You guys have GOT to read [livejournal.com profile] fishcake's explanation to me of the family background of one of the two main male characters (Qi You, played by Yan Kuan) in Qing Shi Huang Fei. Mainly because I am still boggling and need people to share my bogglement.

Umm, I this think wins the title of most messed-up drama family ever, and that's saying something (if you are too lazy to click on link, hero manages a feat I have not seen before - have both his birth-mother and his bringing-up mother want him dead and his father be OK with it. Family unanimity yay?) Also, just to add more irresistible wrong on top, heroine is a dead ringer for his first-loved-then-hated stepmom? Who (the heroine) he wanted to seduce his brother but then fell for himself? Sooooo messed up - there is a team of shrinks salivating to get to these people! Where are my subs!!!

Overall, I guess my earlier advice to Qi You to kill himself now and be better off was even more prescient than I thought. Ah, cdramas!

On plus side, he looks very pretty angsting, which seems a necessary skill in his circumstances and will come in even handier as the story progresses - I've seen the trailers. Nothing good happens ever! To anyone!

P.S. Do not breed with anyone, Fu Ya! Qi You OR Lian Cheng! Insanity may be hereditary!

I know, I know, I am only on ep 30-something and this is from the final ep. But I got brief glimpses of this scene in MVs and simply had to see this for myself.

Suffice it to say, it was glorious. My inner 12-yr-old was squeeing like mad. This just might be my favorite sequence in the entire drama.

I am not sure whether to feel awful for Shang Xiang because she has the worst father in history, who aparently thinks it's a great idea to get his daughter possessed by demons so that she can kill her OTP and all her friends, or to feel happy she has such an awesome OTP. Dilemmas!

Behind the cut are tons of caps, summaries and thoughts. Go go go go Xiu/Shang Xiang! )

Yeah, I know it was a ton of caps, but seeing that I started with over 2400, that's less than 10% of total.

Even though this journal is 90% kdramas, my favorite drama type is actually Mainland period dramas. Nothing is as good as those, nothing as designed to appeal to my tastes. I haven't seen nearly as many of them as I have kdramas, in part because the subs are hard to find, in part because at minimum 30-40 eps, they are a major time committment, and in part because once I find a good one, I tend to hoard (yes, I am still saving Romantic Red Rouge for a rainy day. Sue me).

You know, what I love as much as I do period cdramas? Yang Mi, the gorgeous and charismatic star of Jade Palace Lock Heart (and many other dramas). I have a massive girlcrush on her. Another thing I love? Manpain and romance.

What do you get when you add all of these together? You get the upcoming period cdrama romance Ruyi starring Yang Mi and Hawick Lau.

And do you know the plot? Using fragrant tea plantations as the setting, new drama “Ruyi” is a Republican era piece starring Yang Mi and Hawick Lau. Hawick Lau will play Tan Mingkai, the young master of the Tan clan and the heir to its fortune. The title character, Ruyi (played by Yang Mi), is an ordinary worker on the tea plantations. A secret? Their lives are the result of a switcheroo – Mingkai’s real mother almost died giving birth to him; to save his wife, Mingkai’s birth father (a plantation worker) sold him to be Madam Tan’s son. Family conflict, former best friends become enemies, disaster and calamity…and of course, challenging it all, love. (from cfensi).

Oh God, has this thing been designed especially for me or what? I WANT I WANT I WANT!!!

So, I've been spending the evening of working through my Miss Ripley backlog.

You know, a lot of people have said that even though they like MR, they can't really root for anyone, but I root for Miri to the inevitable dead end - sure she is broken, manipulative, scary but she has been so abused by the world and is so desperate to escape her true self, I cannot help but want her to get what she wants. And I genuinely ship Miri/Yuhyun, though chances of them ending up happily together is approximately 2%.

Also, I am at a loss how Miri/Yuhyun scenes can look so romantic on the surface and be so terrifying under it )

And a MV:

So, we have just found out Undaddy's real reason for kidnapping Yoon Sung as a baby and it is the sickest, most repugnant, selfish thing imaginable.

Spoilers for the first 15 mins of ep 12 of City Hunter )

Btw, it's official. Yoon Sung has possibly replaced Hyun Joon of IRIS as my favorite drama protagonist ever. Oh please please please don't end the way IRIS did. I will never be over that one.

And have an amazing MV spoilery through ep 11:

and all I can say is "I want you to die, bastard Undaddy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get eaten slowly by poisonous snakes after getting your face bashed in!!!!!!!!!!!!"

What kind of a fucking monster yells at his 'kid' about how useless he is because he rescued the bodyguard and his "you should have killed her and gone after the target" rant makes me wants to claw his eyes out and feed them to him, especially as he is completely unconcerned YS' wound tore open again or anything other than his 'failure' to kill an innocent person.

Oh, fucking psycho, go die.

I am going to say this upfront - I don't care who else buys it, even if it's my darlings Yoon Sung and Nana, as long as Undaddy is dead dead dead by the end. He's a much bigger monster than any of his targets. Ugh, no words for how I hate him.
