I've gotten a few questions about good romantic jdramas so I thought this would be the time to make a plug for one of my favorites - Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake. I was obsessed with it and still adore it. He's a famous music star and she's a brash high schooler who thinks nothing of prostituting herself to get money to pay for tickets to his concert. Only, it's a jdrama so she gets HIV from her 'paid date.'

What can I say? His issues have issues and she's dying and stigmatized. They are in love and codependent and awesome and angsty. There is a lot of running and Takeshi Kaneshiro in leather pants and the best kissing I've ever seen in jdramas. It's like the perfect fanfic you never knew you wanted.

Have an unspoilery MV (those are really hard to find):

I love this drama so much. It's full of wall-to-wall swoony romanticism. It made me grin and bawl and swoon. This drama is the reason I can never dislike Asano Taeko, whatever weirdness she does next - because once upon a time, 12 years ago, she wrote KMSD. Here is my second-favorite scene, even if the uploader chopped it somewhat.

My favorite scene is, sadly, not youtube. It's the gloriously insane "I want to prove how much I love you so I want to have unprotected sex with you, my AIDS-suffering beloved." That was beyond insane and yet AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH PERFECT.

Anyway, check it out if you haven't already.

Am currently reading book currently acquired on Kindle about a time-travelling Cherokee and a half-fox demon who (presumably) hook up. Clearly I am using Kindle to create my own customized badfic pond. My God. I have no shame.

Can someone recommend a really swoony jdrama for me to watch after Innocent Love? Something like Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake?

Ahhhh, jdramas. They don't do swoony love stuff often but when they do (Kamisama, Tattakoi, Forbidden Love etc), I go for it like a ton of bricks.

Nothing is as good as a good jdrama, so favorite jdramas are my favorite dramas of all.

I did a Top Jdramas list some time ago, with reasons and vids, but time to update. Why? Well, for one, current dramas number 3-5 weren't even on the list then, because I haven't seen them.

Same rules as earlier apply: it’s all about which are my favorite jdramas? And why? Here is the list of my favorite dozen, with reasons, vids, and pics. Note: no drama that I haven't finished completely is on this list, because who knows how it will turn out. Beautiful Life might end up on the list once I have enough courage to finish it, but am not done yet. Also, I have a 'favorite scene' from each drama, and I described it very briefly, if at all, to make it as unspoilery as possible.

List behind cut, with reasons, caps and vids )

You know how I did a list for my favorite kdramas, here (even if it already has to be revised, seeing that The Legend is my fave kdrama ever, and actually my fave drama, period). Well, this is my Top 10 jdramas list.

Note: no drama that I haven't finished completely is on this list, because who knows how it will turn out. Beautiful Life might end up on the list once I have enough courage to finish it, but am not done yet. Also, I have not yet seen a lot of famous jdramas (Friends, Million Stars, 1 Litre etc), because of a recent kdrama binge, which is about to give way to a jdrama one, so my list might be very different a few months from now ;) Also, I have a 'favorite scene' from each drama, and I described it very briefly, if at all, to make it as unspoilery as possible. Except for the Top 3, the places within Top 10 get reshuffled quite often. A drama I rank number 8 this week might be number four next ;) But the content of Top 10 stays the same.

List behind cut, with reasons, caps and vids )

ETA: Yes, I plan to do the same list for Taiwanese dramas as well. But I need to finish a few twdramas I am currently watching first (Romantic Princess, Corner with Love, My Lucky Star) so as to know whether they should be included.

I am craving Remus/Tonks fic after Deahtly Hallows so started Fernwithy's awesome Shades, set during HBP. Yay. So good.

EEEEEE! Realized that I can do screencaps now and I really want to do screencaps of Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Date, with yummy angsty OTPing Takeshi Kaneshiro. Yes. Coming soon to a LJ near you.

Saw Hairspray last night. It was fluffy, contageously adorable film. I still prefer the 1980s version, but this was neat.

A whole bunch of trailers, but the only ones I remember are The Golden Compass and August Rush.

TGC: yawn. I tried reading the books and gave up, being bored with them, and also annoyed with the bratty main protagonist. Children protagonists rarely work for me. Mr. Mousie snarked that TGC is like the satanist’s version of Narnia and that makes sense, because I find Narnia boring too.

August Rush: it looks totally sappy and unrealistic but I don’t care. My brain has been rotted by kdrama, and I want! This is a story about an 11 year old music prodigy growing up in an orphanage who wants to use this music to find his parents. As many abandoned children do, he believes that his musician parents loved each other and loved him, and…because it is so kdrama, he is right, and the poor adult woobies (Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys-Myers, all angsty and hot) have been searching for each other and/or him ever since. It’s going to be sap-fest, and I’ll love it.

Slightly more detailed summary from IMDB and trailer )

Also, I remembered reading about Tom ‘the loony’ Cruise being banned from filming somewhere in Germany, so I idly looked up what was the movie. And eeeeee! It’s Valkyrie, about some German generals’ unsuccesful plot to kill Hitler. This could be really good. I think TC is a lunatic, but I confess I like his movies.

In Bollywood news. How do you make me watch a movie about a girls’ hockey team when I loathe sports films? That’s how:

Reasons behind cut. SRK as the coach, basically )

And on another ‘SRK makes me faint’ note, here are stills from ‘Suraj Hua Maddam’ song with him and Kajol (got these from a SRK website). *swooooon* Still the sexiest song in Bollywood.

(yup, I prefer clean-shaven, with an OTP)

Multitude of gorgeousness )

Today's 'pimp' post is for Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake (God Give Me More Time), a jdrama starring Takeshi Kaneshiro, number 4 on [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie's favorite jdramas list (and somewhere in the Top 10 overall) (If you want to know jdrama ranking, it'a 1: Pride, 2: Kurosagi, 3: Forbidden Love, 4: Kamisama, 5: Hanadan).

One of the most awesome, melodramatic, unabashedly romantic dramas I've ever seen. And it's a jdrama, not a kdrama, but it has a kdrama's swoony sensibility, against-everything doomed romance and some incredible kissing, the best I've seen in jdramas. Not to mention Takeshi Kaneshiro, probably the most purely beautiful man I've ever seen. The plot involves a 17 year old girl dying from AIDS (which she got as a result of a 'paid date') who crosses paths with a haunted young composer (I think he is in his mid 20s). Incredible angst, love, and sheer fanservice follows (Keigo, the hero, wears black leather pants and white shirts and runs a hell of a lot). And you know I find the ending uplifting.

A couple of awesome MVs which can be trailers )

I did lengthy, incoherent, madly in love posts when I first watched it, if you want a lot of details. Click on the kmsd tag.

Finished Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake at around 2am.

I have also watched ep 3 of Tatta Hitotsu No Koi and my squee cannot be contained.

And speaking of things I can’t wait for. Once I finish Pride (next on my hit list), I think I just might watch Winter Sonata, the very famous Korean dorama which is to kdramas what Meteor Garden is to twdramas: the mother of them all. It’s the usual kdorama story of lost childhood love, amnesia, and very pretty images. It was apparently crazy psycho popular in Japan (saw posters for it all over the place in front of Panchinko Parlors for some reason). Actually, before I saw a single dorama, I posted an article on the WS phenomenon and on the lead in it, Bae Yong-Joon (who was also the lead in the very different Untold Scandal) in this entry. Funny how things turn out.

A couple of WS youtube vids behind the cut )

And another dorama I am anticipating very much is Wallace Huo’s Emerald on the Roof which started airing in September, and has recently been picked up for subbing.

Why? I adore well-made twdrama the best, Wallace Huo is gorgeous, and then there are the plot and stills:
