OK, so is anyone else excited for The Influence, an online movie (huh?) with Lee Byung Hun and Han Chae Young? Description says: Lee Byung-hun will play the character that is able to travel freely through time and space, bring people who are in dilemma into a mysterious space. On the other hand, Han Chae-young is the woman who is willing to live in a huge water tank for 100 years in order to save Lee Byung-hun.

It sounds weird and awesome. LBH is about my favorite Korean actor and while HCY is an uneven actress (she's prettier than she is good - I am of two minds about her starring in the upcoming A Man Called God), she does have a certain gorgeous vibe and good co-star chemistry so she will visually fit.

The few stills look very pretty )

In other news, I am through ep 10 of Invincible Lee Pyung Kang. While I am enjoying this, I can't say it will ever go on a list of favorites (too fluffy, immature heroes are my least favorite type and so is the eternally bickering couple) but it has some really really yummy scenes. Like this one, where Pyung Kang finds On Dal (who in addition to golf trauma apparently has claustrophobia) and he totally crawls into her lap and clings and burrows into her and then kisses her. It's sort of ridiculously hot (pinging both the maternal and the womanly :P). Pity it turns out he was hallucinating it's his ex but we can't have everything. (I want my couples to hook up sooner. Or at least to recognize their feelings sooner. Honestly, how slow are you guys?)

Enjoy. There was open mouth and everything! )

Not related to the kissing but ugh - every time I see stepmonster and her son I get ulcers.

The drama winter season is about to kick into full swing - January is full of goodies. Jdrama Wallflower, about an eccentric extreme goth and four pretty boys she befriends starts this Thursday. I love the source manga so even if I am not sure how well it will be adapted, I plan to check it out. And, of course, kdramas are the ones which preoccupy me, as always. Will It Snow for Christmas will continue it's well-made angst and melodrama this Wednesday. The Reputable Family has clearly become my first addicting drama of 2010 with its period love, rivalries and conspiracies (for once, they do not center on the court but on the merchant class - very refreshing). It has aired its first two episodes this Saturday and Sunday. And a whole slew of new dramas hit this week - both medical period drama Jejoongwon, about the first Western hospital in Korea, and romcom Pick the Stars, about an icy lawyer melted by burdened-by-orphaned siblings heroine, start Monday. My most anticipated of the year, Slave Hunters, starts this Wednesday, replacing my one true drama love IRIS, and hopefully will keep up the amazing KBS streak going. Two more dramas which start Monday are not really my thing - cooking romcom Pasta (I like the cast but find cooking-themed dramas boring) and teen manga adaptation Lord of Study (I am too old for it) but you never know. 2009 has been good to me, drama-wise. Hopefully 2010 will be as well.

I am, however, a bit in-between dramas - except for The Reputable Family and Will It Snow for Christmas, I am not really watching much. Yay for next week! But meanwhile I have checked out 1997 drama Beautiful My Lady - there are no subs but it's addicting and I craved old-fashioned romantic angst. My impressions are as follows:

(1) I like the heroine and (2) I have never seen Lee Byung Hun look that young!

(3) There is amazing kissing and romantic angst:

(4) And angsty bloody hugs:

(5) You know it's an old drama when people smoke on-screen:

And last point of this post, not connected to the others. I am still obsessed with IRIS and I love its cast. Here they are at the award ceremony.

Oh great, this is going to end well.

I am now simply obsessed with watching Beautiful My Lady, a 1997 angsty romantic drama starring Lee Byung Hun and Shim Eun Ha. I hold this MV fully responsible:

Even though it's a classic kdrama, so I know very well how it will end and I object in principle to Lee Byung Hun dying on my screen. Even though I can't get my hands on subs for love or money. Even though I have a backlog a mile long. WTF, self?

And yet I am currently downloading raws like nobody's business.

But I can't help it - it looks so very much my thing. She is a widow who learns to love again when she meets him - an orphan earning his living as a boxer. Despite her family's opposition, they get married and are happy and then (told you, it's a classic kdrama!), tragedy strikes.

Here is a brief clip from the drama:

Am off to torture myself...

I am in-between dramas due to still 'coming down' from my all-consuming obsession with IRIS.

I also needed a Lee Byung Hun fix (IRIS has left me a veritable junkie when it comes to that man). That means I dug out my All In DVDs for a selective rewatch - it's sort of like a happier IRIS in some ways. All In is a drama I really like - for one, it made an absolutely hellish overnight flight to Rome bearable last year. There are some business/gambling parts I don't find that exciting (they are well-done but I am not much into business rivalries or gambling nitty-gritty) but the love story is so awesome it sort of turns my heart into a ginormous pile of mush. Lee Byung Hun plays In Ha, a former convict who gets a job at a casino after his release. His OTP? Su Yeon (played by the gorgeous Song Hye Kyo) - a former nun. Indeed. In Ha had a crush on Su Yeon since they both were high-schoolers - the rough small-time thug fell for the elegant daughter of a movie-theater owner at first sight. It is to avenge Su Yeon that In Ha commits the crime that lands him in jail - he commits a bit of revenge arson, and unexpectedly, some gangsters die in the fire. When In-Ha comes out of prison, something in him has permanently broken, but whatever changes there are, once he meets So Yeon again, it is clear his feelings for her remain the same. The OTP is epic - neither can live without the other yet they are each other's worst luck. But oh, they cannot stay away. LBH is great at portraying really masculine men who, nontheless, are utterly consumed and destroyed by love - the way he looks at SHK makes me want to turn away, it is that intimate. Whenever they are together, it is always a little as if he cannot believe his luck. SHK is gorgeous and warm and fun and looks so in love you just want to drink it in.

And thus we enter into the world of All In - broken yet tough men, strong women (there are three main lady characters who are all awesome - So Yeon is ladylike but remarkably common-sense, strong and resilient, and there are two secondary girls who are awesome - one is a businesswoman with an occasional yen for the secondary guy and another is a tough bar girl who is in love with In Ha, but who, when she realizes In Ha will never love her back - shockingly moves on and gets an OTP of her own. Woohoo!)

Anyway - here are some caps from ep 13, one of the spells of happiness the OTP is allowed in the sturm-and-drang of the story.

Bet they didn't teach that one in the nunnery )

Let's leave them there to enjoy themselves, poor woobies - as In Ha is currently employed as a bit of rough work for a big mobster, clearly their future sailing ain't gonna be smooth.

I just realized that So Yeon's Nun Name is Angela - same as Minam's character's Nun Name in You're Beautiful. LOLOLOL Such a contrast between the two. I have a suspicion Tae Kyung would actually need to buy a guide to birds and bees for Minam if he ever wants to get down to business :)

Instead of doing something super-productive with my rare moment of afternoon free time as Baby Mousie was napping, I watched the IRIS behind-the-scenes special. In unsubtitled Korean. I have never watched a drama special (subbed or not) before. I think at this point, it's official to say that this drama is bucking for my favorite kdrama ever status.

(You know, it kills me how easily Hyun Joon used to smile)

It was a great deal of fun (worth it, if for nothing else, the scene where Lee Byung Hun starts cracking up in the middle of his and Kim Tae Hee's big bed scene).

Even better, it did a recap of the drama thus giving me a slew of gorgeous caps.

In fact, if you think you may want to check out this drama, click behind the cut, for a huge amount of gorgeous non-spoilery caps.

IRIS gorgeousness, guns, and angst here )

Bonus: cast talking and behind the scenes )

In conclusion, what gives with cutting this kiss out, KBS? Huh? I am so buying the official DVDs, however pricy they are.

Wanna see angsty scholar Park Kyu and plucky diver Beo Jin getting their groove on? You're in luck.

Im Joo Hwan and Seo Woo of Tamra the Island made a commercial together and it's completely loltastic.

Bonus 1: The behind-the-scenes IRIS special came out and once again, I have to fight my inner rps demon because - so ridiculously cute!

Bonus 2: I love this shot of Slave Hunters' three leads.

Girl, that would be one hot grimy sandwich :P

To satisfy the black hole left by the end of IRIS and also because of [livejournal.com profile] ambergold's posts, I've embarked on my rewatch of Beautiful Days, otherwise known as "Lee Byung Hun makes Dangermousie hyperventilate yet again."

Guuuuh, BD is such a quintessential perfect melodrama. I love.

This time around, I am even more kindly disposed towards Ugly Brother. After all the man can't help being a fat hideous twerp with the personality of a toad. Nor can he help his unfortunate clothes and whiny voice. He nontheless performs a valuable function - by allowing me to ff through all his scenes, he allows me to save a lot of time - time I can then spend blissfully contemplating Lee Byung Hun be all awesome as the hero. His character is so competent and brusque and kind and grown-up. With trust issues a mile wide. LOVE.

Side note - I am going to LOL forever at the fact that LBH's awesomeness trumps even childhood love - Ugly Brother is the Heroine's childhood love and her inspiration - she's dreamt of meeting him again and, in fact, initially mistakes LBH for him (talk about trading up). When she eventually finds out her mistake she - carries on with LBH basically treating Ugly Brother as a sweet, dim type of primate. Good for her. Whatever else may be going on, it's nice to know she is not blind or mentally damaged.

How come I have no LBH icons? Gimme!
