Good Lord - I just checked the Russian-language drama comm on my flist and this popped up:

http://community.livejournal.com/dorama_ru/218843.html

(Very very NSFW).

Why a spammer would think a small, mainly female comm for people who like chaste things with Asian people in them would be a great target for porno-swinger stuff with naked Russian girls is beyond me.

FAIL

Seeing that people are worried about LJ going kaput, may I recommend LJArchive as a way to back up your entries? You won't be able to extract them from there to cross-post on GreatestJournal or InsaneJournal, but you will have it all saved in a usable/readable format.

I backed up all my stuff last night and unlike LJBook, which a lot of people swear by, it worked for me. (Also, unlike LJBook, since you download the program files onto your hard-drive, you don't have to worry about it being too busy with too many users to access).

LJBook, I am sure, is great, but for someone like me, who has over 4500 entries, many of them graphics-heavy, and almost 60,000 comments that I want to save, LJBook is not a good option: the journal is too huge for it to save effectively. LJArchive did it with no problems, though, even if it took a while.

Here is the link to the software:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljarchive/

In other news, I have both a GJ and IJ accounts (though I never use them) so if LJ does go bye-bye, I am dangermousie on both.

There supposed to be an LJ strike for March 21, 2008 (a.k.a. this Friday).

Apparently people are pissed off LJ got rid of Basic Accounts (few features, free) accounts for any users who will join from now on, and thus, for prospective users, only either has the option of Plus Accounts (free for you, more features, with ads) or Paid Accounts (you pay, lots of features, no ads).

I guess as a sort of boycott it makes sense as a market measure if you are disgruntled.

Only I am not.

LJ is a business. There is nothing weird or evil in wanting to maximize your profits.

They aren't taking a Basic Account away from anyone who already has it. They are not obligated to provide a service to a user for free, i.e. expend resources on something that brings them indirect benefits (other paid/plus users liking LJ because of reading someone else's basic journal) at best. Offering a choice between either a paid membership or free membership during which you have to look at some ads makes sense to me and is hardly the evil dictatorship apocalypse.

In interests of disclosure, I have a Permanent Account, had a Paid Account for ages before that, and I think most of people whose LJs I read are either Permanent, Paid, or Plus. Though even if it was Basic, they'd be able to keep it, so it makes no difference to my flist at all. And as for prospective future flisters, seriously, is anyone who I am likely to want to friend for their insightful and witty takes on hot guys going to be deferred by switch from Basic to Plus? You've got to be kidding me.

This is a long-winded way to say that, no, I won't be participating in the LJ strike.

Expect blab as usual.

I know some people on my friends list might be interested in this.

The awesome [livejournal.com profile] alexandral and the equally awesome [livejournal.com profile] miss_dian have just started the [livejournal.com profile] bae_yong_joon community, dedicated to, unsurprisingly, Bae Yong Joon (Korean drama/movie actor and a huge Korean Wave star, if you are unfamiliar with the name).

They have also invited me to be a co-mod, probably in a fit of temporary insanity. :P

So, come one, come all! Join us in the shallowest fangirling and the brainiest meta (yours truly guarantees to provide the former), as well as everything in between.

I mean, could you really say no to this?

Yup, I am feeling both chatty and self-absorbed.

So if there is anything you want to ask me, ask away and I promise to answer, fully and truthfully.

It has to be fandom or LJ or something else not personal RL info related.

E.g. ask me 'Who is the TV character who'd be the best one night stand?' and I will answer (Answer: if we are talking about just American TV, Dean Winchester from Supernatural, because he is hot, and he's had to have picked up some skills after all those pick-ups. And if it's a one-night stand, his issues don't matter). Ask me 'what is your address so I can come and mock your huge Bollywood collection?' and I probably won't say.

So, ask away.

More anime. I know, I know (does anyone on my flist except for [livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer even watch GetBackers?)

More GetBackers thoughts )

Btw, does anyone know where I can find GB scanlations? I've only found this but that's only volumes 22 and 23. I really want to know what happens in later volumes (it's up to mid-30s now) because here it's only up to Vol 14. If not scanlations, at least summaries. Please?

I also watched the first episode of Gungrave (by the same people who did my very favorite anime, Trigun). It's gorgeous and grown up and grim. Also, I think I might like Brandon a lot.

Also, this weekend, Mr. Mousie and I watched A Scanner Darkly, a Richard Linklatter film based on a Philip K. Dick novel. It's beyond brilliant and I cannot recommend highly enough.

And last but not least. Anyone know how I get a sitecounter installed and where I get it?

ETA: This morning, I got to the entrance to the metro station I take from home and OMG! First thing I see is a FREAKING HUGE VERONICA MARS POSTER advertising it on Tuesdays on CW, with KB making an adorable face. EEEEEE!
