I really really liked Rooftop Prince but I am beyond obsessed with King 2 Hearts. I threw an off-handed comment before it aired that it seems like someone threw Goong and IRIS into a blender but that turned out to be prophetic. And somehow, incredibly, it works! Take two dramas I adore, but who couldn't be more different, and turn them into a functional whole? YES PLEASE!

The portrayal of the North is not particularly realistic but since this is AU, I am willing to accept that in this alternate Universe, this is how North Korea is.

I adore all the characters I am supposed to and am already unhealthily invested in their well-being. I even liked the kid versions of the characters, which I almost never do.

Also, this is waaaaay darker than I expected (the teasers hinted but I wasn't sure), with interesting and complicated underpinnings to it all. And I love!!!

I need to inhale and marathon all of this asap. Curses for waiting!

Oh, and Ha Ji Won, kicking the entire North and South Korean armies in the face without breaking a sweat? So beyond badass and scary and pretty much worth the price of admission right there. Also, when did LSG go from puppy to sexy? Because UNF!

For ep 2 of Rooftop Prince:

Looks adorable! (Also, is modern!Yoochun not dead? Yay!)

For K2H (with ending of ep 1):

All of a sudden I feel like rewatching Secret Garden, one of my all time faves.

After watching the first ep, I can see why Jo In Sung was rumored for the male lead at first - Jae Ha has the combo of a certain deliberate immaturity* mixed with a serious dark streak that would be very much up his alley. But despite being a JIS fangirl who was getting palpitations at the thought of him and Ha Ji Won costarring again, I am really loving Lee Seung Gi in the role. Not that he was bad in either Brilliant Legacy or Gumiho, far from it, but he's been getting better and better with every drama, and he is holding his own opposite Ha Ji Won and their chemistry is angry-combustible-hot. All I can think of is angry sex against the wall (after end of ep 1, one where she is the one slamming him against the wall and not the other way around :P)

* Normally, I hate immaturity in my protagonists, but I am not bothered by it here because it's not 'real' immaturity but more like a studied reaction to his surroundings and the whole 'ornamental royal' thing, a deliberate reaction as a lashing out/coping mechanism. Also, thank God, he's no dummy.

Ha Ji Won is, as always, brilliant - tough (and believable as a tough woman who could end everyone else in the story with a pinkie) yet still traditionally feminine in being interested in a potential for dating and liking stars (her fangirling Jo In Sung and Hyun Bin made me die laughing). But what she is, above all, is real. She always comes across as hyper-real on-screen to me and I always end up loving her and wanting what she wants.

The rest of the cast hasn't been getting as much time (duh) but I especially loved Jo Jung Seok (who stole my heart in What's Up in a very different role). I cannot wait to see how his story is going to develop.

Actually, Spoiler for something that's in character descriptions but hasn't happened yet )

Every time Yoochun addresses Han Ji Min as "You Evil Thing" and treats her like some sort of a powerful demon while acting in haugty royal fashion, while she looks at him as if he is a lunatic and is utterly unimpressed, I die inside. From laughter and joy.

Also, modern world shock is hilarious.

And I realized why he doesn't recognize HJM - he only saw her past self with a veil so he has no idea what her face looks like!

Marry me, drama!!!

Ep 1 was nice. Ep 2 is brilliant.

Holy Frell! I am barely 10 minutes into the second ep of K2H and I am getting shivers.

This is so good! And terrifying as hell whenever the antagonist is on (even if his name is John Mayer, LOL).

Wow.

It's like some adaptation of a good, grown-up manga with darkness and off-kilter humor in equal measure and both working perfectly.

Oh, and the direction rocks.

I don't even care if it all goes to hell in the second half. I will always love it for making this week so much better.

ETA: 13 minutes in and OMG wtf just happened with the shooters? And Han Ah taking them on bare-handed? And this was some sort of training? WTF hardcore. OMFG, I love you, drama!

Mmmm, pretty much my ideal fictional dude. He pretty much bleeds duty and is some sort of super-soldier. And clearly has some issues. And is played by Jo Jung Suk who I pretty much adore.

And they let him sing in ep 2! Don't they know what it does to my ovaries? He's got the most gorgeous singing voice! (I believe this is only his second on-screen role after What's Up, he's mainly a musical theater actor).

Yeah, when they were singing around the fire, I was getting antsy wanting him to sing and they obliged :P

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I can't wait until his romance with the Princess will start. MMMMMM.

And because I am on the topic, here is JJS singing one of my favorite songs (a Korean version of same) in What's Up (a drama I must finish - I adored it and was hoarding for when I could binge and revel in emotional intensity).
