I had little interest in checking out the new M/T drama It's OK, Daddy's Daughter starring Moon Chae Won as a spoiled daddy's daughter who has to grow up after her father is involved in a car accident (how afterschool special!).

But I am all caught up on my dramas and there was no Gloria this week/less MSOAN than usual so I had time and decided "why not?"

I can't say IODD is a travesty against viewers or anything of the sort but I can't remember a last time the first episode left so little impact on me. First episodes are supposed to give you an idea of the direction/vibe of the drama, for good or ill. An excellent drama like Mawang does it, but so does a bad one like Road N1, even if the results are vastly different in each case making you want to watch the first and dump the second. But I don't think I've ever seen a drama, better or worse made than IODD, that gave me so little idea of its vibe/feeling/point. I could describe various events that happened in ep1 but if I had to make a coherent and interesting narrative out of them, I'd be sort of at a loss.

This is not helped by its harem cast. Moon Chae Won is surrounded by a veritable bevy of men, enough for a small SWAT team. They are all played by various idols/actors I am not familiar with which handicaps it even further - I don't recognize any of them/none of them have blazing screen presence of e.g. Jang Hyuk so as to stand out even in the crowd. I still haven't even figured out which one of them is the male lead despite seeing pics of him/character descriptions. The only one I recognized is Jeon Tae Soo, and that is because I crushed on him saw him in SKKS.

Nor does MCW has a strong enough charisma to overcome it all. I mildly like her but I never thought "OMG, someone give this woman a leading role already!" and IODD bears my attitude out. She is fine enough but she is playing neither a challenging nor adorable character, nor is a drama she is in sharply written, so she fades into background with the rest.

Ultimate verdict: if you want 'flighty young woman grows up' as a drama, go watch the awesome Pick the Stars and leave confused IODD where it belongs - unwatched.
