Have just finished ep 16 of Three Kingdoms and simply must stop before my brain leaks out of my ears - everything is becoming an armored, bloody, double and triple-crossing mess in my head. I think I shall detox with some contemporary fluff.

One of the things I find so interesting about 3K is that none of the characters we met so far is what would conventionally be defined a "100% good person." Yes, if we use a sliding scale, someone like Liu Bei is better than someone like Cao Cao but neither one of them is getting any passing marks on goodness. (Same goes for my crush Lu Bu - he's my crush because I love him with his OTP and because he's played by Peter Ho, but to say he's politically untrustworthy is to put it mildly). It makes for a very dark and grim but incredibly entertaining story.

But before I do so, a few caps from eps 11-16 )

In conclusion, the passage of time in this drama confuses me. I get that a significant number of years has passed from first ep, but I'd love to know how many exactly.

No points for guessing they are shippy.

Seriously, how are they so perfectly what I want in OTPs?

Some really really awesome scenes, or why Lu Bu is the only character in this that is decent husband material )

I have guests all Sunday so no more Three Kingdoms for me until Monday which is probably just as well for my sleep patterns and sanity :)

Also, I am now thinking Summer Desire would have been a lot more entertaining if Peter Ho and Huang Xiaoming showed up as Lu Bu and Yang Guo instead of their SD roles and decided the shippy rivalrly by various fighting bouts to the (almost) death once per episode. And Barbie Hsu would actually be playing her Meteor Garden character and periodically kick both their asses when their battles would destroy her furniture too much. It would be the best drama ever.

ETA: Oh geez. I posted 7 times today. I sincerely apologize for spamming your flist.

Pretty self-explanatory - some scenes I really liked but about which I haven't posted before and related thoughts.

Enter at your own risk - 150+ pics behind the cut )

And now I really am going to bed...

Also, for everyone for whom a cdrama based on a dense 14th-century classic is their idea of hell, I do plan to catch up on newest episodes of New Tales of the Gisaeng this weekend. Shockingly, if I could pick only one airing kdrama to follow, it would be that one. Yes, even over Dream High. I don't deal well with shipper uncertainty.

I had all sorts of meta to talk about but then this Diaochan/Lu Bu scene happened in ep 8 and everything flew out of my head. You should have seen me, hiding in the bathroom at 5:30 am (so as not to wake up family), making animal noises at my screen and weird hand gestures and then sniffling like a lunatic with consumption.

Best romantic scene in the Universe. Accept no substitutes )

And then I turned off the ep and decided to take a little break. I know period cdramas - seeing how perfect and happy they are together, I just know something really awful is coming and I want to put it off a little longer. I am officially a wimp. Also, Baby Mousie is about to get up. Let's see how I cope on almost no sleep but plenty of fiction-induced adrenaline.

In news that are not about a period cdrama (and half the flist breathes a sign of relief), the upcoming kdrama I am most excited for is actually the cop drama Crime Squad. I feel like a cop show for some reason. Plus the cast, with Song Il Gook (Jumong), Lee Jong Hyuk (Chuno), Song Ji Hyo (Jumong), Sun Woo Sun (Christmas) and Kim Joon (BOF) makes me salivate in glee.

A few promo shots )

And a teaser which I also like:

Teaser here )

And because you can't get off entirely Three Kingdoms-free, I must interrupt my scheduled obsessing over Lu Bu/Diaochan and my fixation on Cao Cao, to mention my love for the Sun brothers - the sibling love really gets me, every time. Here they are in the aftermath of their father's death:

Minister: Diaochan, please please please save the Han empire! I will kneel here until you say you will.
Diaochan: WTF? Daddy, OK, anything, please get up. But how on earth can I do that? Last time I looked, I didn't have 100,000 troops hidden behind my skirts.
Minister: I know it will be hard, but please please please please try falling for Lu Bu. I know you probably never saw any men outside your family before, let alone gorgeous and famous generals who saved your life, so I can see this will be a hard task. But please try for me.
Diaochan: *does a dance of joy* Fine, I will martyr myself. Can I seduce him, too? Just in case?

OK, I paraphrase, but seriously, I started laughing like a maniac when the Minister was begging Diaochan to save the Empire by falling for her hot and devoted life-savior who she's totally into. Oh, the hardship! It's like if someone told me to help our economy by devouring vast quantities of ice-cream and cake. Where do I sign up to be the heroine of the nation?

Though his ominous "Daddy will tell you later" when she asks him how on earth this could help is worrying me. Does he plan to lure Lu Bu into his house and slit his throat or something? That doesn't sound too productive because best warrior or not, Old Warlord has got a huge and capable army even without his adopted son. Maybe he hopes Lu Bu will do whatever his girl says and join the rebels for love? Like the Lysistrata plan of "if you love me, you'll join the rebels or no sex for you." Or something. Puzzled.

I probably won't be able to get to any more eps today so I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

Meanwhile, have the scene where he rescues her in the middle of battle when her carriage almost careens off a cliff. Or actually the aftermath, as I couldn't cap the rescue itself - it was too fast. Somebody (naming no names) has just rewatched it three times.

Who needs life insurance when you got psycho Legolas looking out for you? )

So, let me get this straight - if some upper-class warrior rides up to the enemy stronghold and challenges them, you can't just shoot him from the walls or send a mob of 100 people to cut him down. In fact, even if you send someone down for single combat, they are supposed to be of proper rank (whether earned or born with). OK, so far so good, if not too pragmatic. But it's OK to have three people to come down to fight him at once? I am officially confused. Liu Bei et al are supposed to be all about honor, so presumably this 3-1 thing is considered fine. So why not 100 people or archers? What's the per-person limit? Is 5 OK but 10 too many? So confused. This said, the 'Lu Bu v. Liu Bei, Guan Yu and third guy who annoys me so I don't remember his name' battle was full of awesomeness - I held my breath the whole time. I can't cap it though - they moved too fast.

But this little scene made me LOL and LOL.

Guys, you have a freaking army, you could at least try to defeat one guy )

OK, I will come out in the open and admit it - psycho Legolas, I am a total goner for you. I mean, who wouldn't love a guy whose idea of a father's day present is this:

And speaking of Mr. Evil Warlord himself, I really wish he'd come up with other topics of conversation. He's very creative with his bloodthirstiness planning but a little variety of subjects would make him a better companion, I am sure. Maybe he could take up gardening.

In case you are wondering, every single other drama I am watching has been put on hold until I run out of subs for this. I am watching only one drama. Yes, miracles do happen.
