We are less than a minute into the first episode and we see the hero and the heroine do this:

That's more action than kdramas get all year, all put together.

This is pretty tame compared to enter for youtube goodness from other twdramas )

But still. I've been watching too many kdramas and thus found my eyes get o_O.

Anyway, pervy fun aside, the first ep is adorable. It's cute and funny and shippy. I liked Janine Chang in Black & White and I am a huge fan of Mike He - he's not the world's greatest actor, but he's good-looking, charismatic, and has scorching chemistry with his leading ladies. Fun fun fun.

As of now, I am actively watching 7 dramas - this, 3 Kingdoms, Jade Palace Lock Heart, The Holy Pearl, Endless Love, Young Warriors of the Yang Clan, and New Tales of the Gisaeng. Only one of these is non-Chinese/Taiwanese. It makes me feel like old times - Taiwanese dramas were my gateway drug after all.

Apparently you can watch the infamously cut-out bit of They Kiss Again (all of 40 seconds and not six minutes, thankfully :P) here (courtesy of link by [livejournal.com profile] outof_focus).

You might see things like the little still behind cut.

stillllll )

There are also rumors of English subs being out for first ep so I'd check youtube (I haven't looked myself)

How much do I love Taiwanese television?

Thiiiiiiis much. Yes, I know, I've never been to Taiwan and can only understand about five words in Mandarin. However, how could I resist such LOLz:

(1). As any of my drama-loving friends might know, last night was the airing of the first episode of They Kiss Again (aka ISWAK sequel). The first ep made waves for including a *gasp* bed scene between its lead characters (see icon), a honeymooning couple. Now, this being a Taiwanese drama, chances of anything being shown below the collarbones are about as probable as my hooking up with Vic Zhou. However, cue large uproar on forums prior to the ep airing. Now, the ep has aired and *gasp* the TV channel apparently cut huge chunks of it. I can't see too much complaining as the 'cut' scene (which was adorable btw) was amply long, IMO. I mean, I love the lead couple like a squealy fangirl, but this was supposedly 10 minutes long, and really, talk about stopping dramatic flow dead. 10 minutes of making out above the collarbones would get a bit old.

But apparently, the fandom is in a kerfuffle. There are rumors that the station did it because they are afraid to be sued (let's get real here, people. Much as I am sure there are a lot of people who'd love to see Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin nekkid, I doubt TKA would be the source for that). There are further rumors that a different station will show it uncut.

Best of all, there are various fangirls who make me glee like mad by declaiming that they simply must watch the uncut version because they don't want Joe Cheng's hard work to go to waste. (Joe Cheng, for those unfamiliar, is the male lead in this and is supposedly shirtless in all the cut bits :D) I mean, seriously. That is kind of adorable that they are posing it as an artistic appreciation of hard work and not 'wanna ogle Joe Cheng's cheeeeeeeest plz.' Even more adorable are other fangirls taking these statements seriously. Oh, you poor poor Joe Cheng. Your dedication and actorly craft should not be hidden through snipping bits of your shirtlessness. :)

and

(2) I have just gotten the newly-subbed versions of Bull Fighting (no idea on the name as while there is plenty of fighting there is a dearth of bulls) and trolling for spoilers on AF have come across a sentence which basically crystalized why I love Taiwanese drama. The sentence went something like this: "Oh, and I loved that bit when Mike He was protecting Hebe from whips."

Oh. I am in loooooove.

Seriously. How can it possibly get any better?

Oh yes, yes it can. Apparently he got whipped instead, and that too by Hebe's whip-happy father. This drama seems to be high on evil parents, as Mike He's dad was also smacking him. Heeee. Evil parental whipping. And kidnappings. And forced kissing. In a drama ostensibly centered around basketball.

Thank you, Taiwan.

Watched eps 5 and 6 of Karei Naru Ichizoku and I don't think I can hate Aiko and Daisuke more. But oh Teppei. He is so amazing. He breaks my heart.

Re: ISWAK2.

Ohhhhh...the Zhi Shu/Xiang Qin scene on their honemoon?

HOLD ME SOMEONE.

It joins the scene from Mars and the scene from Tokyo Juliet as the only sexy-sex scenes in twdrama.

Mmmmmmmm...

Of course, it's the sort of thing that in the US they'd show at 2 pm, but...guuuuuh. Zhi Shu stroking Xiang Qin's mouth with hIS thumb, before kissing her, and the thing with touching their noses they do, and he is kissing her neck and collarbones, eeeeeeeeee! Oh, and the bit when they are in bed and he takes off his shirt with one hand because he is not paying the shirt too much attention :)

Mmmm. Plus, it's a hell of a lengthy kissing scene to start with. Yay.

The scene in Mars is still my fave, for the sheer dramatic significance of it, but this was awesome. Did I mention that he has to bend in two to kiss her? Eeee.

Has anyone heard/been watching kdrama In-Soon Is Pretty, starring Kim Hyun Joo, Kim Min Joon, and Lee Wan?

I am rather exctied as not only do I adore Lee Wan, I am giddy to see a male lead (KMJ) who is yummily and clearly in his mid thirties, at least (as opposed to jdramas, where I feel like a borderline cradlerobber, with the actors barely in their early twenties) :P

Plus, the plot sounds awesome. KHJ plays our heroine, In-Soon, who ends up serving a jail term due to accidentally causing a death of a class-mate while she was in high school. Formerly confident, outgoing, and complimented on her striking looks, In-Soon now is shy and unable to interact well. And then her paths cross with KMJ, someone she used to know before everything, who is now a journalist. And it goes from there. WithS2 is subbing. Some pics:

In other news, these three pics of ISWAK 2 make me gleeful. Apparently Ariel is training to be a nurse and can’t do injections at all, so Joe allows her to practice on him (!!!!) If this ain’t love, what is?

Oh, Why Why Love, why are you so awesome and heartbreaking? I am in the middle of ep 13, and Huo Da and Xiao Die’s sweetness made me melt, but his horror at falling down and not knowing why and pretending it’s a joke made me sniffle. And so did Huo Yan with his mother, finally finding in himself a measure of forgiveness, and steadily eating her noodles, weeping into the bowl, as she lies there dead. Happy times are here ahead, clearly. Also, I really think that Huo Da is one of the rare drama heroes whose head is screwed on straight (at least until the life-threatening illness bit). Yay.

Here are some caps:

More caps, from ep 13 )

To cheer self up I bring this adorable ISWAK/ISWAK2 MV:

The icy, incredibly intelligent, and yet completely unfamiliar with emotions Zhi Shu and the loud, spontaneous, not clever, but adorable Xiang Qin are one of my favorite drama OTPs.

In other news, I am excited. IceKunion, which put out a lot of manhwa went bust but it was announced that another company picked up their titles and so I'll be able to finish all my fave manhwas. YES!!!!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

Dylan Kuo and Ady An are making another drama together, Ai Zai Huang Huo Zhen. Ming Dao (of the 183 Club fame) is co-starring.

OMG. Please, please let them end up happily together this time.

For those who don't know, Dylan Kuo and Ady An are Taiwanese stars, and probably my third favorite drama on-screen couple (after fellow Taiwanese stars Vic Zhou and Barbie Hsu, so awesome in Mars, still my favorite drama, and the Japanese stars Yamapi and Horihita Maki).

They were the doomed, star-crossed, complicated lovers in The Outsiders (and The Outsiders 2, which I am so starting ASAP), one of my Top 3 dramas, where he was the tough, yet oddly innocent gang leader, and she a delicate-resilient upper class girl. Read my The Outsiders ramblings for more. They were also in White Robe of love but I am skipping that one, because there is only so much of 'he dies and leaves the to mourn' action I can take.

Seriously.

OMG.

This is based on a manga 'Honey Lavender.' No idea what it's about, but please, please PLEASE make it happy. I have cried as much as I can with The Outsiders, and yelled at the screen, too. Hell, I'll settle for a drama where he doesn¡¯t die, or she tries to slit her wrists, or she is raped, or he is locked in self-loathing because he got her into such an environment, or or or or or...

Here are pics of them from some event/ads. Horrible clothes, but whatever

Oh man, there are RPShippers for Dylan and Ady? (As I found on boards). Why am I not surprised?

ETA: The Ady/Dylan people seem remarkably sane, when compared to the crazy Joe Cheng/Ariel Lin RPShippers I found on the same boards. They sort of scare me. A LOT. People, they are actors. I don't care how awesome ISWAK (or The Outsiders, for Dylan/Ady) were. It doesn't mean they love each other in real life, or would make a perfect pair. Seriously, I almost wish Vic Zhou and Barbie Hsu never hooked up (or Lee Dong Gun and Han Ji Hye, or a handful of other celebrity couples) because it is like fodder for the crazies. Yikes.

This said, I do like Joe and Ariel as an on-screen couple and can't wait for ISWAK2 (which is going to air at the end of November, I think). They are awesome together on screen only.

Oh, man. He is SO MUCH TALLER than she is. *swoon*
