Twdramas were my first drama loves (Mars and Meteor Garden were my first and second drama, respectively) and you never forget your first love, do you?

That is why, much as I might love the slickness of kdrama and the understatedness of jdrama, few things will get me as giddy or emo as a well-done twdrama.

So, after I’ve done my Top Dozen Jdramas and my Top 25 Kdramas, the next logical step is the Top 10 Twdramas/Cdramas, isn’t it? So I did one over a year ago, but have found that I need to majorly revise it.

So here is my updated Top 10 twdrama/cdrama list. Once again, same thing applies: only finished ones (or nearly), as unspoilery as I can make it, blahblahblah.

List, with summaries, reasons, pics, and vids )

In conclusion, yes, Vic Zhou is still my favorite drama actor, all these dramas later.

New set of clips for Korean Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers just came out (thank you, [livejournal.com profile] salimbol, for pointing me towards it):

There are very very few new clips here, but the quality is much better than the fancam.

Also, I knew they were going to include it, but let me reiterate my squee at the whole Rui and Makino smooch on the beach with Domyouji observing, bit. I always love that part. I might be a D/M shipper but that boy needs a lot of trouble to mature him at least a bit, and there is something very aesthetically pretty about Rui smoochies :)

Plus, this guy has been cast as Junpei. He is certainly suitably model-looking:

I know Junpei is a bad guy and all, but I rather adore him. Maybe because I think few drama heroes deserve a thorough, life-threatening beat-down as much as Domyouji, and let's face it, Junpei is pretty justified in his wrath. Also, Junpei is one of the few hot guys in the manga that came into Makino's vicinity and did not fall for her total spunk. I find his last appearance in the story pretty awesome. He has the nerve to barge into the hospital and be all 'ehhh, I still hate you, Domyouji, pity your spleen is still attached, but hey Makino, you are cool despite your awful taste in men, so if you wanna be friends...' or similar.

In other news, I finished Corner with Love which was adorable and very pretty (OMG, all the kissing! And the scene in the rain when he comforts her!) but the ending was a bit drawn out and I wanted to shake the two of them and make them get together sooner.

I am on episode 12 of Corner with Love (I have the DVD version so the total is 23 eps) and I love it so madly: it's the perfect combo of funniness, romance, and a bit of angst. Just GUUUUUH. I haven't fallen for a Taiwanese drama this hard in a long time.

Also, Barbie and Alan's characters are such total darlings. I love everything about them: the bickering, the super-solid friendship, the chemistry, and the fact that they are a bit in denial about their feelings (though he less than she) even with all the kissing.

Yes. KISSING. This drama has a lot! I love htier first kiss, where they are in the middle of a conversation and he asks her to close her eyes and she does, because she thinks he is doing this thing where you have to describe the other person's face with eyes closed (long story) and in the middle of it, he just swoops in and kisses her! And her eyes pop open but she doesn't move for a long time and then she does shove him off and is all 'why the hell did you do that?' and he looks totally dazed and is 'I don't know.' *pause* And she grabs him and kisses him!!!! EEEEEE! And also says she doesn't know why :)

Or the way they are jealous, or the kiss in the pool, where they are fighting and he just kisses her. OMG.

Also, I haave to say I love girl friendships in this, and I love the interesting approach to Barbie's fiance, who ditched her when she became poor. He is not evil or even money-grubbing. He is just weak and a wet blanket and can't stand up to his parents. Booo! He would be pretty useless in times of adversity.

I have just finished the first episode of the Taiwanese drama Corner with Love, starring Barbie Hsu (my favorite drama actress) and Alan Luo (who I really like).

I am in love! It's a giddy, fun, romantic delight of a drama. The plot is sort of a reverse Cinderella. Barbie's character is a rich girl, who is spoiled but not bratty (you can't help but love her as even when she is being unreasonable, she is not being mean). Her paths cross with the bristly, hot-tempered aspiring artist (but now a fry cook) played by Alan Luo.

Barbie's life is seemingly perfect -- the only child of doting rich parents, she has just gotten engaged to a man of her dreams. But her world is about to come crumbling down, as her parents lose everything and leave, sure that her rich fiance will be able to take care of her. Umm. Yeah, right. Rich fiance quickly gets engaged to another rich heiress and Barbie is left on her own, no money, no work skills, no family. The only person she knows in her new mileau is Alan Luo. Will she learn job skills and idependence? Will they fall in love? Will rich fiance come back to try to cause havoc? Will Dangermousie love all this? Heck yeah.

Look at this adorable shippy MV:

My favorite scene in the first ep? When Alan is teaching Barbie how to cook shrimp omelettes and she doesn't want to tie her hair back with a rubber band because it would ruin it, so he ends up holding her hair for her, and then can't help but lean in and smell it. Such a little, yet sexy scene. Twdramas are always so much more natural about sexuality and attraction than jdramas, for some reason.

I think I might just drop Liar Game for now. I liked ep 2, but it's getting a little bit wearisome. I think I'll leave it aside for a bit and swap Summer x Summer or Corner with Love for it. Will watch LG game later but for now, it's probably being put in storage. Oh well.

I bring you 'Dil Laga Na' from Dhoom 2, one of the most shamelessly eye-popping Bolly vids out there.

Context. We are in Rio. Super-thief Aryan (Hrithik) just found out that the love of his life (and fellow crook) Sunehri (Aishwarya) was a mole planted by the cop Jai(Abhishek) to catch him. He is reckless and bitter and all sorts of things, so he decides to take her for one last night on the town and do what all criminals do when upset: get involved in a musical number about how love takes your life away. Oblivious Sunehri joins in, though of course her own secret sorrow is that she has fallen in love for real. Jai adds his two cents in and so do the comic sidekicks played by hideous Uday Chopra and lovely Bipasha Basu.

Conclusion: Hrithik is still the hottest thing on two legs. And the movie shamelessly (and successfully) exploits it. I don't think I've ever seen another Bolly movie as good at fetishizing its leading man (and trust me, that is something Bolly movies excel at). And oh boy, is it successful. I remember hyperventilating in the theater and (all three times I saw it in the theater) walking out by the end, in sheer hormonal haze.

And of course, Aishwarya is gorgeous. And they have psycho chemistry, one of the best I've seen in recent years (other ones would be Saif-Vidya, Rani-Abhishek and Aamir-Kajol). I can't wait for Jodha-Akbar. Elephants, horses, and Hrithik and Aishwarya sword-fighting and falling in love. Mmmmm.

And speaking of reading, I have been reading a funny delicious Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep which I hightly recommend.

Summary (modified from amazon): Chick lit meets comics lit in Estep's fresh debut. Carmen Cole, "reporter extraordinaire" for the Exposé in Bigtime, N.Y., is on a mission—to unmask all superheroes and über villains—after catching her fiancé, Matt Marion (aka the Machinator), in bed with her best friend, Karen Crush (aka Crusher), on Carmen's wedding day. But after Carmen outs a member of the Fearless Five, Travis Teague (aka Tornado), and Travis kills himself, she's not only devastated, she's demoted to society reporter. When the Terrible Triad nabs Carmen, their snarky Malefica insists she unmask the Fearless Five's Striker or suffer dire consequences. By the time Carmen knows who Striker is, they're in love, and turning him over to a superbitch isn't an option.

It's hilarous, it involves a snarky awesome heroine, and a superhero and what more could you want?

I am so gleeful! I found out that a subbing group picked up KO One Oh Jiro! Soon I shall see you be a lead in all your wacky glory. With subtitles!

This group is picking up a lot of twdramas and cdramas! My favorites and least subbed are tw/cdramas so I am so happy!

They also picked up 'Zhong Ji Yi Jia' (with Jiro!!!) and 'Exchange Love' (Mike He! Rainie! Body swap! *dies*)

And there is mention that another sub team is doing 'Corner with Love' (the same group that is doing Hana Kimi!!!), the Barbie Hsu, Alan Luo drama and 'Da Ren Wu' with Nicholas Tse *dies* and Angelica Lee.

Now, if someone picks up 'Delicious Relationship' and the two Joe Cheng dramas, I am set for liiiiiife.

And 'Marry Me.'

Still from Da Ren Wu (OK, the thought of many many hours of Nick Tse makes me giddy):

DRW summary:

To avenge his love, a fearless young swordsman challenges a powerful gang of robbers again and again, despite suffering numerous defeats, ultimately succeeds in defeating them single-handedly. His story inspires countless youth, with young men all taking to wearing red scarves like their hero, and young women dreaming of a suiter just like him. One of these young women is the daughter of an influential nobleman, who has led a sheltered life, until she decides to go out into the world to meet the heroes of her dreams. Little did she expect that real life can be so very different from what she has learned in picturesque stories.

[livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore, I think this one is calling your name.
