adorable?

For one thing, being only two hours long, it doesn’t suffer from the same pacing problems a lot of kdramas suffer from. I am not tempted to tear out my hair at the myriad of slow misunderstandings. This thing is so short, the lead male does not have an annoying ex, for one. Rejoice! For another, Gong-Chan from My Girl is on this! (Yes, I know, the actor’s name is Lee Dong-Wook but he is Gong-Chan to me :P) being a young doctor, falling in love with this Vietnamese girl and then losing her through her annoying half-sister, and now has to see her engaged to his brother. YES.

I forgot to mention, Magicians of Love went from owning me to owning me.

Why?

Are YOU kidding?

Not only do we find out that Richie was 'given' to a Mafia lord as a child as payment for some debts by his real father and is now in a quasi-parental relationship with the Mob guy, but he left because Mob Guy was about to marry some young pretty thing Richie's age (she was given to him as a payment too) and there was inadvertent kissing when she was in her wedding dress and 'Dad' walked in and ooooooh.

BUT

BUT.

Yasu is currently channeling Chen Ling of Mars, my favorite dorama hero ever!

He is currently pretending to be his dead beloved twin brother to his grandmother so his grandma won't find out his Mom and brother died in a car accident two years ago! And the angst! Because OMG he misses his brother! And he has to pretend to be him and listen to how nice he (brother) is, unlike Yasu, and to have to tell Grandmother that Mom is fine. And you can tell he so wants to believe that.

EEEEEE!

And apparently Yasu's Dad is a real bastard and mere two years after marriage he got himself another woman and Mom went running, taking the two kids with her.

But now Yasu is clearly working for the Dad.

Awwwww.

And he has such a little boy lost face.

He clearly needs Xiao Bei to make him all better.

AWWW.

And Xiao Bei is falling for Richie a little.

This is awesome.

And OMG! Yasu has to step outside from his Grandma's because he can't bear it any more and is looking at the mirror and crying and remembering seeing his brother dead and he is totally looking lost and steeling himself to go back in and EEEEEE!

OK, it's official. I am a Yasu fnagirl. He is kinda what Sheng would have been like if Ling/Sheng situation in Mars was reversed and Sheng wasn't you know...evil psycho piece of work but what everyone thought he was.

Eeee! Late showing of Battlestar in five hours! Maybe I’ll be home by then.

But that isn’t what the post is about.

I’ve just realized that I never discussed the plot of Magicians of Love. Yeah, the pictures are sparkly (or sporkly, as the case may be), but where, will you ask, is the meta?

So here are my thoughts on Episode 1, which is, alas, as far as I got so far.

Heeeee. I am so amused by the notion of hairdressing as both an art and a sacred calling.

Our heroine and our hero first meet because he takes over from a contest she is supposed to be participating in (long story). Why does Yasu and his two friends agree to this? Because the minister of foreign affairs literally tells them “please save our country, three hair-stylists.” HEEEEEE.

How could you not love this?

It would be intolerably silly if the show didn’t know it is intolerably silly and be deliciously, delightfully tongue in cheek.
