I think my obsession with the upcoming Chu-Han Contention (楚汉传奇) has reached truly pathetic levels - I am trolling Google images for pics while not being able to read any Chinese. Still, I did find these:

ARGH! Is it 2013 or whatever ridiculous year in the future they are going to air this in, yet?

I ship this:

He's in high school. She's 24. (They are 19 and 25, respectively, in Korean years).

I am going to hell, right?

Well, at least Jung Il Woo is 24 in real life so I don't feel like a total failure.

But seriously, can you blame me?

Just a few more - can YOU resist a blue-blood highschooler who looks like this? )

On a complete random whim, I tried Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James (it was a rec of a rec of something else I got on Kindle)

I was looking forward to a fun romance novel.

Ummmm.

Ummmmmmm.

Note to self, read reviews first.

I have a ginormous, innate loathing for dom/sub stuff - it's irrational, but there it is. if someone tried that on me, they'd be missing limbs. The movie Secretary makes me want to scrub my skin off.

Guess what this book is about?

Heroine is a college senior who meets super-rich, super-screwed-up and super-kinky 27-yr-old hero and they embark on the most messed up relationship I've ever had the privilege to read about in a romance novel. Thankfully, though heroine is OK with dom-sub games, when s/m comes in, she ditches. The aaaangst. Also, I think heroine kinda looks like hero's abusive mother which is a whole other level of wrong.

If people are into BDSM or anything else as long as it involves consensual adults, it's their right, but reading about it for entertainment in graphic fashion and being supposed to root for the relationship - Good Lord.

I read this in increasing, horrified fascination, like looking at a trainwreck. I kept wanting to tell the heroine to run run run and I cheered when she dumped the hero at the end, after very sensibly telling him 'look, I don't mind bondage but you are into inflicting major pain and I am not into getting it, so this ain't going to work out, because even if you decided you liked me enough to give your preferences up, it isn't going to last because you'd be suppressing what you need, so find someone compatible.' But we are clearly supposed to think this is OMG!tragic when it is not. And there is a sequel in which they get back together - I flipped and they seem to find some sort of compromise and she is being very "I am going to need to get reassurance from your shrink" sensible, but seriously. Just no. I logically understand that it works for them but I am simply too vanilla for this.

I need to scrub my brain with bleach.

Bleach!

It's well-written BDSM erotica but (1) I was not looking for erotica or (2) BDSM. I wanted something like a modern Pride & Prejudice. Talk about shock.

Yes, I will make a drama post soon. I am taking a little break. Though if this is what I come across during it, maybe I shouldn't.

A comment on youtube to one of the eps of Sawan Biang:

"Gosh people ok yea he raped her four times but the first time was because of revenge second and third she kept making him piss and forth he was jealous calm the fuck down!!!!"

Well, duh, that totally justifies everything and makes it super-fine. Duh.

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!

Hero of Sawan Biang has just raped the heroine. On her birthday! Telling that he's doing it because her sis wants him and now she will be jealous of heroine forever (WTF! I fail to see how anyone will be jealous of being violently raped).

And then in the next few days, he rapes her a few more times.

Did I mention that eventually they live happily ever after?!?!

I take this back, this even sicker than DoL.

THE FUCK THE FUCK THE FUCK WHAT KIND OF SICK PSYCHOS WRITE THIS STUFF!

I want to slowly dismember the hero while staking him out on top of an anthill.

Honestly, wtf is the fixation lakorns have with rape? Is it some sort of 'good girls don't enjoy sex unless forced to' thing or what?

OTOH the rage from this has cleared the misery from BBJX and I can properly watch good stuff now.

Still mainlining Sawan Biang and am on ep 3. Still no rape yet, but I am beginning to think heroine is lucky that is all that is going to happen because hero gives off every indication, with his violence and sociopathy and lack of control (who behaves the way he did at his father's wedding?) of a future killer. Honestly, if I were a friend, I'd tell heroine to get the hell out before he gruesomely murders her and everyone else in the house, then keeps a body part as a trophy, and dies in a stand-off with police.

Also, while that doesn't diminish his responsibility in being what he is one bit, his father should be smacked into doomsday. First for warping him into what he is by never showing him any affection despite the kid begging and second by being a model by treating women like things - his wife died in a car crash and he is wooing the next one within days! WTF. Also, put a leash on your kid, old dude! He's not five any more - you should give him an ultimatum to behave and if he does not, kick him out of the house. Honestly! Also, don't give your kid's dead mother's necklace to your newest wife in front of him and also allow your new wife to remove all his mother's stuff out of the house. Bad taste.

Also, three eps in, I finally found a person hero doesn't treat like dirt. Shockingly, it's his ex-girlfriend. He's *gasp* civil and even friendly. I don't know what magic powers the woman has.

Also, hero is currently being semi-friendly (for him) to heroine - it's pretty disturbing because it seems so out of character for him to be nice to anyone! He is totally liking the heroine even now which makes me wonder why on earth he is going to rape her. That is not the way to someone's heart!

Last point - most dysfunctional love quadrangle ever. Let me get this straight:

Stepmom likes Hero who likes Stepaunt who is liked by hero's previous Stepuncle. This makes my head hurt.

I don't get why stepmom digs him because he hates her and is awfully emotionally and verbally abusive to her. Is she a masochist? I get why she's making his life hell in return, but I wish she'd stop the one-upsmanship game because it's making everything worse. Why stoop to his level?

The only explanation is that the angst of Bu Bu Jing Xin fried my brain because I am not watching any of my drama backlog, but instead watching Sawan Biang, the infamous Thai lakorn starring Ken and Anne. I can't claim I have no idea what I am getting into - not only do I know the plot, ages ago, I watched the last third of it.

Well, now I am watching it from the start, because I am insane. This drama is exceptional in that it has the worst, most psychotic hero in anything I've ever seen by about 10 orders of magnitude. When I just watched the last third, I didn't get the full brunt because it was after he reformed and was being super-nice to heroine. I mean, I still was going 'stab him on principle' because the reason he was so sweet was because he fell in love with her and thus was awfully sorry for mistreating and raping (!!!!!) her but at least he wasn't doing anything horrible in the episodes themselves.

Not so here. I cannot think of a single redeeming or even neutral characteristic for this man in the entirety of the first episode (unless shocking good looks count). Ummmmm, he hasn't raped anyone yet? (1) When a girl confesses to him she likes him, he tells her she's hideous and he loathes her. (2) When his stepmom decorates a place for his birthday, he tells her it's hideous and if she wants to lick his Dad's shoes, not to do it at his expense. (3) When stepmom gets killed in a car crash, he goes ahead with the birthday party because what does the death have to do with him? He wants to party. (4) He tells stepmom's bro that he is so happy the woman is dead and it's karma. I have to say, so far the main impetus for my watching is a horrified fascination to see what awful thing he is going to do or say next.

Can you say, dream lover?

The only person to tell him to fuck off is the heroine.

And clearly, the psychoness runs in the family as the main reason hero is like that is due to his father, who changes wives like gloves (way to teach him to respect women, old dude!), couldn't care less if his son keeled over and never did even when hero was a kid, and tells him things like "I am your Dad but even I can't love you."

Ummmmm yeah. I want to take the heroine far away from this nest of maniacs and get the male lead therapy. In a maximum security jail.

Oddly, I don't have the same 'made by lunatics' problem with this drama as I did with Defendant of Love, mainly because Kawee is portrayed as out-of-control violent trainwreck not a supposedly normal person who just thinks it's OK to kidnap, torture and rape people (like the hero of DoL, who we were supposed to think is a solid citizen). I mean, I think hero should be nibbled to death by snails, but the drama agrees with me, so it helps. The whole 'and then he redeems himself and goes through hell to get her to like him again' is problematic because I can't see how she get over the raping, but at least SB acknowledges that the woman is going to hate your guts after this and it's something you should redeem yourself for, unlike DoL where heroine's reaction pretty much was 'yeah, you tortured and raped me, but you thought I was someone else and you say sorry and are hot. Luuuurve' and the drama didn't seem to think anything more than 'ooops sorry' was needed.

I make no excuses for watching this trainwreck. But I can't stop, even as I have to muffle my screams of rage so as not to wake Mr. Mousie. I just think I am not ready to be emotionally committed to another drama, after the devastation of BBJX, so this is how I decompress.

Have a non-rapey MV, mainly to show that Ken and Anne are very pretty together (though I rec Oum Ruk for their stuff, as there is no raping, and his character is an utter sweetheart).
