The Legend has to be the tightest plotted drama I've ever seen in my life. If I didn't know otherwise, for certain, I would definitely assume that it is an adaptation of a book. I can also see why they didn't extend the episode order despite the very high ratings: it would play total havoc with the story to fit more eps in. (Or maybe they'd just go broke paying BYJ :D)

I also love the fact that, anime-like, even the 'darkest' characters have believable motivations and are not psycho-cacklers, and you can see humanity even in them, see their POV. And of course, someone like Ho Tae is downright sympathetic: he is, at base, a deeply noble person, and a very talented one, who tries to do the honorable thing even in the situation he is in, but his family, position, and all the other factors, simply won't allow him to be on the right side.

I continue to adore Sujini (I am on ep 8) with mad, mad adoration. If a period fantasy epic could have a heroine like the heroine of Coffee Prince, Sujini would be it :D In comparison with her, Kiha, the other main female, doesn't fare too well. I don't dislike Kiha, and I certainly feel her quite horrid predicament, but I don't find her very interesting at all. She is rather matronly, Sujini's irresistable sense of fun is missing. Which totally reflects in the interactions Dam Deok has with the both of them. I love watching him with Sujini because it is all just so incredibly fun and adorable and the screen sparkles a little. Even Kiha noticed that. But with Kiha, it's theoretically appealing: childhood friends, on opposite sides, small spoiler for ep 7 ), but I dunno, it doesn't capture my imagination. I think DD only likes Kiha because for a long time she was the only girl he really knew well. I don't know, I am not too interested with her and Ho Tae either (though Ho Tae is burning for her, which provides yummy angst). I am just not too interested in Kiha, period. Don't know why.

Also, Dam Deok swordfighting? HOT HOT HOT HOT.

And I am definitely convinced that while we are supposed to think his father is a good man in a tough situation, I still view him as insane and probably a grown-up version of someone who was dropped on the head a lot as a baby.

ETA: Sujini is also a frelling awesome archer. YES. I like my OTPs violent and good with sharp implements. Small spoiler for ep 8 )

ETA2: I just had a revelation! I think part of the reason I adore the potential for Dam Deok/Sujini is because it makes me think, a little, of Aoshi/Misao. YES.

(No, I do not care if nobody else wants to talk about The Legend. I still do).

Oh My.

The Polo Game in episode 5 is my favorite drama scene ever, in any drama, Korean or otherwise. Bar None. I was screaming at my computer screen. Which was a bit embarassing.

MY GOD.

This is going into my Top 10 dramas because of ep 5 alone, even if the rest of the drama will suddenly begin to suck.

OMG OMG OMG.

Yes, I am obsessed with The Legend and am marathonning it. Am almost done with ep 4.

"If I fight well, will I be a good person?"

No, Dam Deok, you are never going to find this kind of certainty anywhere, much as you'd like it.

Awwwww.

Also, in ep 4 we finally have:

a. All the characters grown up and
b. The first meeting between Dam Deok and Sujini and ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, my OTP senses are not only tingling, that is arguably the cutest hero/heroine meeting ever. I loled so hard.

spoilers for ep 4 )

And it gets even better and more awesome from there.

Oh, I ship them like MAD.

Screencaps from eps 3 and 4 )

For those who just want to cut to the chase, Sujini and Dam Deok's first meeting )

Btw, this is my first Bae Yong Joon experience (except for watching 'Untold Scandal' (Korean take on Dangerous Liasons) years ago, I don't remember much of that) and I totally adore him. He is awfully charismatic, and fun. Plus, Legolas hair.

I am watching The Legend ep 2, and I can tell, it's going to become one of my favorite things ever.

Dark, and complicated, and heroic fantasy have always been my favorite.

Oh, and Sujini (the heroine) has been brought up from a baby by a bunch of warrior monks? I lurve her.

Actually, I like all the 'good' characters, so far: the tomboyish, tough Sujini. Her older sister, Kiha, who ended up with the evil Tiger clan. Sujini's quasi father (who is what, 20 years older than she?), Cheoro, the one 'embodying' the spirit of the dragon (OMG, his own father put that into his heart, yikes). And I like Dam Deok, who is not having the nicest life.

I love the incredible visuals, too, and the fast pace, and the complicated filming, and the sheer gorgeousness of it all.

Some samples )

Also, I was trolling soompi quotes thread, and someone quoted this OTP exchange from later on in The Legend, between Dam Deok and Sujini: she tells him he shouldn't be there, because he is the King and thus must be in the palace. And he tells her that 'wherever you are, is my palace.' Mmmmmmm. Gotta love a guy with anime hair and mad swordfighting skills who knows how to sweet-talk.

Also, seriously. They poured money into this thing by a funnel. I swear.

My Proposal Daisakusen dl is at 40% now. YAY!

But that is not what the post is about. It is about my poor impulse control. Oh no, oh no oh no.

I cannot possibly be starting another drama. My drama list is already psycho (way over ten, [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore :D) and that is only dramas that are completed.

My ‘currently airing’ dramas list is insane. The ones I am watching or planning to catch up shortly are: Witch Yoo Hee, Hello Miss, Thank You, Que Sera and The devil for kdramas (that is five, people. Five!). Summer x Summer, The Kid From Heaven, The Lucky Star and I plan to start Rock Paper Scissors and From Corner With Love (though with those two I’ll wait until they are completed so probably off my list). Plus KO1 which isn’t new but is progressively started subbing, so sort of is like new ;) And Yamapi’s Proposal Daisakusen starts today and Bambino in a couple of days. And I haven’t even gotten to KimuTaku’s ‘Great Tribe’ or finished Takki’s R&J. ARGGGGGHHHH. But it’s a happy argh.

I thinkfor my own sanity though, I am not starting any ‘completed’ new dramas until I finish some more off the list. Actually, I think I am going to finish them and then not start new completed ones for a bit as watching just the airing ones will keep me occupied ;)

But why the long wail up top? Because despite the hefty list above, I just added another airing jdrama to the list. Liar Game with Nishikado Soujiro Matsuda Shota and Toda Erica. It is all [livejournal.com profile] calledinvain’s fault. I was mildly interested but she posted some pictures which hooked me and I read up on the plot and I am dling it right now.

Yes, yes, I know. Psycho schedule and all that. But come on. It’s Matsuda Shota and he is the lead. YES. And he plays a con artist who Toda Erika hires to get her $$$ back.

You know how I love the icy guy-sparky girl stuff? Or mobster and a good woman? Another thing I love beyond all measure? Stories about swindlers/con-artists/pretenders/revenge-seekers who get caught by emotions themselves. I love Kurosagi entirely too much, with Yamapi as the vengeful swindler who cannot keep the so awesome Tsurara out of his life as hard as he tries (seriously. SEQUEL. With kissing this time). A Love to Kill is in the running as my fave kdrama, with Rain pretending in order to get close and avenge his brother on Shin Minah but falling for her instead. And I am currently loving Taiyou No Kisetsu with Takki having all these revenge plans on his ‘friends’ but also falling for a handicapped unworldly pianist at the same time.

No idea if the trope is going to happen here but hey, the hope is good.

Besides, plot? Who cares:

More swoony stuff )

And the resident what kind of fashion is THAT shot )

Anyhoo, more detailed synopsis:

Based on the manga series of the same name, Toda Erika plays an honest college student, Kanzaki Nao, who receives a hundred million dollars one day, along with a card saying she has been chosen to take part in the "Liar Game". The aim of the game is to trick the other players out of their hundred million dollars. At the end, the winner gets the hundred million and the loser is a hundred million dollars in debt. The next day, she receives notification that her opponent is her former teacher, Fujisawa Kazuo. She goes to him, seeking help, but ends up getting tricked into handing her money over. Desperate, she approaches the police for help, but they are unable to do anything. However, she is told of a mastermind swindler, Akiyama Shinichi (Matsuda Shota), who is to be released from jail the next day. Desperate, she goes to him for help.

Though wow. Some people on daddicts thread are ‘blah blah we hated Kurosagi. Whaaaaa?’ It’s one of the dramas I am irrational about. Logically I understand there are people who might not like it. But emotionally or whatever it just doesn’t compute. I can’t process it because I loved it much too much ;)

Oooh, and I am super excited. I just found out that both Love in the City 2 (with Kang Ta) and Legend of Condor Heroes (with Ariel Lin) will be subbed. EEEE! By BON Fansubs who are super good and efficient. (They are subbing WYH and will be shortly subbing Bambino) *bliss*

Btw, does anyone know whether kdrama Crazy for You is any good?

Look at the cute pic:

The plot sounds good: Suh Jin Young is an aviation maintenance technician and her husband passed away due to a traffic accident. Kim Chae Joon dreams to become an aviation pilot but he encounters an unfortunate accident. Chae Joon goes to prison for accidently killing a man in a car accident. The man happens to be Jin Young's husband. Jin Young and Chae Joon develop a love relationship.

There are subs in progress.
