Now that I've pared down my currently-airing list so drastically (am down to three dramas one of which I ff (Oh My Lady). I decided that I will enjoy twitter drama more if I watch it all in one gulp), there is some space on my viewing schedule. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alexandral's awesome picspam, that space is going to be occupied by the revenge/action drama A Man Called God which stars Song Il Gook and Han Chae Young as an underground boss with his mind on revenge for destruction of his family and a plucky and trouble-prone investigative journalist respectively.

Have a nifty shippy MV:

This may be regressive of me, but I adore the whole 'guy rescues girl from physical danger' trope so very very much and it looks to be plenty present here. Plus, I adore SIG even if he starved himself for this role (I have NO idea why) or if he has a hairstyle from hell and I really really like Han Chae Young and the rest of the cast. When you add in the fact that revenge kdramas are my favorite kdrama genre...here you have it.

I was waiting for a lot of subs to be completed and I seem to be in luck. I plan to catch up on AMCG this week :P

Darnit.

I wasn't going to watch more of A Man Called God due to Song Il Gook looking starved and with horrific hair but then they throw this at me:

(in ep 6)

Don't do this to me, drama!

But then apparently he takes care of her all night!

Oh no.

Brb, dling.

Help me, someone!

I tried, I tried so hard with A Man Called God. Normally I'd run like the plague from this after the promos, but I adore Song Il Gook beyond measure.

WELL.

I can deal with the shounen manga-induced cheesiness. But I cannot watch Song Il Gook - his face is cavernous - I get images of famine victims when I see his sunken cheeks, skin stretched over bones of the face. He looks starving, unhealthy, awful.

Yes, the hair has escaped from the 1980s, the short pants and purple socks are horrible. But whatever. It's not the first or last time dramas have awful fashions and hair. But it's the face, the face that kills me.

Why?

He looked fine and healthy and fit and hot before. I have never seen a single comment criticizing his looks in Jumong, Lobbyist, or Kingdom of the Winds. Why on earth did they make him lose so much weight so now he looks like a skeleton that still moves? He is playing a mob boss, not a victim of starvation. It doesn't look good, it doesn't look acceptable, it doesn't look anything but horrific.

And why on earth did he agree to their insanity? He isn't some young wannabe just starting out, desperate for any break and willing to do anything to get it? He's an A-list star in his mid-30s with clout and one of the biggest drama hits ever to his name.

Whyyyyyy?

All I know is they lost this viewer. I have tried watching everything SIG was in, but I cannot do this one.

I hope this drama gets good rating so at least he wouldn't have starved himself for nothing, but I am out.

Found this 6 minute preview of A Man Called God.

While I am still appalled at TPTB making Song Il Gook lose weight (he looks gaunt - it's horrible!), this looks like I will adore every last bit, even if not necessarily for the reasons the makers intended: he fights with arbalets, and guns, and swords! He hugs orphans and rescues beautiful ladies and kills underlings with one look. He drives fancy cars, wears bright blue jackets, and has Regency hair. Welcome to El Mafioso Supremo. Or something.

Oooooh boy.

Phew, this is Song Il Gook with his clothes on for A Man Called God (more like "A Man Called Anatomical Model"):

So much better (though the hair! the fur trim!). This is a first for me but please please PLEASE keep your clothes on for the duration of the drama. SIG. No drama shower scene, no sweaty work-out, no lovemaking.

And please please please make your wife take you to an all-you-can eat buffet for a week after the shoot is over.

For those who do not know, AMCG is an upcoming kdrama starring SIG and Han Chae Young. It's about a man who wants revenge on his family's killer and so joins a mob organization and rises through the ranks to achieve power enough to obtain it. However, this Mob Boss' determination begins to soften a little when he meets a dedicated (and super-hot) reporter played by HCY. I expect suits and a pile of bodies. It's based on a very famous manga. It sounds like a Crying Freeman/Haou Airen mix (minus the latter's rapiness, thankfully).

In other news, it looks like Pick the Stars may be preempted for the Olympic yet again next week. *cosmic wail* NOOOOOOOO! I don't care about the Olympics, I want more of Pal Kang, Kang Ha, and the brood. I want to know what Pal Kang will say to Kang Ha's proposal, what the kids will be up to, what new devilry Kang Ha's mom and Jae Young would be up to, etc etc.

Oh, Song Il Gook, what have you done to yourself?

(I refuse to post the pics in my LJ). Yes, yes, yes, it's for a drama, but it makes you look like some sort of a creepy serial killer vamp. I think I hate A Man Called God on principle now. WTF! I was pissed as hell when I read that they made him lose weight (from where? He's slim as all get-out anyway!) but by the look of it they also made him hit the gym 20 hours every day - that's a HORRIFYING combination.

Seriously.

What the FUCK.
