Haven't had a chance to watch anything due to lack of subs but I have realized I need to stay out of every Faith v. Arang discussion on the internet. Mainly because even though I enjoy Arang, I am obsessed with Faith so every time I see 'Faith sucks, Arang is amazing' post or variation thereof, I get irrationally annoyed at Arang and I do want to be able to enjoy the latter - the way it's going, I am going to end up loathing it just on principle and that is not the way to go.

I wish fandom would stop comparing the two - they air on different days so are no competition for ratings and, other than being a fantasy period drama, have little to nothing in common.

It's reminding me of the bad old days of when IRIS and You're Beautiful aired (at least they were at the same slot and in competition for ratings) and the fandom seemed to have split into YAB and IRIS camps, with the former being the much more loud one and piling on IRIS like it was going out of style. I was a big fan of IRIS and all this made me go from being OK with YAB (though it would have never been a huge thing for me) to just reflexively loathing it and everything and everyone associated with it down to the last fiber of my being. All due to fandom stuff and nothing to do with the drama itself (I rewatched it years later and while I can't say I loved it, it was a cute little trifle without the fandom baggage).

So, note to self - stay awaaaaay from comparison discussions! It's like Bangel v. Spuffy - bound to never end well.

1. I am clearing some of my drama backlog, which means I am back to Me Too, Flower, a drama I enjoyed when I watched until I got sidetracked. Just finished ep 11 and I've remembered how on-key, lovely it is when it deals with its damaged yet hopeful protagonists and their dealings with the world and each other. I've rarely seen a drama couple that fits each other and needs each other so well because of their damage. (It's like a much lighter version of Bali). And yet, I pretty much am bored with everything else in this - the business storyline, Bong Sun's sister, the shrink, the annoying Hwa Young, who seems to have borrowed crazy secondary girl's playbook from circa 2002 (I love hating a good secondary like 'let me frame your husband for rape so you'll be forced to leave him in exchange for his freedom' dude in DGCH, but HY isn't even that fun to hate and I really wish someone less cool and less of a Mousie favorite than Han Go Eun played her).

2. Not watching Dream High 2 (though will likely do a selective watch once its over) but the soompi thread is ridiculously entertaining - combo of idol actors and the fact that even as of ep 13 the OTPs are not set in stone , the flamebait is strong.

Though it looks like JB and Hyesang will be the OTP - seeing that they start out as idol and his fangirl, that's pretty much THE fangirl fantasy there. I am enough of a shoujo fan (and a fan of silly poppy bubblegum) to turn in for that (or once I am sure which OTP is the endgame. I am not big on guessing wrong). This MV does a very good job of selling them:

Oh, and this confession is ridiculously cheesy and oddly cute and the acting makes me giggle. I am sold (turn on cc for subs).

Also, apparently the synospis for ep 14 includes the following: While giving chase to [Hyesung], JB was knocked down by a fast moving truck on the road because he was trying to save a little boy who was retrieving his ball. Bwahahahahahahaha! I must watch this gem. A Choi Ji Woo melo circa 2002 called and wants its plot back :P

T-2, ladies! If it wasn't for work, I would definitely livestream because I have completely lost my mind over this drama.

Apparently, Dany/Drogo is a huge ship in the Game of Thrones show fandom.

Huh? Huh???? On one level I can understand it - both Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke are gorgeous, have chemistry and finding canon ships is kinda thin on the ground in GoT - so I can see latching onto a canon ship with chemistry and hot people. A lot of stuff is even something I'd normally go for (height difference, rough guy/sheltered girl, tragedy) BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT.

She was sold to him by her scummy brother and he raped her on their wedding night in a particularly brutal fashion (not that any rape is good, but that was particularly gross - just because she didn't shove him off didn't make it any less rape. WTF with the dragging a sheltered young woman to a freaking wilderness, lifting up her clothes and taking her from behind without any preliminaries or talking. Ugh. That was the most disturbing scene in the first ep). Ummmm. How on earth can one just overlook it and go into shipper territory? I am a lot more OK with questionable stuff in fictional romantic pairings than many of my flisties but this is a whole other level of insanity. WTF?????? I do not get. I thought that stuff went out with 1980s romance novels. Guess not.

To make clear, I have no problem with Dany developing feelings for the guy - she is stuck in that life and with the morals of that world, and might as well make the best of it. But we are not Dany. So WTF????

The shippers do make pretty vids.

Yeah, v.v. shippable. Except for the RAPE!!!!

Anyway, am about halfway through the first season. The show continues not to be my thing, to be honest - I don't care for any of the characters, nor do I find them particularly interesting. Plus, I read wiki spoilers and what a nasty nasty world did GRRM create. I've read things that were pretty grim (nonfiction about Rwandan genocide or Warsaw ghetto uprising, etc etc) so I am no wuss but to have that sort of unrelenting misery for everyone forever in a fictional world seems to make no sense especially since it's no as if GRRM has some deep message to convey (e.g. Zamyatin's "We" may be grim but it actually gives me things to think about). I am not sure I'll continue.

Some verrrrrry creative fans intercut clips of Chuno (which starred Lee Da Hae) and Sungkyunkwan Scandal (which starred Yoochun) to make a trailer for a sort of Joseon take on Ms. Ripley. Loooove:

My love is probably the greater because Chuno was my n1 drama of last year and SKKS was n2 (I love my fusion sageuks) so it's fun to see them so cleverly spliced together.

I would totally watch the heck out of that drama if it existed, btw.

This:

Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

I planned to check KKLY out when it first aired because I am a huge fan of Dylan Kuo ever since The Outsiders and because the storyline (wounded cold girl, her sweet-natured first love etc etc) sounded pretty up my alley. But then I followed the whole Ming Dao (who played secondary guy) drama on AF and that particular storyline and his insane fangirls (OMG! He almost raped her! It's romantic because it's her fault for not wanting to marry him after blackmail but liking her original bf!) put me off anything KKLY-related for life (or so I thought). Especially since they seemed dead-set that at the end heroine was going to pick wannabe rapist.

BUT. The drama ended and she did not pick scumbag but instead ended up with her original, non-rapey love, reaffirming my faith in the writers not being sociopaths or insane. (Ahhh, the fangirls' tears and rage were sweeeeeeet). So that problem is solved. Now, all I need to do is just skip all Ming Dao parts (an easy feat as to say I am not a fan is an understatement) and I am set for some shippy fun and angst with sexy sexy Dylan Kuo.

KKLY, here I come!

I've started to watch fancams of DH filming. That's it. I. Need. To. Stop.

Also, the soompi thread for that drama is somewhere I try to steer far from. Not only are the character wars full of flamey ragey fun (suprisingly, the shipper wars aren't too bad, but the 'Baekhee=awesome/psycho; Hyemi=awesome/bitch' wars are craaazy), but I get the feeling I am old enough to be any of the participants' mother. Their discussions of life and romance, regardless of their shippy preferences, make me grin nostalgically and a bit worriedly.

Anyway, my slate is pretty open - other than DH and and Gloria, I am not really following anything actively (I decided I am going to wait for My Princess to finish and then binge). So I decided to check out Joe Cheng's newest, Channel X, in which he's a news anchor accused of the murder of his fiancee. It looks gritty and good about 5 mins in!
