I really wanted to smack Hyun Soo here, for being such a dick to Woo Kyung. I mean, it wasn't WK who called them for help but WK's silly friend and, in any event, would he prefer she got beaten to a pulp or something? Also, nobody is allowed to make darling Do Il inhappy (awwwww, his face when WK said she will obey the rules and not come round). I mean, I can see why he's mad, but it's misdirected and he needs to chill out in general. Ulcers, which is what you'll get from being angry all the time, are not sexy. (Side note - honestly, only a bunch of teenage boys would be this unobservant. Do Il might as well hang a giant neon sign from his neck saying "I like Woo Kyung").

Bwahaahahahaha perfect, I ship this so hard! I love that he tries to throw his temper at her and she's completely unfazed. He does the whole "are you interested in me?" to try to get her embarrassed and she calmly answers yes. Ahahahahahaahhaha he has to pause at that. And then he tries a second attack and asks her 'do you know me?' to which she calmly responds that she doesn't, and that is why she's interested. Bwahahaha. So he tries his last line of attack and tells her he isn't interested in her, and she just as calmly replies that she knows that. And angry puppy cannot help but grin, being so soundly defeated. Heeeee. Anyone who can get a grin out of angry puppy, especially on one of his bad days, is pretty much impressive. And he is never going to find someone else who is as cool and talented and pretty and interested in him, but also completely collected, low maintenance, calm and unimpressed. Most girls would either be terrified or swooning or high-drama due to his temper and Yerim not only holds her own, she totally wins every encounter. Give up, angry puppy! It's pretty clear he likes her though he won't admit it for any money (also, lol at his startled and disappointed look around when she did leave).

Angry puppy's adorable and non-angry baby sis (who is pretty much the only person he's not ever grumpy at) is in the hospital. Why? I see my plot senses tingling. Hmmm.

And now off to bed for me!

Sigh. These boys - they'll prove the death of me yet.

Hyun Soo REALLY needs some anger management or he'll blow up spectacularly one of these days. Probably on something JH does... or doesn't do, if we go by the trajectory so far.

Yeah, something is amiss with HS's sister. Remember, he had to piggyback her to hospital before the rock festival too, thus making him late. Has to be one reason he's so anxious to succeed and make money.

Looking forward to your add-on post for ep 10.

The thing with JH and HS is that neither one is necessarily wrong, it's just very opposite paths and they need to fully consider the implications. I get the feeling that JH would be perfectly happy to leave after the single is out and spend his life working some random but honest job and playing with his friends in the basement. And that's fine. There is nothing wrong with that as a path, but he has to realize whether that is what he wants now that he has an opportunity or if he'd rather make it a career. I don't think he's thought it through and made an affirmative choice and he should.

As regards Hyun Soo, sure, he can become very successful if he continues on his path, if he ditches his less-than-enthusiastic about the biz friends. Heck, he could probably make it as an idol. And there is nothing wrong with being ambitious. But it's one thing to make that affirmative choice and another to just continue down the path without realizing where it could lead. He needs to slow down and think. And also decide whether fame and money are worth the inevitable break with his friends and giving up the spirit of the band. He may well decide it is. I don't but I am not the one with a poor family and a sick kid sister. But he needs to think before he commits. (I bring my own biases because unlike 100% of target audience, idols and idol system freaks me the heck out. I think musicians or singers should get together because they love performing, not because it's a good career path and they have talent that way and then be trained like monkeys).

I think there is a happy medium between utter unmarketable freedom the boys had (and if boss lady thinks it's hard to corral them now, she would have tasted true nightmare if BH was still around) and the utter manufacture factory that boss lady stuck them in. I mean, they are NOT idols. And admittedly, my knowledge of k-rock is limited to the amazing Boohwal, but I severely doubt its members are proponents of wholesome living and idol training. (I mean, even going by the likely very sanitized take in Rock Rock Rock).

OMG. The sheer thought of Hye Ri trying to wrangle Eye Candy led by Byung Hee. Whoo hoo!! It's sort of too bad that we didn't get to see that alternate universe.

BTW, I love it when you're so thoughtful. :)

Thank you :)

This would have been hilarious. There is no question Byung Hee would have made it as a star though. His sheer charisma seemed to bend reality around him.

Yeah, that's more or less my take on this as well. They all went into it sorta half cocked and with no real idea what they were actually doing. I'm sure even HS didn't at first think beyond getting the song released. The others certainly didn't. Now that they are facing relative success they do have to come to a decision about what next.

There's also the thing that Eye Cancy was BH's baby to begin with. He was the primus motor whom everyone else followed. JH may have been the wing man but he wasn't the one who came up with all these ideas. I get that everyone probably had some say but they were mostly just happy to go where BH lead. I get the feeling that JH isn't all that comfortable in being the sort of leader they seem to need now. He's still on the fence but he'll have to decide soon and what I read on the written preview, something comes up that will force him to face up to the fact.

Oh god, the idol system freaks me out too. You are practically signing your life over to some company. It sort of feels like legalised slavery... Well, not every ent. company is the same of course and there are those do give their artist more room to manoveur.

I agree, they are not idols and should not be forced into that sort of mold. Bands as a whole are not mainstream in k-ent. CN Blue is a sort of an example of a successfull idol/rock band amalgamation but they are about the only one and even they have to confirm to a certain formula when promoting in Korea. Their Japanese carreer is far more 'rock' as Japan has a thriving band culture. I'd actually like to see what would happen if they went that way in Korea but not sure if it'd work or if FNC Ent. would take the risk.

I agree - without BH they really are lost because none of them were as obsessed and driven as BH was, with all his oddness. It probably wouldn't be as prominent without them actually being presented with possibilities to choose from, but there it is.

Ji Hyuk - I love the boy to death, but he's not equipped (yet) to deal with navigating showbiz. He's too straightforward, too tied into his notion of band=family, to see beyond. Which is fine if he makes affirmative choice that all he wants is a garage band.

Re: idol system. I still remember details from the JYJ lawsuit against their company and they were appalling. Ugh.

I much prefer rock to pop so Korean tastes are pretty unfathomable to me :)

I really thought that the whole "hot encounter between angry puppy and awesome singer" was actually a dream! Like, he was just wishing it would happen (and I suspect that when he smiled in his sleep it was because of her).

I NEED MORE OF THIS COUPLE!

I love all their interactions and they have so much chemistry. The little bits we are given just make me salivate for more.

Another reason I think Hyun Soo will turn his back on the band is because in the beginning when everyone was happy to go play in the street after being turned away from Hyun Soo's parents workplace, only Hyun Soo was upset. everyone else was like Viva La Boheme! you know? I think this guy always wanted success more than the rest of them. and he's willing to give up and change all kinds of shit to get there. its kind of scary imo. but i dont doubt that this drive is partially related to his parents and sister.

I think a large part of why HS was unhappy back then was seeing his parents humiliated and seen as nonenities by that gangster. His stressors are very different from those that as-good-as-orphaned Do Il and Ji Hyuk have, or even Ha Jin and Kyung Jong (whose families seem very far from showbiz).

I mean, as a viewer, I am all "yay, bromance and true love of music!" but I am not a teenage boy who sees this as a way out of a dead-end life that, in best case, would be like his parents' and probably nowhere near as good. Nor do I have a sick sister (and from what I can tell, Korea has no health insurance, it's $$$ on the barrel, so I can see how earning money so you won't have to scrimp to pay bills, is tempting).

What he is doing isn't praiseworthy but I can understand it. What I find creepy is SH pouncing on it to exploit it (and being smart enough to not start right away because he knows HS would reject him).
