I have been feeling rather out-of-sorts today, I confess, physically and emotionally. One of those days.

But now I am smiling and relaxed and even a bit giddy.

The reason? Delicious, guilty pleasure, mushy delight that is a Taiwanese anthology drama Say Yes Enterprise, starring basically half my favorite Taiwanese actors: Barbie Hsu, Hebe, Mike He. Lee Wei, Vanness Wu, Blue Lan etc etc.

SYE is 40 episodes, but never fear! It is great for someone like me, with a short attention span, as it tells 7 separate stories, around 4-5 eps per story. Which enables them to cram all the Asian drama cliches into a perfect smorgasbord: you want a rich young executive and a feisty street dancer overcoming the odds (Vanness and Hebe)? You got it! You want an older woman falling in love with her son's classmate (Lee Wei and Mike He are in it)? You got it! You want a story of angsty lost love (then real-life couple Barbie Hsu and Blue Lan, who was so awesome in The Outsiders)? Once again -- yup. Or a story about a guy finding out his first love is now a mobster's whore and trying to save her? Jackpot again. Etc etc.

It's not the kind of drama you need subs for, honest, but someone at d-addicts has started subbing it and has first three eps out.

In order to convince you, here is a kiss scene from story 1, the one about an executive and street dancer. I love my Cinderella tales! I would love for a sexy and a bit angsty young executive to fall madly for me and lift me from life of street poverty. I am lazy that way.

Smoochies FTW! Plus, Vanness/Hebe? Odd combo but works really well.

Hint, they do a lot of kissing!

More kissing )

Mmmm...I have no shame. I cannot wait to watch the Lee Wei one. YUM!

MV for forbidden younger man lurve )

In other news, I am feeling like a gigantic jdrama kick! I got my hands on about a dozen and will sample and see which one I want to watch. My money is on My Boss My Hero: it seems hilarious AND stars Nagase Tomoya. But first, to finish Kouri No Sekai (Ice World). Also, while I am at it: jdramas, take a hint from twdramas and do real kissing, please!

Yeah, I am picspamming, but look at it this way: it's pretty angsty men. And my snarky comments about same.

So here is a big Bull-Fighting picspam from eps 2 and 3.

Fun here )

I honestly think that Bull-Fighting is my Jotei (which I plan to start tonight btw). So totally silly and mockable, but so totally irresistable.

I leave you on the giddily alternashippy note

I have fallen kinda hard for Lee Wei. I haven't gotten into a drama actor this much in a while, since I first went on a binge discovering favorites.

Probably not at least since Dylan Kuo. Though I wish he wasn't so awesome as he is the only reason I am tolerating the horror that is Hebe in Bull-Fighting.

Anyway, here he is with Rainie Yang, performing at some concert. Mmmmm...is there anyone in twdrama who isn't a singer, btw?

*swoooooon*

Btw, if Rainie was cast in BF instead of Hebe, I'd probably like the heroine a lot better. I liked her even in DBY which didn't work for me at all, as a drama. And I adored her in MG and WWL.

Bull-Fighting (apparently this is slang for a basketball match) is sheer, sweet, fiction-crack: like a saner, less zany version of Magicians of Love (the only drama which was too cracky for even me).

One ep in and I love it like Cong Zi, the smoking hot Enforcer, loves his 'Missy,' the mob boss' daughter he is supposed to protect.

I love the secondary mob flunkies, who are not too bright and a little addicted to bizarre clothes, but entertain me a lot. I love the art design for this drama (a very urban look, if it makes sense). I love the bizarre, only-in-a-twdrama combination of slapsticky hilariousness, evil families, love triangles of doom, and also basketball, business conglomerates and the Mob.

I love Mike He's rich/violent/messed-up Ruo He in this one. True, he plays the arrogant bad boy he can do in his sleep by now, but he isn't bratty at all in this one and I am always drawn to the icy alpha types who just need that good (or in this case, Mob heir) girl to warm them up.

Above all though, my heart belongs to Lee Wei's Mob Enforcer, Zi Cong. He is just so awesome I am in a little puddle in a corner. He will go to bat utterly, protecting Hebe's character, standing up to the mob boss father. He will be the one to remember she forgot her inhaler (she is asthmatic) and have it with him. He will be the one to know she isn't feeling well and matter-of-factly give her piggyback rides. And I think I died a little when he was all concerned about her acting out her anger on people who incurred it (because let's face it, if Mike He's character wanted to give her a beatdown, he so could have) and so he told her that when she is mad, she should just spend her anger on him. *dies*

The only thing I don't love, actually, is Hebe's character, Sheng Xue. She is bratty, and spoiled, and kinda childish. It makes sense for her to be so (she is, after all, the daughter of a powerful Mob Lord, with people to do her bidding and no one to mess with her) but it doesn't make her likeable. I am fully in agreement with Ruo He's seeming assessment of her as half-groupie (though not in that way :D), half-kid. If Zi Cong wasn't so good at protecting her from everything, including herself, her father would have already come down on her like a ton of bricks. Girl, get some common sense!

A bit more on heroine type )

And here are some screencaps to prove the awesomeness.

Basketball, piggyback rides, and horrible fashion of doom here )

In conclusion: I like Mike He, I don't mind Hebe and I AM MADLY IN LOVE WITH LEE WEI.

The end.

Why Asian TV should rule the world:

You know, when American TV does a teen drama involving basketball, we get One Tree Hill.

When Asian TV does a teen drama about basketball, we get Bull-fighting. Where the heroine, a basketball junkie and college student IS THE ONLY CHILD OF THE MAFIA LORD AND THE FUTURE 18TH HEREDITARY INHERITOR OF THIS MOB FAMILY.

Yes.

When we have love triangles on said teenybopper basketball drama in the US, we get single dads, college students and what not. This is clearly not good enough for BF. There we get troubled and violent offspring of the owner of a corrupt conglomerate trying to get business done by 'seducing' mob heroine and the heroine's personal body guard, chief Mob enforcer.

In their free time these three compete on violent basketball courts of the city for fun.

How can one not love this?

HOW?

Also, I know this is wrong. But I might love second male lead (aka Mob Enforcer Guy) even more than first male lead (Manipulative Violent One). He is so...[livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore, he is so your type. He is all 'tear place apart to show my love through protecting' about things. And is puzzled by why little kids are scared by him. And she is sort snappy to him sometimes, but she is the only one who cares for him, from childhood. And he says 'Yes, Miss' in response to her comments.

I mean, what is the world coming to! I am almost alternashipping!!!! (And not because I don't like MVO, he is awesome). But OMG. The Enforcer guy is loyal to her from when they were children. And he took a horrific whipping unflinchingly from Heroine's evil dad, to protect her. And there is piggy-back carrying, and her feeding him. And...and...and.

Who is Lee Wei (the guy who plays Enforcer). Because I am smitten...

How can you not ship a little, after this MV:

When he walks after the heroine, both of them paying no attention at all to lower-level goons beating up a fortune-teller because he was being rude to her, I knew it was LOVE.

And to be fair, here is the youtube vid for the troubled woobie/mob girl (I love that ship, it's just Lee Wei/Hebe, are pushing all my kinks and making me wobble). On second thoughts, as I do adore the 'proper' ship, with the whole 'trying to learn to feel something' angle because Main Guy has SO MANY issues and doesn't really know about emotion until it starts happening...to him, ehhh, they can be an OT3.

Meeeeeeep!

Mike He is making another drama, with Hebe (of S.H.E.) and Li Wei:

Called Bull Fighting. Hebe plays a hot gangster girl. Li Wei likes Hebe but in Hebe eyes, there is only Mike.

Do you know, Mike He and Hebe really look almost anime. It’s not the fact that they are good-looking (e.g. Lee Wan or Kame are gorgeous but I don’t think anime), it’s the ‘look.’ I can’t explain it but they do.

A couple of pics of them )

To be aired staring November 18, 2008. YESSSS!
