[livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf's post on her fave drama kisses made me want to do my own list but it also reminded me of Devil Beside You. I am not a huge fan of the drama (too fluffy for me) but back then it was the first drama I've seen with so much kissing. Thankfully some kindly youtubber compiled them all.

Did I mention they are stepsiblings? They must be the CLOSEST stepsiblings ever!

I am in the small minority of people who do not care for Devil Beside You, because the main couple irritate me, but, but, but...

I adore the Secondary OTP with a mad passion. They are my fave secondary OTP and if the drama was about them, I'd love DBY a heck of a lot.

It doesn't hurt that Yuan Yi ia played by Kingone, who is incredibly hot as always.

So, yeah, basically my OTP for the drama are Yuan Yi and Qing Zi. For those who have never seen DBY, Yuan Yi is a very straight-arrow, quietly serious basketball team captain, and at the beginning of the drama, the heroine has a crush on him. She ends up preferring the badboy hero (why???? I have never gotten it, ever!) and Yuan Yi, who liked her back, is devastated.

Qing Zi is the pushy, spunky best friend of the heroine (who, unlike the Heroine, is not a walk-over drip). She has always liked Yuan Yi but was never going to say anything, but now...she is going to try to win him over.

I was a goner for that ship from the moment she went running looking for him in the rain to find him possibly crying (Heroine just dumped him) and told him she liked him, kissed him on the cheek and ran away. Awwww. And they end up being just such an awesome, common-sense couple (they always talk out their misunderstandings), with some wonderfully crazy romantic stuff (I mean, she asks him to tell her just the ends of the fairytales and he keeps doing one story after another, until she falls asleep? And he rescues her from a date rapist? And he has to duel her kendo champion father for the right to keep her with him in Taiwan? SQUEE).

Anyway, I could ramble about them forever, so better stop, and here is the MV.

Oh Battlestar I am so your bitch. In a sense of being a shippery weathervane, and in loving everything you throw at me with the exception of quadrangle of doom and Fat!Lee and Gaius Jesus Baltar.

Why?

I bring you spoilery pics from some upcoming ep (3.17) and they are just so shiny.

In other news, spent some time browsing manga in Borders. Yum. Did you know that the manga on which Devil Beside You is based has been licensed? They had volumes of it there (called Devils do Exist). I flipped through it and very cute. I can see why they picked Mike He as the lead because the manga hero is yummy. (Though once again, proving that manga hairstyles work only in manga).

I have also flipped through Tramps Like Us (the manga on which Kimi Wa Petto, which I so need to finish stat, is based). You know what is so weird? The casting people are scary as the drawings of Sumire and Momo look a lot like MatsuJun and Kyoko. Eeeek! Though the way the author draws the mouths (very lush) makes it look almost Korean-manhwa style.

Speaking of Korean manhwa, I flipped through the first volume of Goong (yeah, I read scanlations earlier but it's different seeing it in print). It's delightful (and I can see why they cast Joo Ji Hoon as manga!Shin=uber!hot) but I prefer the drama. It's more nuanced somehow, more complicated (like Mars drama v. Mars manga). This made me think about Snow Drop and the discussion [livejournal.com profile] vierran45 and I had about the casting for this, if it ever got turned into drama. JJH would make a totally perfect lead in that one (though I might be biased because heeee, want to see him as a nude model). OK, this is really stream of consciousness.

I also flipped through the third volume of Absolute Boyfriend, which I of course love. Read it before and all, but so funny and off the wall and hot. I think it should totally be made into a twdrama (it has a twdrama cracky vibe) and Mike He should play Night (because hello! Inhumanly gorgeous android) and Joe Cheng should play Souji, the nerdy-yet-hot next door neighbor who is in love with the heroine. And Ariel Lin should play the lead. Because that way they both have psycho chemistry with her and Mike He could have another angsty ending and there will be Mike He/Ariel Lin make-out scenes and the whole thought of this is just filling me with glee. Not that it will ever happen, but whatever.

In other news, I've been rewatching Hanadan's ep 4 and eee! I love Yuki and Makino being all girly, dissecting what happened with Rui. And I love Soujiro being all hot and speaking about love and I am totally embarassed but giggling about Domyouji in the cafeteria scene and cut for unspoiled speculation )

I have also watched a bit of Smiling Pasta (the very beginning, as I watched the first eps so long ago) and yup, still delightful. And finished ep 9 of Loveholic, and as predicted, there is more dooooom. Ep 9 spoilers )

Finished Tokyo Juliet ep 12. All I have to say is that I want to stab the bra guy in the eye with a fork.

I checked the cover of my shipped Magic Ring DVD and GLEEEST GLEE THAT EVER GLEED. The English summary on the back is comprehensible! This is usually a good hint the subs will at least make sense (you should see the scary summaries on backs of ISWAK and Goong). YAY. Am a bit closer to angsty angsty Joe Cheng (though if it turns into Love Contract Mark 2, I will scream. I watched LC after DBY because I wanted to see Mike He angst and ended up bawling for hours). Am amused that the front refers to it as 'fetish' serial. I know they mean 'popular' but a girl can dream, no? Mmmm, Joe Cheng and chains. Hmmmm. pics of DVD cover, front and back )

I have also watched more It Started with a Kiss. Ep 14 (the Christmas episode) makes living worthwhile. Honest. You think I am joking?

I've had a day where I tried out a lot of doramas.

I've watched the beginning of Sassy Girl Chun-Hyang which seems funny (and the heroine is spunky and the hero is cool) but which I will watch properly later.

I've watched the first half of ep 10 of Tokyo Juliet which was excellent. spoilers for ep 10 )

I've also watched the first six eps of It Started with a Kiss. Too fluffy and angst free for me to watch in huge doses, but in small doses, very fun. I am so totally into Zhi Shu. ISWAK thoughts )

I also watched the first episode of Sang Doo, let's go to school, a K-drama starring Rain (yes, I am addicted, why do you ask?) as the titular character, who is a young gigolo with a small sickly daughter who meets the one true love of his life (a girl he loved in high school but who moved away and then he went to jail long story) again and their feelings are still there. It's excellent, excellent, excellent. I highly recommend. In addition to Rain, to whom I am apparently a hopeless dorama slave, it's beautifully shot and the story itself is rather delicately lovely. There is this one scene where he comes out in the rain and sees her asleep in the car, and just the look on his face, watching her through the window, is worth the price of the DVD. I also love how it keeps flashing between their innocent golden past (where they rode on bicycles through idyllic green fields and sat looking at fireflies by the river, and where he was the smart, confident and popular boy) and their tattered present (where they are in a dingy city environment, and he is a overburdened young father with no prospects and a seedy and desperate career as a gigolo and con-artist).

thoughts on one particular flashback in the ep )

But ultimately, this Labor Day, my heart belongs to Love Contract a Taiwanese dorama starring Mike He and Ariel Lin. I've only watched a little bit (the credits, which are beyond gorgeous) and the ending, but I am going to fall madly in love with it, I can tell. Mike He is unnaturally gorgeous, and I've discovered this already in Devil Beside You, but here, where he has normal hair, has naturalistic acting, and a boatload of angst? He is a weapon of mass female destruction. Just take a look:

And I like Ariel Lin more and more with each dorama I watch. And it's all very pretty.

More Love Contract pics )

I will post picspams and more meta on both Sang Doo and Love Contract, but for now, time for bed.

I finished Devil Beside You last night but forgot to post about it.

It definitely is the cheesiest dorama I've seen. I don't know if I'd rec it as I didn't care for the lead couple (but the leads are cute and have good chemistry) and it had some moments I really liked and some that didn't work for me at all. Too OTT for me, generally.

Thoughts with rant on the ending )

When you show up in the wee hours of the morning with your hot secret boyfriend who is your brother to be to be met by the mother who is mad and worried and is suspecting your brother to be and you are actually much too close and she asks you why you weren't answering your phone, the correct answer is:

a. My battery was out of juice.
b. We were somewhere loud and didn't hear it.
c. Because we went to a hotel.

Hmmmm, I wonder which option our lovers picked. Devil Beside You is not my favorite drama (it's filled with too much cheese and not angsty enough for my liking) but oh boy, it's entertaining.

I am up halfway through ep 17 and I do have random observations, aside from the fact that Mike He is seriously a product of a glorious genetic experiment. And that his fashion designer for this drama should be shot.

I also adore how when he hugs her, he sort of engulfs her, and he shelters her with his coat. EEEE!

Various fave moments, spoilers halfway through 17 )

This is the cheesiest one I've seen so far but I like cheese so it's OK. I am not in love with it the way I've been with others, but it is fun.
