Yes, am still watching Vigilantes in Masks - I realize it is glacially slow, but I watch it with Mr. Mousie, and coordinating our schedules to watch things together always takes time :)

Anyway, ep 19 was shipper heaven:

Make out and have wuxia babies already!

Also, we are finally getting Li Gexiao's backstory. His wife is kinda high-strung but I can see why someone as righteous as he likes someone so duty-dedicated and straightforward. Whatever - I don't want the flashback to take too long because modern day LGX >>> flashback LGX, even if I do like the latter, plus Sannyang is miles cooler than the dead wife.

Evil dude killed a dog in flashback. A dog! WTF! Not to mention, he keeps wondering why the girl he likes picked someone else - short answer - other guy saved her life repeatedly and is capable on many fronts, fighting included (which is something of a necessity in a violent society) and looks like Wallace Huo. You run away and hide to leave her to die and are as useful as a kitten. Also, you are a psycho who killed a dog!

The awesome, awesome, awesome (there are not enough 'awesomes') [livejournal.com profile] ockoala of marvelous Koala's Playground has just linked me to the official 3-minute trailer and 7-min footage of the upcoming period/fantasy/romance/wuxia cdrama King of Lan King, starring Feng Shao Feng (!!!!!!) and Ariel Lin (!!!!!!) as star-crossed lovers.

If you like a lot of gorgeous epic romance, epic battles, gorgeous atmosphere and FSF and Ariel (and how could you not?), come right in:

7-min footage:

As I told Koala, I'd watch this for the scene where FSF kneels in the empty courtyard in the rain and Ariel covers him with an umbrella alone.

I have come to the conclusion that Too Late To Say I Love You is pretty much created by my id. I squealed like an idiot when I watched how Warlord and Heroine met. This is pretty much the coolest first meeting for an OTP in any drama I can think of.

Repeatedly saving each other's lives, quipping, kissing, and keepsakes. All while looking stylish. Rather cooler than match.com )

I have a new obsession, a 2010 period cdrama Too Late To Say I Love You (Lai Bu Ji Shuo Wo Ai Ni/来不及说我爱你).

Too Late is set in the turbulent early decades of the 20th-century, so perhaps it is quite appropriate that the heroine's romantic choice revolves between a warlord-in-training and an arms dealer. (A warlord-in-training or an arms dealer - who's the girl to choose?) There are guns, fights, amazing clothes, undying love, and one of the most intense and dysfunctional relationships it has been my privilege to obsess about.

Our heroine, Jing Wan (Li Xiao Ran), has a pretty straightforward mission - to convince the new warlord, Murong Feng (Wallace Chung) to release her arranged fiance, who has gotten nabbed as a result of a botched arms deal. Only guess who falls in love? Perhaps Jing Wen shouldn't have saved a handsome stranger's life on that train...

Much angst abounds, at one point the heroine runs away from her wedding to be with warlord, and the whole thing is delicious...

I am pretty sure this won't end well. Period cdramas with happy endings are freakishly rare and seeing that the heroine's true love is a warlord-to-be, I am sure this is going to go well. Especially since, apparently, her fiance gets so pissed at being jilted that he allies with the Japanese, in a move straight out of psychotic secondary guy playbook (sure, that will totally make her love you again, genius!)

I am currently reveling in the yummy yummy dysfunction. Rarely have I seen a drama hero as obsessed/single-minded/devoted to the heroine as in this. Heroine is at the stage of "I don't love you!" Though perhaps her protestations would be more convincing if they weren't interspersed with cuddling sessions with the Warlord Jr. on (formerly his, currently her*) bed and discussions of military strategy.

Also, there was this awesome exchange:

Warlord: I am going to make every woman's dream come true for you!
Me: Is he going to offer her marriage? babies? undying devotion?
Warlord: I am going to make the world kneel at your feet!
Me: ... OK, then.

* Apparently she got sick and he offered her his room and moved out. Because apparently even a turn-of-the-century warlord is more considerate of the woman he loves than the supposed romantic ideal of Sealed with a Rapey Kiss.

First ten eps are subbed (9 on youtube and 10 on viki). The total ep count is 36 and I am obsessed enough to watch raws...

The awesome cdrama crack-dealer [livejournal.com profile] mookiehyun has just posted a few pictures from the upcoming Chu-Han Contention (go check them, she also has character descriptions of sorts) and me, being me, this is the one I glommed onto:

Yes. This is Peter Ho in costume as Xiang Yu, the legendary warrior king who destroyed the Qin.

!!!!!!!!!!

I have a historical crush mad passion for the man, mainly because of the deadly warrior + angsty angsty love story combo involved but also because the previous two times he appeared in dramas Ive seen (as the main character's friend in The Myth and as one of the protagonists of The Story of Han) I was obsessed with his character (hmmm, time to get back to Story of the Han - I loved what I saw. Hu Jun mmmmmm).

And I am a huge Peter Ho fangirl.

So put the two together and you get heaven...

Plus, Peter Ho rocked it out of the park as Lu Bu in this director's previous masterpiece (because it was a masterpiece - the best Chinese drama I've ever seen, and arguably the best drama period) Three Kingdoms. And Xiang Yu is pretty much Lu Bu (at least in the TK 2010 version) with more brains (and apparently more scruff and grime. MMMMMMM).

I need this to be out already! Also, have they cast the ladies yet? I don't know who I want for Lu Zhi, but I desperately want Liu Shi Shi for Consort Yu, even if that is very unlikely to happen. Mainly because I was a mad Four/Lady Doc shipper in Young Warriors and I want a second go-around (unlikely to end up happier than the first, sadly). Plus, she is so very gorgeous, which Consort Yu needs to be.

And I posted this before, but I like being a pusher, so here is the Xiang Yu/Consort Yu MV from The Story of the Han, scored to the theme song from The Myth.

I have no idea why the Liu Bang - Xiang Yu rivalry is the hot thing in c-ent now, but I don't care, I just want to reap the rewards.

Surely it's not mentally healthy to sing-song "found it found it found it" upon discovering Jade Palace subbed on viikii? Eh, whatever. Am about to start! Time Travel! OTPs! [livejournal.com profile] hollyxu telling me it's like period Hanadan!

An unspoilery MV:

Nothing works for me as much as a period cdrama.

Also, speaking of Hanadan, I am madly tempted to check out Fall In Love, a.k.a. cdrama remake of Autumn in My Heart, starring Zhang Han, a.k.a. the v.v. hot Mainland Domyouji. I just want to see him angst!

ETA: I am barely past the opening credits of JPLH and I am already emotionally orgasming. AHHHH! Where has this been all my life?

ETA2: Yup, it's official. I want to marry this drama and have its babies. I also love the heroine, who's smart and a major history nerd, so if she has to go back in time, she is going to be at least knowledgeable.

ETA3: Am I insane for thinking that heroine's modern-day fiance, who she is dutifully marrying because he is someone her mom wants for son-in-law and who took care of their family, but whom she is not in love with, actually some sort of modern version (whether time-traveling or reincarnated) of her period OTP? Seriously. I am totally thinking this. Hmmmmm...

ETA4: I barely met Fourth Brother and I want to stab him already because of the way he's with the woman who's in love with him (not sure of her name yet). Being all manipulative and trying to use her to further his machinations and she's all "wouldn't you be sad if I had to go to the palace and risk my life?" as per his plans and he's all "nope, you'll be better off that way." Ugh. Though apparently historically he's the one who becomes the next emperor and clearly he's ready for life of intrigue and disregarding others.
