I simply had to share these official stills with you.

This looks like a nice and normal school uniform, right? WRONG! Take a look at the left side of this jacket? Did his buttons spontaneously reproduce and migrate? Does he barf sparkles? What?

That dress looks like it's made out of inexpertly-tucked toilet paper.

I have no words. I am not sure if we caught Yoo Jin in the initial stages of his transformation into a flesh-eating monster from Garo or he is actually secretly half-hedgehog, but either way, it makes my head hurt.

OK, I think it's insane to dress as Princess Librarian who timetraveled from the 1950s, but at least it looks good.

In other WTF news, the teaser for The Strongest K-POP Audtion is out and, oooh boy. This is going to be horrific, isn't it?

First off, standard disclaimer: SPOIL ME FOR THIS WEEK'S SHUT UP AND PERISH!!!!

Now that DH2 seems to be drawing to a close, I finally gave in to my barely-checked curiosity and checked it out. At the end of ep 1 I decided, in no particular order that:

(a) this is not a good drama
(b) I am entertained as hell by its cheesiness

I think my realization that DH2 and I were meant to be came about ten minutes into the episode, when JB decided to fight the Man for his God-given right to gyrate on stage after 10pm.

Go, you martyr for human rights!

(What you don't see is that the rest of him is covered in some sort of demented leather and feathers combo)

Sure, later it came out there was some additional reasons but I am too amused by the concept of fighting dancing oppression to let it go :P

Hae Sung is too dim to exist but it bothers me much less when the heroine is 17. I do like Rian, the resident bitch diva. You go, girl!

I have pretty much no impression of Yoo Jin except that his earring is verry distracting.

Most of the young cast can't act much but for once, I don't mind cutting some slack to the idols. These are not roles that require drama chops but a big part of it is being able to sing/dance/look good on stage, which idols do know how to do.

Basically, with liberal fast-forwarding, this is dumb-as-rocks but fun. Plus, I love the soundtrack.

Yup, I have no taste.

1. I am clearing some of my drama backlog, which means I am back to Me Too, Flower, a drama I enjoyed when I watched until I got sidetracked. Just finished ep 11 and I've remembered how on-key, lovely it is when it deals with its damaged yet hopeful protagonists and their dealings with the world and each other. I've rarely seen a drama couple that fits each other and needs each other so well because of their damage. (It's like a much lighter version of Bali). And yet, I pretty much am bored with everything else in this - the business storyline, Bong Sun's sister, the shrink, the annoying Hwa Young, who seems to have borrowed crazy secondary girl's playbook from circa 2002 (I love hating a good secondary like 'let me frame your husband for rape so you'll be forced to leave him in exchange for his freedom' dude in DGCH, but HY isn't even that fun to hate and I really wish someone less cool and less of a Mousie favorite than Han Go Eun played her).

2. Not watching Dream High 2 (though will likely do a selective watch once its over) but the soompi thread is ridiculously entertaining - combo of idol actors and the fact that even as of ep 13 the OTPs are not set in stone , the flamebait is strong.

Though it looks like JB and Hyesang will be the OTP - seeing that they start out as idol and his fangirl, that's pretty much THE fangirl fantasy there. I am enough of a shoujo fan (and a fan of silly poppy bubblegum) to turn in for that (or once I am sure which OTP is the endgame. I am not big on guessing wrong). This MV does a very good job of selling them:

Oh, and this confession is ridiculously cheesy and oddly cute and the acting makes me giggle. I am sold (turn on cc for subs).

Also, apparently the synospis for ep 14 includes the following: While giving chase to [Hyesung], JB was knocked down by a fast moving truck on the road because he was trying to save a little boy who was retrieving his ball. Bwahahahahahahaha! I must watch this gem. A Choi Ji Woo melo circa 2002 called and wants its plot back :P

I promise to reply to comments tomorrow. Am ridiculously exhausted and swamped (and trying to stay unspoiled for SUFBB 9-10. SPOIL ME AND DIE).

OK, on with the show...

1. Did you ever find yourself thinking "I wish there was another kdrama with the exact plot of You're Beautiful minus the awesomeness of Jang Geun Seok?" If so, your dreams are about to be realized. Channel A is getting ready to premiere The Ultimate Audition, a drama starring Park Yoohwan (Yoochun's baby brother) and a bunch of newbie idols, all about a girl cross-dressing to join an idol group and getting involved with the group leader, who's perfect in front of the fans but is actually a jerk in private. Sound familiar? If I were Hong Sisters, I'd be getting my lawyers up.

Your eyes bleeding yet?

Snark (and the fact that even writing the above paragraph reduced my IQ by a dozen points) aside, I am all set for the first ep to air, and I will be all over this baby. Sometimes I enjoy silly cotton candy and this makes me think of my fun twdramas of old. Now, let's hope there will be subs - viki doesn't have rights to cable stuff, this is likely to be too low-profile for dramafever and withs2, so my hope is in DS...

2. So excited for King 2 Hearts which makes me think more and more of some of my favorite shoujo. And darn if Lee Seung Gi doesn't look handsome in that uniform and with that hairstyle:

I normally fall for his characters like mad, but this is the first time I've found him gorgeous off the bat.

More pics. I want this out already! )

Also, Ha Ji Won is ridiculously gorgeous and I can't tell the age difference at all (I mean, I have no idea if it's supposed to be an older woman/younger man romance, but I am willing to buy they are the same age!)

3. Speaking of royals getting involved with kickass ladies, the posters for Rooftop Prince are out and they are all adorable (you can find them all on soompi and dramabeans) but this is my favorite:

This is going to be kooky adorable!

4. I have watched the first ep of the Qing palace mystery Mystery in the Palace, starring Gai Ting Ting and Kevin Cheng (a.k.a. the only man except for FSF to actually look gorgeous in Qing braid). It's gorgeous (the costumes! the sets!), the story is interesting, and the OTP (who may or may not be half-siblings) will be just my thing, if MVs and previews are anything to go by:

5. Apparently the OTPs of Dream High 2 are still as clear as mud 10 (out of 16) episodes in. There are ship wars. By this point, I think TPTB are just screwing with fangirls.

I apologize for the sporadic nature of my posts, but Mr. Mousie is very busy for a couple of weeks, so I am a de facto single parent through next week, which leaves one with a bit less time to blog. Anyway...

1. I am ridiculously nostalgic and feel like a Goong rewatch. It's my favorite candy-colored, emotionally-real-despite-manga-setup delight. Plus, I adore both Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon and their chemistry is insane. Who's with me? :)

2. I tried Dream High 2 and I didn't loathe it or anything, but it didn't click. There are too many characters, none of whom I can distinguish from one another and none of them interesting enough to motivate me to try. It feels like chewing plastic. The first DH, despite its flaws, was genuinely fun. Part of DH2's misfortune is that I keep comparing it to scruffy, heartfelt, real Shut Up, but leaving that aside, it's genuinely uninspiring on its own merits.

3. In news of other dramas that bored me - I gave Fermentation Family a chance, I really did. I know it's from the same people who made Mawang and Resurrection, but if I didn't know it, I would have never believed it. I believe FF may be used as a sleep inducer in insomniacs.

4. I am slowly watching and liking period cdrama Pretty Maid. Though unless I am missing something (and I hope I am), isn't the heroine and her OTP half-siblings? Eeeek.

5. I am madly excited to check out Hanbando/Korean Peninsula/Peninsula/18 million other titles. No softsubs yet, but it's streaming on dramafever.

6. This scene is pretty much the most awesome thing ever:

The one where he gets poisoned defending her, she immobilizes him so he won't be able to protest when she sucks out the poison, then she collapses but he manages to get her to the healing place in time )

Yesterday was the turn of "Unrealized Realities," an ep I really like (from then on, despite somewhat uneven beginnings, s4 becomes an unstoppable juggernaught of awesomeness).

Anyway, here are my thoughts.

* Chiana may not seem to be the best relationship guru (seeing how her one relationship that wasn't a one-night stand, imploded) but she actually is, when it comes to Aeryn and Crichton - her comment back in s2 about how he'd have to go fast with the body and slow with the soul with Aeryn was spot on (too bad he wasn't listening) and her advice to Aeryn here, that neither English nor wormholes are something she has to learn to win him back but something else is - that is very on-point. What is broken in their relationship (and yes, yes, I know he's taking lakka to prevent Scorpy from realizing how crucial Aeryn is to him (and doubling the doze, omg - that says volumes about intensity of his feeling) but lakka or not, there really is an issue there and his disappointment and anger) is trust and a sense of security.

* Crichton's attitude to yet someone else chasing him for his mind/messing with his mind, has evolved from A Human Reaction, Won't Get Fooled Again and even John Quixote - he is matter-of-fact, 'what else is new' mixed with controlled anger.

* How very Farscapian that Crichton sees a myriad of 'unrealized realities' and not a single one of them is in any way pleasant. The fact that his current reality is the best of the bunch is pretty horrifying. All the unrealized realities go from bad to worse to worst and, significantly, the worst reality (even worse than the one where Earth is taken by Scarrans and Scorpius is his father), the one which gets Crichton to tell Einstein to kill him, is the one where he betrays all his friends and loved ones and allies with Crais - no matter how messed up he goes, no matter how a shadow of his former sane/non-violent self, he will always be ready to give up his life for those he loves. (Side note - ahhh, I miss Zhaan and Crais and Jool and seeing them again was wonderful).

* On realities front, I loved seeing the one where Sikozu was a Scarran spy simply because Crichton looks amazing in PK leathers and Sikozu looked awesome doing her anti-gravity shooting thing. (Maybe she should hang out with River). I do think the worst fate would be the one he faced near the end - not to be remembered at all, not to be important enough to matter to anyone (which is something that Crichton will never be - unmemorable, love him or hate him).

* Ahhhh, the irony of that ending - I find it fascinating that Crichton was concentrating so hard of thinking of 'home' and so he is at Earth not Moya. Which makes sense - he's lived on Earth a lot longer than he has on Moya. But I think it is also because he has not yet fully realized how incompatible he is with Earth, how Moya is where he belongs. Crichton knows he'd pick Aeryn over Earth but he doesn't yet know that even leaving that choice out of the equation, he can't pick Earth any more - the uncharted territories and all the horrors and emotions that happened to him made him into someone very different than the man he was when he left.

Also, my DVD boxset of S1 of First Wave has got here. EEEE! I've been craving to have DVDs of this since forever. Though at the rate they are releasing them, I'll get s3 when I am 80.

On the drama front, I checked out first ep of Dream High 2. It's cute and poppy and not particularly involving but is something I'll probably watch when more eps are out. I think this is pretty much Korean High School Musical - silly and shallow but fun and with wholesome high school singing. I confess I have more interest in Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, not in the least because that title is pretty much insane.
