Randomly scouring viki, I came across the 2011 Nicholas Tse/Charlene Choi fantasy drama Sword Heroes Fate [sic]. Now, you may not realize it, but I have an utterly irrational obsession with Nic Tse. There are a bunch of actors I like better, but there isn't any other actor where I will watch a drama from beginning to end simply because he's in it, whether I like the drama itself or not. I am not sure whether it's the hotness (stick the man in a wuxia, give him a sword and long hair, and he looks utterly at home) or the fact that he was the star of very first wuxia drama I've ever seen (Handsome Siblings, about which more below) and I've imprinted, like a baby duck.

Anyway, SHF is huge huge fun! It starts out in 2030, where Nic and Charlene are a long-time couple whose relationship is on the skids. But it is all about to change when the company where Charlene works unveils a new virtual reality game - you can 'transform' into an ancient Tang person (while keeping your memories and personality, of course) and play the game as if you are in it. Only while Charlene and Nic are both in it during the trial run, a mysterious bad guy (hint: it's the cute puppy guy who makes dolls for orphans in his spare time, LOL) blocks the players from exiting the game so they are trapped. Not only that, but he causes Charlene to lose her memories so she now believes she is her Tang persona - a famous period beauty who has no memories of Nic and their life together. So now Nic must find a magical jade in hopes it will restore her memories. Oh, and Charlene becomes Nic's enemy and a member of an evil cult. Not sure what else will go on but I am sure Nic will be stoic yet angsty and people will get stabbed. Guys, couples' therapy would have been so much easier, honest!

Have a trailer:

Anyway, I watched the first ep and it was a great deal of fun when, to my horror, I realized that only the first ep was subbed so far. Nooooo!!!! *wail wail wail* So I decided to sate my Nic craving by digging out their 2007 drama The Spirit of the Sword. I saw the first ep of TSotS ages ago and really liked it. My cdrama list is getting more and more insane. Have a cute MV from that drama:

And since we are on it, have a MV of Handsome Siblings, Nic/Fan Bing Bing couple. The drama itself is hugely uneven (the Dicky Cheung storyline made me want to kill things) but NT/FBB were totally amazing and are still one of my favorite otps of all time - he's an angsty assassin forbidden to love, she is a tough sane fighter girl who makes him break that rule, angst angst shippiness amazing insane evil parents (his adopted mother still takes the cake for the most psycho drama parent), plus more awesomeness.

Sexy Butler used to be a teacher/professor/similar - that is how youngest daughter in the family knows him. And she asks him why on earth he's now working for their family which is a big step down. Hmmmm. Combined with his off-handedly asking about dead oldest son's wife (the one who was branded on the face by her father in the prologue and sent to the Gu house), I am beginning to think he gave up his career and entered the Gu family as a servant to find out about her. Is he her lover? Her brother? This being a drama, perhaps both? :P Hmmmm. Meanwhile, I continue to believe it's not right to be so gorgeous. If he was teaching in my school, I'd definitely be hot for teacher:

Also, loved this scene because FBB's character is fierce - when evil sis-in-law was basically having sexy butler beaten to death to have FBB to confess to adultery, FBB basically told her (a) fuck off (b) signed 'confession' where she says she was coerced (c) told her if she didn't stop the beating right now, she was going to kill herself and how was evil s-i-l was going to explain a corpse on their best carpet to mother (d) actually attempted to stab self.

Of course she wins. Ah, she's so fierce and smart and awesome and utterly without fear. I sort of want a cross-over between RRR and FWC - she could probably single-handedly murder all the awful men and women of FWC. I want to see her take on Puppy Killer.

See you all after my surgery :)

Evil sister-in-law just locked up heroine and sexy butler in the steam room (sadly for steaming bamboo, not bathing - I demand nudity!) together, in order to get heroine framed for adultery and thrown out of the family. And turned the steam way up so they'd be tempted to take off their clothes. ROFL. Perhaps she's a Wallace Huo fangirl? Anyway, all I could think of is "take advantage of the locked doors, and jump him, girl!" Saaaaaad. I am a sad case. But instead they rescue themselves.

Also, heroine has been married for a while but her husband hasn't shown up yet. He didn't even bother coming for the wedding and they had to use sexy butler as a stand-in (talk about bait-and-switch!). That man sounds repellent already.

Heroine of this, though, is totally tough and awesome and sort of like a period Makino. Nothing is going to get her down and clearly she is bound to grind evil sis-in-law into dust at some point. Woooo!

Some pretty shippy caps )

ETA: Clearly, the laurels of Four Women Conflict is giving RRR no peace because now they are being questioned by evil sis-in-law and she orders sexy butler beaten. Lady, don't you know he's a Taoist warrior Priest par excellence and can destroy your whole house? :P Also, this is generally most idiotic plan ever because heroine hasn't yet consummated marriage with deadbeat husband and obviously has not been sexing up sexy butler (darn!) so it's easy enough to check she's a virgin.

OK, why don't I have any Wallace Huo icons, really?

I have just started Romantic Red Rouge, also known as Red Snow, a period cdrama starring Mousie favorites Fan Bing Bing and Wallace Huo (hello, paging [livejournal.com profile] kitkat_cat!). FBB plays a woman married against her will into a rich, secretive family who falls in love with Wallace Huo who works for the family for some mysterious reasons of his own. I believe they shall be mandated to have pretty babies for the sake of all humanity.

I am barely five minutes in and I am totally in love! It's so pretty and interesting and *turns fangirl mode on* it has the best first OTP meeting ever!

Yup, he's on the river when she suddenly pops out of the water. She is running away from her arranged marriage and he's the one who accidentally prevents her. Eeeeee! You dug your own angst pit, boy!

Also, the more I watch period dramas, the more I am happy to be in the now. The drama opens (six months before the story proper starts) with some woman who's about to be married when her husband keels over right before the wedding. So her father says she'll now be known as a curse and her best hope for a virtuous life is to be forever chaste, living in her to-be husband's house and to assure that outcome he brands her on the face, so she'll be disfigured and nobody would want her. WTF!!!

ETA: For all those annoyed by my occasionally excessive posting, relief is on the way. I am having surgery tomorrow so posting will probably be a bit sparce for a few days and you guys get a break.

I have just discovered that Fan Bing Bing and Wallace Huo did a pre-modern drama together called Red Snow where they play a star-crossed OTP - she's a woman married against her will and he's a butler in that household for secret reasons.

The MV looks very pretty:

And there are subs.

I have just bought Four Women Conflict with Ady An and Feng Shao Feng and the Ady An/Peter Ho drama Legend of a Hero so can't afford to buy this for a while. I am going to be patient and see if I can find subs elsewhere.

This cdrama addiction is dangerous.

And speaking of Ady An, have opening credits from Four Women Conflict. Pretty and melo, no?

Yes, I know how this drama ends. Yes, I still bought it. Yes, I plan to binge.
