I.

I have watched ep 23 of Boys Over Flowers. It had break-ups and break-downs, but honestly, I am tired of the main OTP mess. Let's instead talk about the adorableness of Yi Jung/Ga Eul.

Screencaps of glee )

2. I didn't post about it, but a few weeks I watched Antique Bakery movie and it was very delightful. Mmmm.

3. I am rewatching Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, one of my favorite Bollywood movies which deals with a touchy subject of infidelity - I love its flawed protagonists. Here is a MV I found, mainly because I like this Polish song.

Subs are out for eps 5 and 6 of KOTW.

But more importantly, I saw these screencaps from ep 7.

OMG.

I have no idea what is going on except for the fact that the makers of The Kingdom of the Winds seem to know what to do to exactly cater to me. Again.

I have never seen a kdrama so good about its hurt/comfort (a lot of kdramas have plenty of hurt but forget the essential second part of the equation). This just might beat Time Between Dog and Wolf in that respect.

A little tease:

Much more sheer awesomeness inside )

In other news, the trailer for Antique Bakery is out, and oh my.

All the people on my flist who love slash/boylove/yaoi/whathaveyou, methinks you are in for a treat :)

Mmmm...Korea. Pleasing every fangirl, are you?

Things that make me happy:

1. Daemul isn’t scrapped. The air date has been pushed to October, which I can deal with. Hopefully they will iron things out by then.

2. The fangirls in the JJH thread on soompi. They are discussing possible kissing scenes in Antique and are torn between horror (oh noez! Their oppa might be kissing another guy!) and delight (at least it’s not one of those icky girls). Heeee. I really wish this was a drama and not a movie, but oh well, beggars can’t be chosers. Still, 16 episodes of JJH reliving cake-related childhood abduction trauma and dealing with advances of the hot Waffle Sunki, whose sexy gay love he rejected in high-school, would have been pretty awesome.

3. Yup, Winter Sonata is definitely being made into an anime.

Heee.

4. Powerful Opponents has certainly become the drama of the spring for me. Who would have thought…I wasn’t very familiar with/attached to any of the leads before it started. Especially amusing is that I mainly checked it out to see Lady Bodyguard and President’s Son hook up but ended up the hugest bodyguards!shipper. Heeeee. Oh, Gwan Pil :)

5. Even though I want Gwan Pil/Young Joo with a scary level of fangirling, I do like Su Ho as a character, and adore Lee Jin Wook, who plays him. I just don’t want him with Young Joo. So imagine my delight when I found he was in a drama where he did get the girl, last year’s Someday. The plot sounds delightful. Our Heroine is a reserved manga artist, who doesn’t really believe in romantic love much. She comes to Korea and meets Secondary Guy, a manga fanboy who is smitten and decides he is in love at first sight, not even noticing the cool Secondary Girl who has loved him for years. Secondary Guy hires our Hero, Lee Jin Wook, a private investigator with a tragic past, to follow his dream girl. And it goes from there… Happy endings for everyone abound, so what’s not to love. I don’t think fansubbers ever did this drama, but a DVD with subs is available from YA. I mean, look at the cute MV!

5. PO is winding up next week. But luckily, I have a new drama fixation to take its place…Iljimae. And speaking of, ep two subs are out! I have only watched the first half of first ep and I like it a LOT. I don’t love it as much as Hong Gil Dong, but it’s early days yet, and in any event, HGD pinged my fiction loves uniquely. Oddly, I can also see why it’s getting better ratings: it’s a lot more traditional in its approach than HGD.

So yes, Iljimae. I am sure my like will transform to LOVE as soon as poor little Iljimae will lose his privileged existence and his family at the age of eight (???), grow up to be Lee Jun Ki and begin his awful yet photogenic torment and suffering. Also, any clue which of the two girls is his OTP? I don’t mind either way. One way we get so beloved by me trope of aristocrat-slave (though would Iljimae be considered a slave? I mean, he was born upper class. But then Ha Ji Won lost all her aristocratic status when her family was executed in Damo, and became a slave…so.) Plus, that would mean he falls for the girl whose Dad killed his family, thus giving me shades of Time Between Dog and Wolf. However, if we don’t get that, I don’t mind a bit.It would also be fun if he hooked up with thieving peasant girl, sort of like Legend. I already got aristocrat/slaveOTP with Hong Gil Dong and Damo and it was all so perfect, plus I can have my fill of angsty avenger/gently brought lady otp angst with Strongest Chil Woo which is coming out later this summer. Also, this way I can have a ‘I am in love with my not!sibling’ OTP of aristocrat girl and Iljimae’s nemesis, which would also make me happy.

I bring you Antique, ladies and gentlemen.

Yes, this is Joo Ji Hoon and Kim Jae Wook as the arguably prettiest yaoi thing ever.

askdjfjgkfjkdjsjdjdjl.

I mean...Prince Shin and Waffle Sunki? Together? askgjgkfk.

Does anyone really wonder why I love Korean entertainment?

Also, I said earlier, JJH really is desperate to get away from the Shin image, isn't he? First a killer lawyer, now a potentially gay baker? I am rather excited to see what on earth he will do next :P

I.

Now, I know Korea was making a movie version of Antique Bakery, which is, I was vaguely aware, a Japanese manga turned into a jdrama some years back.

And I knew Joo Ji Hoon was going to be in it, which was basically the one thing that had me even mildly interested (guys running a bakery shop? Normally a recipe for zzzzzz for me).

BUT. BUT. BUT.

I went browsing around a little and discovered the following things which all of a sudden make me more more amused/curious:

In addition to Joo Ji Hoon (YUM), the movie is also going to star Kim Jae Wook (a.k.a. Waffle Sunki from Coffee Prince, who seems to be unable to get away from baked goods). Another YUM!

But still, even two hot guys aren't really enough to get me interested into men who love pastries. So how about that? Apparently Antique Bakery is a shounen-ai manga. Yup. Heh. Now they got my attention. Mind boggles seeing this in the Korean context. I wonder how they are going to tap-dance around it, or whether they will *gasp* deal with it.

LOL.

II.

Anyone here watched the twdrama Queens? I am mildly curious, but talk about gender-bending. The hero is a very girly guy who cross-dressed to impress his best female friend who he crushes on. However, the girl is not interested in him but likes a fickle jock. This jock? Falls in love with hero assuming he is a girl. Also, hero decides to be more manly as that is what his crush seems to like and hires 'manly' manga author to teach him how to be that way. Only that author is a very very butch (but straight) girl. Who rooms with her best friend, a post-op transsexual (female to male).

One word: whaaaaaaaaa?

First off, a few questions about some of the lesser known dramas out there. First off, Takki’s Antique. Yay or nay? Any good?

Second, I don’t think anyone on my flist except [livejournal.com profile] tatterpunk has seen the jdrama Brand, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Happy ending or not?

Third, I got my DVDs of Say You Love Me kdrama in. I got it mainly because I have KRW fever, but also its ‘Dangerous Liasons’ type storyline appeals to me. Basically, Evil Woman (EW) is a successful but ruthless producer who doesn’t really feel. Her bf, Evil Guy (EG) is totally her lapdog. Into their lives enter our OTP, played by KRW and New Lady (NL). They are young and sweet and in love and they’ve known each other since childhood and they are horribly pure. So EW can’t bear the purity/goodness stuff, so she gets EG to try to take NL away from KRW and to seduce KRW herself. And she succeeds! At one point she apparently backs poor KRW into a corner and traps him and forces herself on him…heh. Poor guy. His first time too ;P Angst and angst and angst follows as his NL is clearly not happy and leaves him for good. But never fear, I peeked. Happy ending ;) Anyway, I am a sick girl, but I am too lazy to ff and I won’t get to the drama itself properly for a while. Any idea which ep the scene of KRW and EW happens? Please :P

I am really enjoying Love Story in Harvard. Interestingly, the development of the love story itself seems very realistic. They go on dates (some good some not) and talk and hang out and slowly get to know each other and fall for each other. Yay. And I loved the football scene SO MUCH. So playful and awesome and so perfect that Hyon-Woo finds out why Soo-In missed their earlier date (he was incredibly mad about it and told her so) and she did have a good reason, and he feels so sorry and he finally finds her and I love how he doesn’t apologize (because to do so would imply that he knows something she doesn’t want him to, even if he did learn it by accident, and also bring back bad memories for her) but is just sweet and adorable to her instead, teaching her how to throw a football, and she is puzzled but delighted and soon he actually makes her laugh. LOVE.

Btw, Kim Tae Hee, the female lead in this one, is Lee Wan’s sister in RL. How odd is that. I like her but the problem is I absolutely adore KRW in this one, so I am always puzzled that she doesn’t just swoon into his arms ;)

Also, unrelated I just found out that there will be a movie version of the Hwan Jini story coming out (with the same title). Hang Jini is apparently a legendary courtesan and so it will be a period movie. EEEE! Song Hye Kyo (female lead in Full House, I love her) is playing Jini. GUUUUUH. There is supposedly a bed scene with SHK (no idea who the partner is) *shocking :D* and it’s a period movie which is general awesomeness, so yeah. I am there ;)
